Our system thinks you are basically rolling the dice with the other three. Luck throws the most of the group, has the most passing touchdowns on the season and works in an offense that’s content to throw the ball a ton in the red zone. The last piece is the key. The Colts air it out when they get close and because of it Luck stands the highest TD expectation on the day. It helps a little more that Vegas thinks the Colts will be playing from behind in this one. Now, Luck hasn’t thrown for more than two touchdowns in a game since November 30th. That’s a minor concern. The Patriots were a middle of the pack team against the pass this season both in terms of average yards per game and average yards per attempt. They aren’t elite, but don’t stink either. I think the volume is what gets Luck there in this game and three touchdown passes is a totally reasonable expectation.   All-Purpose Yards Daniel Herron He is the top expected total yardage guy in our system this week and it isn’t particularly close. The Colts sent a clear statement about game plan last week with Herron. In an effort to keep control of the ball and keep the rock out of a high-powered offense’s hands, they ran Herron 23 times over the course of the game. Of course it helped that they were leading the game and could afford to play some ball control late. But Herron is the clear number one back here and there’s reason to believe they will want to take a similar approach against the Pats rather than getting into a total shootout. Herron tops out the list because of what he does on the ground but also really...

The thought process with Luck hitting the top end of touchdowns thrown is that he throws a ton of touchdowns. Like that expert opinion there? The Colts throw so, so much that Luck is just a favorite to hit at least three touchdowns in a game. They pass the ball around 60% of the time in the red zone and that alone means the Colts will get in the end zone at a higher clip through the air than on the ground. The over/under on this game is creeping towards sixty and there will be a lot of scoring. That should keep Luck throwing until the end. Matthew Stafford With so many great quarterbacks going this week I’m looking for a little separation. We can get that in Stafford. Compared to Rodgers, Manning, Brady and the aforementioned Luck, Stafford could become a second thought. But he has Megatron back on the field and that pairing hasn’t missed a beat. He found him on a long touchdown pass last week, and with the emergence of Golden Tate, Stafford has the weapons. The Cardinal pass defense among the worst in the league and Lions should get a lot done through the air. Stafford throwing 3-4 touchdowns in this one isn’t farfetched at all.   All-Purpose Yards Calvin Johnson It’s kind of weird putting a wide receiver here only because they are going to get their yards in only one way (and with limited opportunities) compared to a running back that can run and catch for his yards. But Johnson is a singular talent and this matchup is just so juicy. I don’t think anyone has a great chance to hit the top all-purpose yards category, but Calvin could make things interesting. Last week he caught seven...

Now go get that deposit bonus and enter to win a Tesla! Last week I advocated a safer strategy in terms of hitting some of these marks, especially if you were playing in a heads up match. In those you are going to want to take safe routes with some of the bigger names and slot them in for guaranteed points. This week I'll take a look at a couple of home run types who can help you win that Tesla.   Passing Touchdowns On a short week there are actually a fair amount of decent options here at quarterback. I think there are a couple of guys I can talk myself into, especially on the high end. Of course you are going to get the Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning's of the world in these lineups. And I think they make sense from a safety point of view. But we are looking a little upside here. Jay Cutler One important concept to understand in these scenarios, especially in a format like ScoreStreak is that we want to give ourselves a chance to hit the top end and have it be with a guy other people weren't on. This separation is invaluable. Cutler is a guy who could offer a chance to hit a big TD number. This is going to be a high scoring game in which the Bears are most likely playing from behind. That's key for the passing touchdowns because we want Cutler throwing until the very end. Additionally, the Bears pass the ball at the highest clip inside the twenty yard line. Once they hit the red zone, Chicago passes 72% of the time. That's an amazingly high number. If you want a quarterback to throw touchdowns he needs to throw the ball near the end zone (groundbreaking). This is a great scenario for Cutler. Ben Roethlisberger Feels kind of gross picking a...

Daily Fantasy Football Picks Week 9 – ScoreStreak

Now go get that deposit bonus and enter to win a Tesla! This is an interesting week on ScoreStreak and for DFS football in general. With so many bigger names on byes, the chance of hitting a perfect week here are severely diminished. I'm actually, in a lot of cases, advocating a safer strategy of hitting the second and third tier with your top value plays and saving the top end for the home run types. This approach in ScoreStreak can work especially if your opponents choose players who are expected to do well, but not necessarily crush it.   Passing Touchdowns Andrew Luck No real surprise here. Luck is the top quarterback on the day and will be featured somewhere (I suspect) in every ScoreStreak league this week. I'm not inclined to fade him in this format on such a short slate simply because his volume, combined with the opponent means he stands to get his TDs in. The Giants are ranked 25th in the league in yds/game against the pass though they have run pretty well in allowing passing TDs. I much more inclined to use the former stat, especially considering Luck's usage in the red zone. He has thrown the most red zone passes in the NFL and it isn't particularly close. We want the opportunity to score and Luck provides that more than any other QB going. Peyton Manning No real surprise here. What's interesting is that while Luck has the most red zone passing attempts in the NFL, Manning has the most inside the five yard line. The Broncos are content to use their weapons when down close and Manning is able to read defenses so well that he's almost always putting his receivers in spots to succeed. Passing so much down close has its real benefits in the ScoreStreak format because we aren't as worried about...
