Bank of America Roval 400 Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course- Concord, NC The race that everyone has been talking about since it was cemented on the 2018 schedule is finally here. The first elimination race of the Monster Energy Cup Series Playoffs takes us to Charlotte Motor Speedway but it won't be like any race you have ever witnessed. The track added a hybrid road course this season called the Roval and it presents a ton of unpredictability for drivers and teams making it a complete wildcard for those remaining drivers who are not locked into the second round. Before going any further, let's take a look at the track overview and then take a ride around the track with AJ Allmendinger. For fantasy, it appears there will be some opportunity for passing on the oval portion of the track so track position may not be as important(still very important) as other road courses. I will also be targeting playoff drivers for the most part to create my core. I will definitely not be playing cash games this week as there WILL be wrecks at this track adding a ton of variance meaning you can be contrarian and target drivers who might be lower owned this week. Stay tuned for updates on practices and qualifying on my sheet and in chat. Let's now look at some road course trends, form trends, and then a few pre-qualifying targets. Top 5 Current Track Type History(Road Course) Over the last two years(six race) on road courses, no team has been more consistent than Joe Gibbs Racing. Kyle Busch doesn't have a road course win since Sonoma in 2015 but since then he has reeled off seven straight Top 10 finishes. Denny Hamlin won the Watkins Glen race in 2016 and is right up there with Busch having a 5.7 average finish in the last six races overall on road courses. Martin Truex Jr. who runs in the #78 car, a technical alliance teammate of JGR, has been terrific on road courses lately having finished second at Watkins Glen back in August and...

Federated Auto Parts 400 Richmond International Raceway Track - .75 Mile D-Shaped Oval Short Track It was a crazy playoff opener at Las Vegas where seven of the 16 contenders had issues or were involved in a wreck, four of them(Harvick, Jones, Elliott, Hamlin) making a trip to the garage early. This has proved that playoff points from stage and race wins throughout the season are so important as Kevin Harvick, despite the wreck, still sits fourth in the standings only nine points back of leader Brad Keselowski. One race down, two to go in this first round and this weeks race at Richmond is extremely important as the elimination race comes next week at the new Charlotte Roval where drivers have never been on track in competition. Richmond is a .75-mile flat track with just 14 degrees of banking and while it falls under the umbrella of short tracks, I won't be weighing track type as high as all three short tracks(Martinsville, Bristol, Richmon) are so much different. For fantasy, dominator points are even more important this week as there are 400 laps and over the last six race here, there has been at least one driver(twice there has been two) to lead 100 or more laps. There has also been three or more drivers to lead 50 or more laps in three straight and four of the last five races here at Richmond. Last Six Winners at Richmond Kyle Busch(started 32, led 32 laps) Kyle Larson(started 4th, led 53 laps) Joey Logano(started 5th, led 25 laps) Denny Hamlin(started 1st, led 189 laps) Carl Edwards(started 4th, led 151 laps) Matt Kenseth(started 2nd, led 352 laps) Top 5 Current Track History at Richmond No driver has been better here at Richmond over the last two years(five races) than Denny Hamlin. He returns with five straight Top 10's including a win in 2016 and four straight Top 5 finishes with 255 laps led. Despite the encumbered finish for Joey Logano in the Spring of 2017, the win still counts on the stats sheet and like Hamlin, he has finished...

South Point 400 Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas, NV Track - 1.5 Mile Intermediate After seven months and 26 races, the regular season has concluded and it's time for the Monster Energy Cup Series Playoffs. Before getting into the race itself let's review the playoff structure. There are 10 races broken into four rounds with three races in each of the first three rounds where the field will be cut in half after the third race. Points are reset going into the first race but those drivers who earned stage and race wins during the regular season received playoff points that carry over through the first three rounds. The winner of the regular season(Kyle Busch) also receives an additional 15 playoff points. You can check out the standings going into the first race HERE. The Playoffs start with a trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second time this season. For the first time in the track's history, it will receive a second race on the schedule and not only that but the first race of the 2018 Playoffs. The track is a 1.5-mile D-Shaped Oval Intermediate with 20 degrees of banking in the corners. For fantasy, we will be concentrating on dominator points to construct our core as there have been one driver to lead 100 or more laps in four of the last six races here and each of the last two winners(Kevin Harvick & Martin Truex Jr.) have both led 150 or more laps. As always, place differential upside will be determined by qualifying so make sure to grab a copy of my DFS NASCAR Cheatsheet where I update practice adn qualifying ranks and list my top plays leading into the race. Let's now jump in and take a look at some race trends adn pre-qualifying targets. Last Six Winners at Las Vegas Kevin Harvick(started 2nd, led 214 laps) Martin Truex Jr.(started 2nd, led 150 laps) Brad Keselowski(started 4th, led 24 laps) Kevin Harvick(started 18th, led 142 laps) Brad Keselowski(started 2nd, led 53 laps) Matt Kenseth(started 18th, led 42 laps) Top 5 Current Track History at Las Vegas Over...

Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Speedway, IN Track - 2.5 Mile Oval Intermediate With just one race to go in the regular, the field is almost set for the Monster Energy Cup Series Playoffs, at least from a points perspective. The only way a driver outside the points would be able to sneak in would be with a win this weekend as the Cup Series makes it's lone trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Big machine Vodka 400. Looking at the race from a fantasy perspective, there are only 167 laps which means dominator points won't be nearly as important this week as finishing position. Only once has there been a driver lead 100 or more laps in the last six races and not once has there been multiple drivers lead 50 or more laps. Qualifying will be the true indicator of how to construct our lineups as there have been 11 and eight drivers to pick up double-digit place differential the last two years. With that said, let's dig into the race trends and pre-qualifying targets. Last Six Winners at Indianapolis 2017 - Kasey Kahne(started 19th, led 12 laps) 2016 - Kyle Busch(started 1st, led 149 laps) 2015 - Kyle Busch(started 9th, led 19 laps) 2014 - Jeff Gordon(started 2nd, led 40 laps) 2013 - Ryan Newman(started 1st, led 45 laps) 2012 - Jimmie Johnson(started 6th, led 99 laps) Top 5 Current Track History at Indianapolis Matt Kenseth returns to Indianapolis with back to back Top 5's and Top 10's in five straight races here but take that with a grain of salt as that was in the #20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing. Since jumping into the #6 car for Roush Fenway Racing he has failed to pick up a Top 10 finish and has just three Top 15 finishes. Joey Logano has also been very consistent here recently with a 4th place finish last season and 7th in 2016 and overall has five straight Top 10's at Indy. Kevin Harvick has failed to lead a lap here in the...

Bojangles Southern 500 Darlington Raceway - Darlington, SC Track - 1.366 Mile Intermediate Track(23-25 Degrees of Banking) After what seemed like a very long week off, the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series returns this week for one of the premier events in the sport, the Southern 500. It is a throwback weekend where teams and drivers will sport car paint schemes and even costumes emulating drivers and teams from years past. Darlington has been a staple on the Cup Series schedule since back in 1950 and is duly named the track "Too Tough to Tame". It is a 1.366-mile asphalt track that is very narrow and creates a very tough environment for even the best drivers in the world. It was repaved back in 2007 but with 10 years of wear, it has become very abrasive again which will wear tires very fast and put a ton of emphasis on strategy for crew chiefs and teams. The other thing that adds to the difficulty is that each end of the track is different with different banking. As you would expect, it is also a track where the veteran drivers almost always come out on top. For fantasy, we will once again be looking to build around dominator point upside as there has been at least one(two last year) driver to lead 100 or more laps in each of the last six races here. There have also been multiple drivers(three drivers in 2017 & 2012) to lead 50 or more laps in four of the last six races. Passing can be difficult here so unless something dramatic happens in qualifying, place differential will be slightly discounted this week. Only once in the last six races has there been double-digit drivers pick up double-digit place differential points. With that said, let's dig in to the trends for this race and then look at some pre-qualifying targets. Last Six Winners at Darlington Denny Hamlin(started 9th, led 124 laps) Martin Truex Jr.(started 8th, led 28 laps) Carl Edwards(started 13th, led 15 laps) Kevin Harvick(started 1st, led 238 laps) Matt Kenseth(started 7th, led 17...
