Point Guard Luka Doncic FD - $11300 DK - $10700Opponent - LALProj Pts FD - 57.92 DK - 62.43 It’s tough to like Doncic running into the Lakers on this slate, though LA looked moderately disengaged and disjointed in their first game of the season against the Clippers. The Mavericks lost their first game against the Suns, though he was once again fantasy elite with 32 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. No defensive stats and that line doesn’t quite get there on the price, but on this slate, I do trust him in the upper tier with the minutes as much as anyone who isn’t named Giannis. Jrue Holiday FD - $7000 DK - $7500Opponent - GSProj Pts FD - 36.58 DK - 36.82 Get ready to see a lot of Bucks in your cash game lineups for Christmas Day. They opened the season against the Celtics with a one-point loss, but put up 121 points in that game. From a fantasy perspective, Holiday looked right at home with his new team running 38 minutes, getting up 16 shots; finishing with 25 points, six rebounds, and three assists. The minutes were the real standout in the first game of the season and could signal a new era in Milwaukee in terms of run. He gets the best matchup on the slate against the Warriors with the slate’s highest total. The FanDuel price is a little easier to stomach than DraftKings, but he has a high floor in the middle tier. Stephen Curry FD - $8700 DK - $10200Opponent - MILProj Pts FD - 43.82 DK - 46.34 The Warriors got dumped on by the Nets in the first game, but it’s hard to blame Curry who finished with 20 points and 10 assists in his 30 minutes. At his DraftKings price, he’s for sure in play even against the Bucks who didn’t look as defensively sound in Game 1 considering what we’d come to expect from them last season. That being said, this Warriors team might just be bad and I do think there’s real blowout risk. Again, the DraftKings price is likely just cheap enough to survive...

FanDuel NBA Picks and DraftKings NBA Picks – Wednesday 12/23/20

Point Guard Ben Simmons FD - $9200 DK - $8700Opponent - WASProj Pts FD - 40.79 DK - 40.45 Last season, the Wizards played the second-worst defensive efficiency in the league and ran the seventh-fastest pace. Though they’ve upgraded some of their pieces in the offseason it’s hard to see how they're going to improve a whole lot on defense. And with Russell Westbrook leading the charge, they actually might even pick things up from a speed perspective. A Westbrook-led OKC team in 2018-2019 was the fifth-fastest team in the league thanks to him getting out in transition. Simmons, with shooters around him in the starting lineup, could be even more lethal this season after averaging 16 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds last year. He also puts up as many defensive stats as any guard in the league. This is a high floor play at point guard. Malcolm Brogdon FD - $6600 DK - $6200Opponent - NYProj Pts FD - 36.63 DK - 37.99 Brogdon comes in and gets to face a Knicks’ defense that should be improved with Thibs but likely also still has a long way to go with their current personnel. Brogdon averaged 17 points and seven assists last season but was hurt back a big drop-off in three-point shooting. He had shot about 40% the previous two seasons in Milwaukee but dipped down to 32% last season. Under new coaching out of Nate McMillan, I expect Brogdon to see some better looks in this offense. That should tick the scoring back up some and he’s coming in the lower middle tier in a good matchup on Wednesday. If you think Dejounte Murray (FD $6200 DK $5600) has his minutes finally steadily get up to around the 30 mark, then he’s a good value at these prices considering he can pile up the fantasy scoring in a number of different ways. The Cavs are really short on guards with Exum and Delly out on Wednesday. That could leave a lot of minutes for Darius Garland (FD $4400 DK $4100) right out of the gate. Shooting Guard Zach LaVine FD - $7900 DK - $7900Opponent - ATLProj Pts...

Point Guard Stephen Curry FD - $8700 DK - $9300Opponent - BKNProj Pts FD - 45.37 DK - 48.34 2019 was a lost season for Curry and the Warriors and this year could be a rocky one with them operating with so much new personnel. But if the final preseason game against the Kings was any indication, Curry is likely to post some monster usage numbers this season with Klay Thompson on the shelf. He chucked up 23 shots, including 13 three-pointers on his way to 29 points in 29 minutes. This Brooklyn team they are facing will be a problem on offense, but the defense, especially around the perimeter is a bit lacking. This game could very much turn into a shootout and there’s a high floor on Curry’s performance. Kyrie Irving FD - $9000 DK - $8500Opponent - GSProj Pts FD - 43.61 DK - 44.44 Kyrie put up 17 and 18 points respectively in the Nets' first two preseason games and he should be among the league leaders in scoring this season even with the time-sharing the court with Kevin Durant. They will account for such an outsized part of the Nets offense and both will likely be able to sustain these prices considering the pace at which the Nets are projected to play. This game should be up and down the court which will really play into Kyrie’s skill set. On FanDuel, stacking the two, star point guards is likely the way to go. If looking to go a little cheaper, I don’t mind a low ceiling Patrick Beverley (FD 4200 DK 4400) play. He remains the starter and can put up fantasy points in dribs and drabs if the minutes are there. It’s not a rousing endorsement, but that’s the case sometimes with punt plays on small slates. Shooting Guard Paul George FD - $7600 DK - $7800Opponent - LALProj Pts FD - 37.89 DK - 39.03 The usage dips when he shares the court with Kawhi Leonard, but the price is totally reasonable on both sites for George. He’s priced in the middle tier for a reason coming off a season in which he...

Pitchers Blake Snell FD 8300 DK 7800 Opponent - TOR (Hyun-Jin Ryu) Park - TORFD - 37.91 DK - 20.73 Snell enters the first day of the playoffs as the best money line favorite on the shorter slate. He was excellent in his 11 starts this season, striking out more than 11 batters per nine and keeping the xFIP at 3.06. There are still a few more walks than you like to see, but he’s a positive bargain on FanDuel as the sixth most expensive pitcher on the slate. The Blue Jays strike out 24% of the time against lefties this season though they did have a solid OPS in that split. That being said, with playoff teams we are looking for any edge because all of the matchups are rough. This is a good spot for Snell. Shane Bieber FD 11200 DK 9000 Opponent - NYY (Gerrit Cole) Park - NYYFD - 46.37 DK - 25.81 Bieber is second on this list only because of the price. Because every other number has been out of this world for the Indians’ ace this season. He led baseball in pitcher WAR, struck out more than 14 batters per inning and sported a 2.04 xFIP. Even when batters made contact (which wasn’t often) he induced a nearly 50% ground ball rate. Yes I get this is a terrible matchup against an excellent Yankees offense that finished 5th in team wOBA even with all of their injuries. But Bieber is also just the best pitcher in baseball right now and that’s always going to be a tough fade. Catcher/First Base Yasmani Grandal FD 2900 DK 4300 Opponent - OAK (Jesus Luzardo) Park - OAKFD - 9.72 DK - 7.21 Eloy Jiménez FD 3600 DK 4600 Opponent - OAK (Jesus Luzardo) Park - OAKFD - 9.71 DK - 7.39 It isn’t much, but the White Sox open with the third-highest implied run line on the slate against the lefty Luzardo. While a platoon neutral switch hitter for his career, Grandal was significantly better against lefties this season with a .905 OPS in around 40 plate appearances (I know, I know small sample size). But he should hit in the middle of the order and is reasonably priced on both sites. Meanwhile, Jimenez...

Raptors (3) vs. Celtics (-3) After the Raptors tied things up 2-2 in game four, game five was rather anticlimactic with the Celtics winning by an easy 22, 111-89. It was a disappointing turnaround for Toronto who never looked comfortable and were dispatched easily. They now face an elimination game and will likely pull out all of the stops. In a close game, we could see mid-40’s minutes out of Kyle Lowry (FD $8900 DK $8200), Fred Vanvleet (FD $7900 DK $7500), OG Anunoby (FD $6000 DK $5700) and Pascal Siakam (FD $8000 DK $7800). I basically just listed them in order of how safe I feel they are in cash. Lowry and VanVleet continued some shooting struggles and finished with 10 and 18 points respectively in game two. It’s been an up and down series for both. FVV is probably the better value of the two, but the shot has really struggled in this series. Anunoby gets enough done on the defensive side to keep the floor high and took the third-most shots on the team in game five with 11. He’s not cheap, but if you are just hedging down the middle with that tier of pricing then he’s a good play. I don’t trust Siakam at all in cash with the fantasy lines mostly trending the wrong way, but I also could see him playing almost the whole game. On the other side, the Celtics bring their own foursome who is sometimes tough to discern between in cash. Ranking them in order, I’d go Kemba Walker (FD $8300 DK $8100), Marcus Smart (FD $5700 DK $6500), Jayson Tatum (FD $9400 DK $9300) and Jaylen Brown (FD $7800 DK $7600) in that order for how I think they stack in terms of value. Walker has had an up and down series but is still averaging 20 points and six assists even with a little run bad on the three-point shooting. the usage rate is still there and he’s close to a lock on both sites when it comes to our system. Marcus Smart is averaging eight threes a game for the series and actually knocking them down at a...
