Madison Bumgarner - FD 10500 DK 10500 DFSTR 3100 Bumgarner got hit around a little bit in his first start, but it looks like noise to me. The 7 Ks to 1 BB were solid, and these things happen some time. We all know the story from last season for the Giants' ace: the 219 Ks against 43 BB speak for themselves. What you really have to like about Bumgarner today (especially for cash games) are the match-up and the park. The Giants' home park depresses power hitting quite a bit, and the Diamondbacks managed just a .299 wOBA against left handed pitching last year. He's the only clear ace going today, and investing this much salary on a high multiplier in a game where the Giants should be favored is looking pretty good, to me. Archie Bradley - FD 7400 DK 6400 DFSTR 3000 If you're looking to just go off board for an interesting punt play, Archie Bradley is somewhat fascinating. He's clearly a dog to register the win here, but the park is great, the Giants aren't exactly teeming with pop, and he posted some pretty nice K rates in the minors. There's absolutely a scenario in which he posts the highest points per dollar performance of any pitcher on the board. Big Gap Also considered: It's tough to give you any other pitcher in good faith, today. Our projection system thinks Dillon Gee is an interesting play in a good park against a team that strikes out against righties a ton, but I would have a heck of a hard time pullingt he trigger there. It also like Cole Hamels, but he looks like a poor man's version of Bumgarner to me, so I'm not sure why you'd do that. Catcher Wilson Ramos - FD 3000 DK 3400 DFSTR 6000 Our top catcher selection from yesterday stuffed the stat sheet against Boston, going 2/5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI, and generally sent ripples of delight throughout the industry. Tonight's match-up is decidedly less rosy, as Cole Hamels is no slouch. But Ramos is simply good against left handed pitching - posting a .355 wOBA against southpaws last season. Throw in the anecdotal nice pop he's shown so far this season, and I'd be comfortable grabbing him here on a day where catcher is pretty thin. Carlos Ruiz - FD 2300 DK 3500 DFSTR 4800 If you're...

Get involved today by clicking the banner below! Tonight's the craziest slate I've ever written. Whole teams are sitting, and minutes across the league are utterly in doubt. If you want to get more precise projections, our projection system is about as up to date as I can get it, and you can grab a free three day trial that will bring you over to MLB season as well. On to the picks! Point Guards Point Guards Russell Westbrook - FD 12100 DK 11800 DFSTR OR D.J. Augustin - FD 4000 DK 3400 DFSTR 3800 Westbrook took 43 shots last night (the most by any player since Kobe's 81 point game) en route to a ridiculous 54/9/8 game. He'd be the easiest play of all time against Portland tonight except... he also got awarded his 16th technical foul of the season, which will likely cause him to miss Monday's game (and summarily kill OKC's playoff run, if it's not dead already). The league could overturn the tech, though, and if so, Westbrook is the easiest play ever. If he doesn't play, though, Augustin becomes the top play on the board. He'll have the ball in his hands nearly all game as the Thunder fight for their lives. Goran Dragic - FD 6400 DK 6800 DFSTR 5600 The Heat are not yet mathematically eliminated, which means Dragic should be scheduled for 35 or so minutes against an Orlando team that has allowed 2% more scoring, 5% more rebounding, and 9% more assists than league average to opposing point guards. Elfrid Payton shows flashes on D, but he's still inexperienced, and his gambling has allowed for opposing PGs to have some monster games. Love him here. Tyreke Evans - FD 7900 DK 7700 DFSTR 6500 The Pelicans lost on Sunday night, which means that they've got to win on Monday against the Wolves. They'll win. And it should mean that Evans plays his full set of high 30s minutes. With the uncertainty swirling tonight, you have to take security where you can get it. You'll be able to play punts wherever you want them, and if you want a guy who's going to play with max effort in a must win. LaVine has been playing well (and is a fine fantasy play in its own right), but defense isn't his strong suit. Grab Evans, and ring...

Get involved today by clicking the banner below! Point Guards Tyreke Evans - FD 7800 DK 7600 DFSTR 6300 In close games recently, Evans has been handling the ball a ton and playing a lot of minutes. With the Pels still breathing, I imagine they'll work Evans until they're either in or out of the picture. I'm looking to the recent game against Houston for guidance here. In a worse match-up, he put up 42 fantasy points on 38 minutes. Lillard has been pretty horrible on defense this year, allowing 5% more scoring and 18% more rebounding to opposing point guards. With a lot of uncertainty around other teams that already have their playoff picture locked up, I'll go for the still-hungry any day. Greivis Vasquez - FD 4100 DK 5000 DFSTR 4000 From last night's picks: Vasquez's minutes continue to be in the 30s, and his price stays the same. Why? He went out and put up 5.5x points per dollar against the Wolves his last time out, and has flashed 7x-8x upside in recent games as well. Sure, there are some clunkers in there as well, but you can't get this kind of upside at higher price points. Vasquez is the guy that helps you afford the big money guys that you'll want to play tonight. The Nets, for their part, have been slightly below average against opposing point guards this season - but this is a case of price and opportunity matching up. I'll play him everywhere once again. I'm writing this as of halftime in the Brooklyn game, and he's on pace to pay something like 4.5x points per dollar. Not exactly lighting the world on fire, but that's the thing about this price - the floor is ridiculously high. I'm going to keep plugging away with him until the inevitable breakout game comes. And it will come. Deron Williams - FD 6600 DK 6300 DFSTR 5600 Sure, he's one of the least likable players in the NBA on the league's most boring team, but have you seen what Williams has been providing on these prices recently? He's put up 30+ fantasy points in 6 of his last 7 contests, and has crushed that number a handful of times as well. What's going on? Well, the Nets are also in a "battle" for one of the bottom seeds in the...

Tyreke Evans - FD 7800 DK 7600 DFSTR 6300 We recommended 'Reke before his last game against the Kings, and he put up 42.4 fantasy points on the back of 25 points and 10 assists. I generally think the whole idea of revenge games is, well, less than scientific. But Evans was ceremoniously dumped by Sacramento, and his effort really does change on a game to game basis. He's also playing a ton of minutes, and the Pelicans really need him. No reason to think he won't be a great mid-tier value play today, with considerable upside as well. Aaron Brooks - FD 5900 DK 5800 DFSTR 3900 Just a case of Hinrich and Rose being out. If he plays mid-thirties minutes, it's going to be hard for him to NOT pay these prices off, especially against a gimpy Reggie Jackson and a generally indifferent Pistons team. Mike Conley - FD 5900 DK 6100 DFSTR 6000 Conley's price took a nose dive after his injury, and hasn't climbed back to its previous levels. A few things have suppressed it - but mostly limited minutes in blow-out situations. This game against the Thunder should play out more like his recent games have, helping Conley hit his 34-35 minute mark where he has the ball in his hands a ton. And as Westbrook has gone to a different level offensively, he hasn't been able to maintain the same effectiveness on the defensive end, allowing a 3% above average amount of fantasy points to opposing point guards this season. It's not a through-the-roof...
Daily Fantasy Sports Players have Huge Edge in Traditional Betting Markets
Taking what you know from Daily Fantasy Sports and applying it to betting sports elsewhere I’m a sports betting guy. Have been for a long time now. Now that daily fantasy sports is exploding and become so huge I can’t help but feel like a bit of a dinosaur. DFS offers big money, big excitement, and a whole new language and way of looking at NBA games and how teams matchup daily. Instead of running away and hiding, though, I have come to realize that there is no reason why the two worlds — DFS and sports betting — can’t mutually co-exist. In fact, strong daily fantasy sports players can look to sports betting, in some cases, to add to their bottom lines. Here are three scenarios where that can be the case: Bandwagon teams: The betting public isn’t often very smart, but they are thankfully predictable. When a team or a player is making a lot of headlines, you can be fairly sure that the public will be paying a lot of attention — and reacting with their wallets. Right now, for example, Russell Westbrook is getting so much attention as he almost singlehandedly leads his Thunder into the playoffs by impersonating a different superhero every night. The media is covering the heck out of the story, and the public is noticing — and betting heavily on Oklahoma City whenever they can. That means that betting prices are often inflated for Oklahoma City and deflated for their opponent as a result. In these situations, bettors need to be able to assess how strong the teams are so they know if there is value on the less-popular team at their lower-than-otherwise-expected price or if the public favorite is still worth a bet despite the inflated price. DFS players can rely on their rankings and player evaluations (or DFSR's projection system) to get good insight here. In this example, DFS players will have a better sense than the average bettor of how Westbrook is performing from game to game and what can be expected from him next time out. They’ll also know what to expect from other key players on both teams. That can give them a strong sense of expected team performances — and give them a big edge in figuring out whether it is worth jumping on the bandwagon or throwing your money at the other side. Injury replacements: A game can change entirely just because of the injury of one player if that player is particularly impactful and if his replacement brings different things to the table. Public bettors tend to have a consistent reaction to all high-profile injuries right after they happen —...
