Pitchers Early Slate Look, here's the thing: Kluber, Archer, Liriano and King Felix are going on this early slate. One or more of them is going to have a great game because they are, in fact, great. The problem is that their prices are off the map and none of them have particularly good matchups. It's dicey to consider fading all four. But remember they are all facing above average teams in those splits and a lot can go wrong at these prices. The upside on each is limited. This is a long way to say, you should always consider these guys, but I have my reservations. Jon Lester - FD 9500 DK 9100 Victiv Yahoo 54 Opponent- Col (Butler) R Park- @Chc The Rockies no longer have Troy Tulowitzki. From an expert's opinion (some guy I talked to, not me) this makes them worse. Not to say one player is the crux of an entire team, but when one of the best hitters against lefties in all of the majors gets shipped off, you need to downgrade the whole squad. That's what I'm looking at for Lester here. The Rockies were already one of the worst teams in the league this season against lefty pitchers, striking out more than 23% of the time and ranking in the bottom third in terms of team wOBA. Lester, while not an ace, has solid peripherals with a low 3's xFIP. Great price and should be in line for the win. Of all the big money guys, I think you can take a shot on Felix Hernandez because of the park and the D-Backs are the worst among the bunch against righties. Late Slate Tyson Ross - FD 8500 DK 10800 Victiv Yahoo 47 Opponent- NYM (Colon) R Park- @NYM The good news on Ross is the K rate ranks among the best in the league. He's striking out almost ten batters per nine and rocks a 3.05 xFIP. And this is with a walk rate more than 4 per nine. You don't often see numbers like that, meaning when he's not walking batters there's very little opposing batters can do against him. The Mets are...

Daily Fantasy MLB Baseball Picks for FanDuel, DraftKings, Yahoo and Victiv 7/28/15 Full Tuesday slate going here with a bunch of solid pitchers hitting the mound. Should make for an interesting day. Hat tip to newest contributor Justin Koenig for throwing in the second half of these picks. Pumped to have him aboard. *Editor's note: At the time of this post, the Rockies' and Yankees' pitchers hadn't been announced. Pitchers Noah Syndergaard - FD 8800 DK 10700 Victiv Yahoo 49 Opponent- SD (Shields) R Park- @Nym It's an interesting day for pitching. There are some solid, second level pitchers going that have me wanting to fade the top tier like Jose Fernandez and David Price. That's always a dicey proposition because obviously those guys are aces. But they are cost-prohibitive and don't have the best matchups. Which leaves a guy like Syndergaard. His win expectation is a little lower having to face Shields (below) but almost everything else is working in his favor. The Padres are a righty-heavy lineup that ranks second to last in the league against right-handed pitching this season in team wOBA. They also strike out 22% of the time in this platoon. Thor's been a stud this season striking out more than a batter an inning, keeping the walks to a minimum and rocking a low 3's xFIP. Love the ballpark as well with Citi Field depressing power all around. This is a good spot to save some bucks. James Shields - FD 9300 DK 9100 Victiv Yahoo 50 Opponent- NYM (Syndergaard) r Park- @NYM Coming out of the opposite dugout is Shields. This is interesting because you can almost play these guys depending on site, going with whoever is cheaper. Noah costs a little less on FD while Shields is cheaper on DK. That's a nice, natural hedge if you play on multiple sites. Sheilds has dialed up the K's this season, but some walks have come with it. The xFIP sits in the low 3's and the Mets, like the Pads, are well below average against righties. This will be a fun pitching matchup to watch. Jordan Zimmermann - FD 8600 DK 7700 Victiv Yahoo 47 Opponent- Mia (Fernandez) R Park- @Mia Much like the two guys above, he gets hurt some because the win expectation sinks with Jose Fernandez on the mound for the Marlins. But everything else is also...

Pitchers Anibal Sanchez - FD 8700 DK 10200 Victiv Yahoo Opponent- TB (Karns) R Park- @TB While it'll be tempting to take Lance Lynn today for more money, it makes me a little concerned that the Reds have been an above average team against righties this season and have one of the lowest strikeout rates in that platoon at only 18%. For slightly less money you are getting a slightly worse pitcher in a much better matchup with Anibal. It's close, believe me and I don't think he's a significantly better play than Lynn. But the Rays are the second worst team in baseball against righties this season, the park allows almost no power and Sanchez's peripherals are fine enough considering the prices (though he's getting up there on DK). The matchup and ballpark swing the tide here for me. Lance Lynn - FD 9500 DK 11100 Victiv Yahoo 54 Opponent- Cin (Iglesias) R Park- @Stl Remember how I was talking about Lynn a second ago? I still think he's in contention today simply because he's by far the biggest strikeout guy on the slate and even in a bad matchup should be on your radar. I just don't think he's leaps and bounds (from a points per dollar standpoint) better than some of the other guys going. That being said, his strikeout rate is more than a batter an inning and he's putting up an xFIP in the low 3's this season. Basically, he's putting it together thanks to developing much more trust in the fastball; throwing it more than at any other point in his career. Again, warning: this isn't the best matchup, but he's the best overall arm on the slate. Kyle Lohse - FD 5200 DK 4900 Victiv Yahoo 37 Opponent- SF (Heston) R Park- @SF This is mostly a DK value, tournament play. Lohse has been crazy unlucky with his strand rate this year and is coming about as low as you'll ever see a pitcher on DraftKings. The Giants are a good hitting team, but the ballpark helps Lohse some by knocking down power and his xFIP is more than two runs lower than the mid 6's ERA. He's not safe by any means, but you can turn out some value here and really load up on bats with his salary. Consider Chris Heston By the way - we were reached...

Daily Fantasy MLB Baseball Picks for FanDuel, DraftKings, Yahoo and Victiv 7/23/15 Got a a double mini slate going tomorrow with a ton of good arms taking the bump. That makes for an interesting set of picks as so many batters stand to get mowed down. Let's take a look at a nice little Wednesday. Hat tip to Justin Koenig who helped out with the picks tonight. There are eight pitchers going and none of them are scrubs. There are also eight decent or above offenses going. That makes the early slate extremely difficult on both ends of the graph. I am going straight system picks with no frills for this slate. Pitchers Early Slate There are some good pitchers going on this slate and I don't want to start any of them. So that's cool. Masahiro Tanaka - FD 9800 DK 10100 Victiv Yahoo 47 Opponent- Bal (Jimenez) R Park- @NYY Going Tanaka over Price here is one simply made about Price. I think David has a good matchup and is a premium arm. But you are paying such a number for his services with the ability to get quality innings from Tanaka at a substantial discount. Tanaka's peripherals are great this season with a 4.5:1 K:BB rate to go with a 2.98 xFIP. He gets himself in trouble with elevated pitch counts that keep him from going late in games. That's his one downside. He has a tough matchup in a good hitter's park. But no pitching situation is looking good today. I'll take the discount on Tanaka against the O's and majorly sweat it. Consider Garrett Richards Late Slate Tyson Ross - FD 8500 DK 9100 Victiv Yahoo 48 Opponent- Mia (Koehler) R Park- @Sd Tyson Ross draws a solid matchup tonight against a Miami Marlins team that ranks in the bottom third of the league in wOBA and strikes out just over 20% of the time. Combine that with an impressive 9.54 K/9 and Ross becomes a play with tremendous upside. His biggest problem this year has been control issues, but luckily tonight he is facing an impatient Marlins team that draws walks in only 6.3% of plate appearances (26th in the league). The Marlins have been abysmal on the road this year, which gives Ross a good chance of getting the win. He is a great bargain play if you want to avoid paying up for...

The good news is you'll have plenty to spend on some of the big bats going on this slate. The bad news is DFS sites are still insisting you roster a pitcher. Mike Bolsinger - FD 6100 DK 7200 Victiv Yahoo 36 Opponent- Atl (Teheran) R Park- @Atl The good news on Bolsinger is his peripherals look pretty decent this season, putting up close to a 3:1 K:BB rate to go with a low threes xFIP. That's the good part. The bad part is dude must be making dinner plans early on nights of his starts because he never goes deep into games. On a slate like this one, we'll have to hope he isn't much of an early hit-the-town guy and can last against the Braves who are a middling offense at best. They don't strike out a ton, but also exhibit very little pop. Bolsinger is basically free as far as pitchers go. Matt Cain - FD 7300 DK 7900 Victiv Yahoo 42 Opponent- SD (Shields) R Park- @SD Bear with me here as he isn't someone I would normall recommend. But this slate's pitching isn't normal. It's tough to pay up for James Shields against the Giants. And Jordan Zimmermann doesn't strike out enough batters for his price (though I wouldn't fault you against the Mets). Cain's run a little bad since coming back from the DL especially in the LOB% and HR/FB. His xFIP is in the high 3's, much lower than the ERA. And he's facing a Padres team ranked 27th in wOBA against righties. They strike out 22% of the time and Petco decreases power in all directions. I think, on such a dicey pitching slate, that Cain makes for a decent enough plug and play. Phew, I got through it. Late Slate Jose Fernandez - FD 10300 DK 10000 Victiv Yahoo 54 Opponent- Ari (Ray) L Park- @Ari He was looking elite again against the Phillies the other night until the Marlins inexplicably pulled him after 70 pitches and eventually lost the game. It's that pitch count nightmare that has me more than a little worried again. At the same time, it served to continue to keep the price in check as he faces the D-Backs tonight. Arizona is a middle of the road team and the ballpark...
