I wouldn't be excited to play Alzolay on a normal slate, but this is no normal slate. And Alzolay, honestly, has been pretty good. His 3.35 xFIP is his best figure since rookie ball, and while it might not maintain all season, we're going to try and ride the wave today. San Diego is basically a league-average offense, and getting Alzolay out of his tough home park and into one of the best pitcher's parks in the Majors can only be a good thing. Nick Pivetta FD - P 9300 DK - SP 8000 Opponent - MIA (Pablo López) Park - BOS FD - 29.48 DK - 14.68 Pivetta and the BoSox are the biggest favorites on the slate today against this Miami team. The 28 year old righty is showing glimpses of his 2018 form, posting a double-digit K/9 and a sub 4 ERA. It's nothing to write home about at these prices, but again, it's a three game slate with no amazing pitching options. Miami finds themselves in a familiar position as one of the league's best DFS match-ups for opposing pitchers, pairing the league's 4th highest K% with the 10th worst wOBA. Position players You have one game with an 8.5 point total, and two others with a 7.5 point total. This might be the smallest number of runs per game on a main slate ever, and it puts us in a very sticky position when it comes to forecasting player performance today. I'll try to provide you with a few options, but on a small slate your mistakes will be amplified, so where there is a clear-cut option I'm only going to give you one. Catcher/First Base Jesús Aguilar FD - 1B 2800 DK - 1B 4300 Opponent - BOS (Nick Pivetta) Park - BOS FD - 9.2 DK - 6.92 Yep, it's looking pretty thin out here today. Still, Aguilar isn't a terrible option. He's been a hair worse than platoon neutral over the course of his career, so we're not too worried about him not having the platoon in his favor. He strikes out too often, but he also is a serious long-ball threat, with 11 homers...

Point Guard Kyrie Irving FD - $9700 DK - $9200 Opponent - MIL Proj Pts FD - 57.12 DK - 58.23 With Harden out today, it's going to be a race to try and fit Kyrie and Durant together. Chances are good you won't be able to play both, though, so some tough decisions will have to be made. Both were similar in terms of their fantasy points per dollar on these prices, and while Kyrie has a tougher match-up than KD, he also played more minutes. My guess is that Kyrie is slightly more important given that he'll assume most of Harden's ball-handling duties, and given the cheaper price point I'd like to have him out there. Jrue Holiday FD - $8400 DK - $7800 Opponent - BKN Proj Pts FD - 41.81 DK - 42.17 Most point guards are flat-out unplayable today, so if we don't get a chance to play Mike James (more on him in a minute), we might be "stuck" playing Jrue. I actually like Jrue at this price point, and going up against Kyrie is a terrific match-up, but if we spent $18k on point guards we live ourselves very little for the other positions, which makes things very tough on a two game playoff slate where most players are efficiently priced. A fundamental question for today's slate is what will happen with James Harden's minutes. Brown started the second half for the Nets, but it was Mike James who played 31 minutes total. If James gets the start, he's a terrific DFS play. I could also see playing Brown if he gets the start, though it would be a little closer. Shooting Guard Devin Booker FD - $8700 DK - $8500 Opponent - DEN Proj Pts FD - 47.51 DK - 49.7 Austin Rivers FD - $4900 DK - $4000 Opponent - PHO Proj Pts FD - 23.72 DK - 24.41 Normally I wouldn't lump these guys together, but there are essentially no other options at the position today. Neither Brooklyn nor Milwaukee will field a starter that qualifies at shooting guard on FanDuel, and if Bruce Brown does get the start he's not...

DraftKings and FanDuel MLB Picks for Sunday 6/6/21

DraftKings and FanDuel MLB Picks for Sunday 6/6/21 Now’s your chance to get DFSR PRO, which will give you access to our MLB, NBA, PGA, NHL, and NFL optimizers and our new player lab! Get started for free by clicking the button below. START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW! Pitchers Corbin Burnes FD - P 11000 DK - RP 11000 Opponent - ARI (Caleb Smith) Park - MILFD - 43.43 DK - 23.85 Burnes has some of the best peripherals you’ll ever see for a starting pitcher and has been absolutely dominant when on the mound this season. In his 52 innings, he’s struck out a whopping 41% of the batters he’s face and walked only 3.5%. This is just ridiculous and has him at a 11.6:1 K:BB ratio. He’s rocking a minuscule 1.83 xFIP which is about as low as you’ll ever see. On Sunday, he opens as a -233 home favorite against the Arizona Diamondbacks who rank as a below-average offense on the season. Burnes is a very tough fade here considering the peripherals and win expectation, making him the best play on the slate. Dylan Cease FD - P 7600 DK - SP 9400 Opponent - DET (Jose Urena) Park - CHWFD - 37.49 DK - 19.79 Cease isn’t as good as Burnes but has put together a solid season so far especially in the strikeout department. He has an 11.2 K/9 rate which is a dramatic improvement over his first few seasons in the majors. He’s throwing his fastball a bit more this year than last and the results have been good. His one issue is the walk rate making the ability to go longer in games a problem. But he’s a -210 home favorite against the Tigers who rank 26th as a team in offense this year. Catcher/First Base Rhys Hoskins FD - 1B 3500 DK - 1B 4800 Opponent - WSH (Undecided) Park - PHIFD - 14.18 DK - 10.42 The Nationals haven’t decided who is going to pitch for them on Sunday and that’s usually a good sign for opposing hitters. Hoskins isn’t as patient this season with an 8% walk rate that’s about half of what he’s done in the past. But the power is there with 12 home runs through his first 232 plate appearances and a solid .850 OPS. He should be no lower than the cleanup spot for the Phillies depending on who they end up facing here. Carlos Santana FD - 1B 3000 DK - 1B 4100 Opponent - MIN (Undecided) Park - KCFD - 12.15 DK - 9.04 Like Hoskins and the Phillies, The Royals face an undecided pitcher on the Twins for Sunday. Santana is one...

Mavericks (6) vs. Clippers (-6) This has been one of the best first-round series you could ever hope to see and fittingly it’s gone to Game 7. From a DFS perspective, it’s a very tough fade considering the number of minutes the superstars are going to play as long as it stays close. Let’s take a look. Kawhi Leonard FD - $10600 DK - $9900Opponent - DALProj Pts FD - 53.24 DK - 53.89 Kawhi saved his best game of the series for Game 6 when the Clippers faced elimination. He dropped 45 points including key baskets near the end that put them over the top. For the series, he’s averaging 33 points, 7.5 rebounds, and three blocks+steals. He’s a favorite to play 43+ minutes if the game is close. There’s no reason to take their foot off the gas and he was able to go a ton last game even guarding Luka for long stretches. Paul George FD - $9400 DK - $9000Opponent - DALProj Pts FD - 52.41 DK - 55.26 Paul George played all but two minutes in Game 6 and that could be the case again for him in this elimination game. His usage rate wasn’t all that high considering the amount of run he got, but he did score 20 points on 15 shots. The 13 rebounds helped the fantasy line a ton and you really just can’t fade him here on either site considering how much he’s projected to play. Reggie Jackson FD - $5400 DK - $5400Opponent - DALProj Pts FD - 29.34 DK - 30.95 What a game he had last time out and the price hasn’t moved all that much. Jackson was second on the team with 25 points and was one of the main reasons they were able to pull this one out in Dallas. He also grabbed nine rebounds and added four assists. The middle tier pricing isn’t reflective of how much he’s been playing and if they are going to continue to rely on his scoring then he’s basically a must-play at these prices. You can basically think about playing the whole Clippers starting five with Marcus Morris Sr. (FD $5000 DK $4900) and...

Pitchers Zack Wheeler FD - P 11500 DK - SP 10700 Opponent - WSH (Max Scherzer) Park - PHI FD - 38.96 DK - 20.44 We have a very interesting choice to make at pitcher in this NL East matchup that has a slate-low 6.5 total. With a lack of value options I trust for cash games, I will be fading Scherzer's price and leading off with Zach Wheeler. He provides a ton of consistency averaging almost seven innings per start and enters the night with an elite 2.75 ERA(14th best among starters) and 2.48 xFIP(5th best). He also gives us a ton of upside potential and has tallied 10+ K's in three straight(35 total) starts. It also helps that the Nats have struggled to score recently averaging just 2.6 runs per game over their last 10. All things considered, Wheeler is in play in all formats. Freddy Peralta FD - P 8700 DK - SP 10400 Opponent - ARI (Matt Peacock) Park - MIL FD - 37.01 DK - 20.7 While you can pair Wheeler and Peralta together on DraftKings, this pick is more about FanDuel tonight where he is $2500+ cheaper than both Max and Wheeler. He also has very similar numbers across the board with a 2.38 ERA/3.34 xFIP and is second behind Jacob deGrom with an elite 37% K rate backed up by a 15% swinging-strike rate. I also like the matchup tonight against the Diamondbacks who have a wRC+(87) 23% lower against right-handed pitching. Also Consider: Shohei Ohtani(LAA) who lacks control at times pushing his pitch count up early but has elite upside at these prices vs a SEA team that K's 26% of the time Catcher/First Base Matt Olson FD - 1B 4100 DK - 1B 5300 Opponent - COL (Jon Gray) Park - COL FD - 13.52 DK - 10.02 The A's are likely going to load up on left-handed bats tonight vs. Jon Gray in Coors Field and that leads us right to Matt Olson who is having a career-start to the season. While he is mainly used in DFS for his power numbers as he leads the team in HR(14) and RBI(37), he enters the night with a .274 average which is over 30 points higher than his career mark. A lot of this has to do with plate awareness and patience as he is striking out just 16.7% of the time...
