This year's Arnold Palmer Invitational will have a completely different feel than the 38 before it as the "King" himself will not be there to hand off the trophy on Sunday. It will be an emotional week for many as they are reminded of all the amazing things Arnold Palmer has done on, and most importantly, off the course. His gigantic smile may be gone but the Legacy of who Arnold Palmer was and what he meant to the game of golf will always live on! While only two Americans(Bubba Watson & Rickie Fowler) in the Top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking will be at Bay Hill this week, the field is still very strong. Five of the Top 10 players and 29 of the Top 50 have accepted their invites to honor the King and try and win the tournament. Before getting into the picks, let's take a look at the course. The Course Bay Hill Club & Lodge - Orlando, FL Par 72 - 7,419 Yards Greens - Bermuda *Click to enlarge* Bay Hill is a Par 72 setup that stretches 7,419 yards through tree lined fairways with a heavy presence of water and sand. Valspar Championship After a little trip across the wall....I mean border, the PGA Tour returns to the Florida swing for the 2017 Valspar Championship. After a very strong field that included 49 of the Top 50 in the world in Mexico, we aren't nearly as fortunate this week as we have just two of the Top 10 with Justin Thomas(#7) and Henrik Stenson(#6). Three more inside the Top 20 including Patrick Reed(#12), Bubba Watson(#16) and Matt Kuchar(#20) and just 15 of the Top 50 in the world. This means we are going to see a ton of golfers who will come with much higher salaries than their season average. Before getting into the picks let's take a look at the course and key stats. The Course Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead Course) Par 71 - 7,340 Yards Greens - Bermuda *Click to enlarge* The Copperhead course is considered one of the toughest tests in golf outside the Majors and the scorecard doesn't quite tell the entire story. The first thing we notice is that Copperhead is unique with five Par 3's and all five come in at 195 yards or greater. Take...

WGC Mexico Championship This week 77 invited players head South of the border for the World Golf Championship Mexico Championship. You may not recognize the name as it will be the first time since 2006 that the first WGC event of the calendar year won't be held at the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral. Could it be more ironic that the event was moved from one of POTUS, Donald Trump's most famous courses to Mexico? How many times do you think he or the Blue Monster will be mentioned this week? I am taking bets all week. All political talk aside, we have a very interesting tournament to break down. First of all, we get an elite field that includes 49 of the world's Top 50 players. Jason Day withdrew early in the week. It will be Dustin Johnson's first start defending the #1 spot in the World Golf Rankings and it appears the trend of the elite players winning will continue this week. Since rookie John Rahm won the Farmers Insurance Open back at the end of January, we have seen wins from world #4 Hideki Matsuyama, #6 Jordan Spieth, now #1 Dustin Johson and #9 Rickie Fowler who won the Honda Classic this past weekend. The most interesting part about this week WGC event is the course which will...

The Honda Classic The PGA Tour shifts coasts and heads East to the State of Florida where three of the next four tournaments will be played. It starts with the Honda Classic this week hosted at the PGA National from Palm Beach Gardens. Ask most of the field if they are excited to switch from the bumpy POA greens in Cali to the grainy Bermuda greens in Florida and YES will be a popular answer. Before getting into the stats, let's take a look at the course. The Course PGA National(Champion) - Palm Beach Gardens, FL Par 70 - 7,140 Yards Greens - Bermuda Grass *Click to enlarge* The Stats After a few weeks of targeting bombers fairly heavily, we get a course that is, for the most part, "less than driver" off the tee which is going to put a ton of emphasis on accuracy, both off the tee and approaching the green. Looking back at the full field results from the previous three years there were three stats(season long ranks) that really stood out and were correlated each year. Guys that ranked high in Strokes Gained Approach, Par 4 Scoring and Bogey Avoidance seem to have the most success. When looking at the correlations it will always be subjective as the correlations are comparing season long stats and we all know...

If you are looking for a breakdown of last week's tournament, be sure to check out Chris's BLOG where he shares insight from his trends sheet. Let's get into the tournament at hand. Genesis Open Congratulations! That is for all of you who made it through the first quarter of the PGA Tour season(including wrap-around portion). We have seen a little bit of everything so far like Justin Thomas winning three times including a Hawaii sweep. We also saw two rookies(Cody Gribble & John Rahm) get their first wins, a 23-year veteran(Rod Pampling) get his first win in 11 years and two other players (Pat Perez & Brendan Steele) getting their first wins in 5+ years. And most recently, we have seen the #5(Hideki Matsuyama) and #6(Jordan Spieth) players in the world win the last two tournaments. Oh Canada! As a Canadian, I would be making a huge mistake not mentioning the plethora of talent coming from North of the border and their early 2017 success. It starts with Mackenzie Hughes who, in his rookie season, has already picked up his first win(RSM Classic) and has made eight of 10 cuts with two Top 10's and four Top 25's. Adam Hadwin came oh so close to his first career win in his third full season tour after becoming the first ever Canadian on Tour and only the 9th ever to shoot...
