Federated Auto Parts 400 The Playoffs are in full swing and it was Martin Truex Jr. who was the first to book his ticket into the second round with a win at Las Vegas last week. Surprisingly enough, he was the only Joe Gibbs Racing driver to finish with a Top 10 as Denny Hamlin finished 11th, Kyle Busch finished 18th, and Erik Jones had mechanical issues and finished 13 laps down in 36th. Joining Jones in a tough position going into the next two races is Kurt Busch who made contact with Chase Elliott, got a tire rub, stayed out one lap too long and ended up in the wall finishing 39th. Truex now leads the standings going into Richmond with Harvick, Logano, Kyle Busch, and Keselowski rounding out the Top 5. The second race of the Playoffs takes the Cup series back to Richmond for the second time with Joe Gibbs Racing Racing drivers Kyle Busch(101) and Martin Truex Jr.(186) dominating the laps led with Truex coming home the eventual winner. From a track-type standpoint, it is classified as a short track but look at it more in a grouping of shorter tracks that are flat and that list includes Richmond, Phoenix, Martinsville, and New Hampshire. I have added this season's data on those track to the sheet this week and that is how I will be weighing track type in my model. Looking at the last six races here at Richmond, there has been a driver to lead 100 or more laps in each race with two drivers leading 100+ in three of the last six races including earlier this Spring. Of the nine instances where a driver led 100 or more laps in those last six races, the driver came from a Top 10 starting position seven times and a Top 5 starting position five times. Qualifying and track position are huge in this race as strategy can be tough to come by with teams taking four tires...

This was good thing for those who enjoyed the throwback paint schemes. Carl Edwards got over losing laps early in the race as he stayed out on older tires. His pit crew was on fire during the race and got him out of the pits in first on the final stop with 8 laps to go. He didn't look back as he took the checkered flag and his second win of the season. The downforce package and tire package used at Darlington lead to some old school racing which most of the drivers loved. NASCAR will go back to the regular 2015 package for the Chase playoffs. This week NASCAR heads to Richmond for the final race before the Chase for the Sprint Cup Playoffs. There are 11 drivers who have wins in 2015 and are locked into the Chase. Sitting in 12th - 16th in the standings are McMurray(12th-726 pts), Newman(13th-714 pts), Gordon(14th-700 pts), Menard(15th-692 pts) and Bowyer(16th-682 pts). Aric Almirola sits in 17th place in the standing, 29 points behind Bowyer. It would take some bad luck from Bowyer or Menard and a tremendous finish from Almirola for him to overtake 16th in the Chase Grid. There is a possibility of a driver outside the Chase Grid making it into the playoffs by winning this final race at Richmond. This scenario looks to be a long shot as Richmond is a tough track and none of the drivers outside of 16th have had a lot of success here. Come Saturday night though, none of those drivers care what happened in the past. They are only trying to get the win and into the playoffs. This should make for an exciting race. Here are my picks. Upper Tier Targets Kevin Harvick DraftKings - $11,400 Fantasy Feud - $265,000 Vegas Odds - 5.5/1 Sprint Cup Standings – 1st Practice #1 -...
