This week is another two-event week but for this article, we will be focusing on WGC Dell Technologies Match Play from Austin Country Club. While the event dates back to 1999, it has only been held here at Austin CC since 2016 so that is the data we will be using in terms of course history and the stats model. Speaking of that stats model, I am keeping it pretty simple this week and looking for players who are trending in terms of ball striking, especially with the irons, par 4 scoring, putting on Bermuda greens, and making birdies. More importantly this week, in terms of strategy, is optimizing your lineups based on the complete bracket and possible outcomes. I go over some of this strategy in my DFS PGA Preview video Monday night. Check it out then and then below, I will be going over a few of my core plays for this event. Top Targets Jordan Spieth Seed (#11) Vegas Odds (33/1) Draftkings ($8,900) At first look, it is a fairly tough group with Scott, Rose, and Keegan but where Spieth holds the advantage is with his experience. He has played the event here at Austin CC each ear it has hosted and while he has only made it through the group stage twice, he has a terrific 9-3-3 group record. The ball-striking(19th in this field & +.9) has been good over the last 12 rounds and while the putter has been up and down we know he hot he...

The Course Innisbrook Resort Par 71 - 7,340 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2021 - Sam Burns(-17) 2019 - Paul Casey(-8) 2018 - Paul Casey(-10) 2017 - Adam Hadwin(-14) 2016 - Charl Schwartzel(-7) It was a wild Players Championship that was extended into Monday but the good news for the players is that Tour stays in Florida this week for the Valspar Championship. The is obviously much weaker this week but still strong at the top led by Collin Morikawa(#2), Viktor Hovland(#3), Justin Thomas(#8), Xander Schauffele(#9), and Duston Johnson(#10) all of whom rank inside the Top 10 in the World. The 144-man field will tee it up on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort which is a Par 71 that is listed at 7,340 yards on the scorecard. It is another tough test of golf for the field as the course has ranked 14th, 3rd, 4th, 12th, and 3rd hardest courses on Tour(scoring average) of the non-majors/Players Championship. Aiding in that difficulty is the weather and specifically, the wind so make sure to pay close attention to the forecast as lock approaches. The first thing that stands out with this Par 71 setup is the hole distribution as there are five par 3's with four of them stretching over 200 yards and the fifth at 195 yards. The next thing to note is that even with a Par 71, there are still four Par 5's and some of the most difficult on Tour. With all that said, I am still very high on Par 4 Scoring as it has shown the highest correlation of the three in terms of success and finishing position in this event. With this very much being a position course off the tee, I am also high on Strokes...

The Course TPC Sawgrass Par 72 - 7,256 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2021 - Juston Thomas(-14) 2019 - Rory McIlroy(-16) 2018 - Webb Simpson(-18) 2017 - Si Woo Kim(-10) 2016 - Jason Day(-15) This week the "strongest field in golf" heads to TPC Sawgrass for the (all caps)PLAYERS Championship. Last year, it was Justin Thomas hoisting the hardware with a spectacular tee to green effort where he gained 13 strokes on the field. The only reason Lee Westwood, Bryson, and others had a chance was the JT's average putter(+1.6 or 52nd in the field). When looking at the strokes gained data, it was an almost identical win for Rory in 2019 as he gained 13 strokes tee to green en route to winning while finishing 56th in SG: Putting. While we do have a very strong field, it is not categorized as the "toughest" in terms of scoring as it has only ranked inside the Top 15 hardest courses once(2017) in the last five trips to TPC Sawgrass. The field is even stronger than last year as all of the Top 10 and 48 of the Top 50 players in the World will be teeing it up at TPC Sawgrass this week. The course is a Pete Dye gem that, like almost all of his designs, comes with tight fairways, lots of doglegs and hazards forcing accuracy and with TPC Sawgrass in Florida, that means a ton of water(in play on 17 holes). Overall, it is going to take a strong all-around game to beat the best players in the world but below I will go over a few of my key stats in the model this week. Top Stats Strokes Gained: Ball Striking Let's start with Strokes Gained: Off the...

This week on the PGA Tour brings us two events with the Puerto Rico Open and Arnold Palmer Invitational but for this article, we will concentrate on the latter. I will have a sheet up for both events and you can access them on the Chris's Sheets page on the DFSR website. Let's dive into the API! The Course Bay Hill Club & Lodge Par 72 - 7,454 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2021 - Bryson DeChambeau(-11) 2020 - Tyrrell Hatton(-4) 2019 - Francesco Molinari(-12) 2018 - Rory McIlroy(-18) 2017 - Marc Leishman(-11) This week a loaded PGA Tour field heads to Bay Hill Club & Lodge for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The biggest news of the week was the Monday WD from defending champion Bryson DeChambeau who is dealing with a Saudi League conspiracy wrist injury. The good news is that we still get four of the Top 10 and 31 of the Top 50 players in the world including World #1 Jon Rahm making his debut at this event. The field will take on Bay Hill(Par 72 - 7,454 yards) which is one of the toughest tests on tour on ranking inside the Top 10 in terms of difficulty in four of the last five years. Much like last week, most of that difficulty comes from the water in play which forces a strong ball-striking effort if you are looking to make the cut and a near-elite one if you want to top the leaderboard come Sunday. Strokes Gained: Ball Striking is where the majority of my stats model will come from this week. Breaking it down further, I am leaning accuracy over distance off the tee and on the approach I am targeting long iron approach distances with a...

The Course PGA National(Champion) Par 70 - 7,125 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2021 - Matt Jones(-12) 2020 - Sungjae Im(-6) 2019 - Keith Mitchell(-9) 2018 - Justin Thomas(-8) 2017 - Ricke Fowler(-12) The Florida swing gets underway this week as the PGA Tour heads to the PGA National(Champion Course) for The Honda Classic. After seeing each of the Top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings last week at the Genesis Invitational, we see none of them this week and just 12 of the Top 50 teeing it up at one of the toughest courses on Tour. That is partly due to the Bear Trap(Holes 15-16-17) which is the fourth hardest three-hole stretch(non-majors) dating back to 2007. There is an abundance of water(ask Ryan Palmer who has 17 water balls on the Bear Trap) which puts an emphasis on precision tee to green. On these tough scoring courses with danger lurking at every corner, it takes a full tee-to-green game if you want to be on the leaderboard on Sunday and contend for a win. For fantasy, here are a couple of my top-weighted stats in my model: Strokes Gained: Ball Striking This is a very broad stat in my model that can be broken down different ways for different courses. This week, it starts with Strokes Gained: Off the Tee with danger lurking seemingly everywhere and driving accuracy(fairways gained on Fantasy National) should be the focal point. The boost important part and highest weighted part of my ball striking model is Strokes Gained: Approach which is highly correlated to winning year after year. Breaking it down a little further, I am looking at Proximity ranges from 150-175 and 175-200 yards which makes up almost 50% of all approach shots here...
