Point Guard Kyle Lowry FD - $8700 DK - $8000 Opponent - DET Proj Pts FD - 40.47 DK - 43.54 The NBA has blessed us with a 4 game slate, with games starting 6 hours apart. We also don't have too many terrible defenses, so the match-ups aren't as good as usual. However, there are definitely some great ways to look tonight. Lowry leads us off at point guard, facing off with the Raptors in Toronto. The Pistons have been very lackluster against point guards, giving up 45 FanDuel points per game. Reggie Jackson will have trouble with the size of Lowry and could get into early foul trouble. Outside of Jackson, Lowry will see Ism Smith, who is one of the worst defending PG's in the league. Lowry has been one of the more consistent players in the NBA this season, and this match-up presents nothing that scares me. He should be in for another solid 38 minutes as long as the game stays close, which it is projected to. Lowry is the top point guard option in both cash games and tournaments, with a safe floor and a ceiling that can lead you to the top of a leaderboard. Ricky Rubio FD - $6600 DK - $6700 Opponent - CHI Proj Pts FD - 30.99 DK - 33.2 Rubio comes in as our mid-priced, safe option at PG. Rubio has been playing much better lately, and the loss of Zach LaVine could let some others pick up some minutes and shots. The Bulls are an absolute mess as of now, so we have no clue who will be covering him as of now. It could be MCW, Wade or Butler, yet we have no clue. We won't have to worry about Jimmy Butler, as Andrew Wiggins will be a much larger concern for him. The Bulls rank middle of the field against PG's and see no reason to be scared off tonight. Rubio has had a few rough games as of late, but was in some tough match-ups. Look for Rubio to bounce back here, and in a nice fashion. Rubio has a floor around 25 tonight with a ceiling over 40. He will be in a lot of my cash games and tournaments....

What We Know Dion Waiters has been ruled out This is a huge loss for the Heat, who need everyone they can get right now. They are on a 12 game winning streak and have a great chance to extend it against the Nets. James Johnson and Goran Dragic should see the biggest bumps, and I love both of them in all formats. Rodney McGruder could also see a bump, though I won't touch him outside of large field tournaments. Thaddeus Young has been ruled out vs the Wizards Thad has already missed a few games, and nobody has really taken advantage. Lavoy Allen had 1 good game, but 2 stinkers right after. I think it solidifies Turner's minutes, and makes him an elite cash game play. What We're Waiting to Know Zach Randolph is questionable to play against the Warriors Z-bo is a huge force for these Grizzlies, and one they really can't afford. Jamychal Green and Marc Gasol will pick up a few more minutes and shots. Both of them can be played against the Warriors. Jimmy Butler is officially questionable to play Pretty simple here. If Butler plays, the whole situation is pretty cloudy and uninteresting. If Butler is out, Wade is the guy who we have the most interest in. He should see a full allotment of minutes and has been great this year with Wade out. The "Every Lineup" Guys Paul Millsap Millsap may not be the most popular option tonight and that's a bonus. He comes in as the top guy at PF and should be in for a fantastic night against the Kings. The Kings have ranked bottom 10 against both centers and power forwards, and Millsap has done well against them in the past. The Hawks have been feeding Millsap on offense and has been producing. This game with the Kings figures to be played pretty fast, and will certainly be competitive. Some may worry about him...

Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 2/10/17 Coming off the Cavs' "The Big Guys are Sitting, no wait they're playing, no wait wait they're sitting, oh ok, they're all playing" debacle from last night, let's pray for some sanity on this big Friday in the NBA. Now’s your chance to get DFSR PRO, which will give you access to our NBA optimizer, our NFL Optimizer, and our new NFL player lab! Get started for free by clicking the button below. Point Guards John Wall FD - $10500 DK - $10400 Opponent - IND Proj Pts FD - 48.67 DK - 51.85 The Wiz have finally come around to the realization that their best path to victory each night is to play the starters insane minutes in an effort to ensure their putrid bench doesn’t see the light of day. It’s worked and they’ve won 13 of their last 15 games which also included a brutal overtime loss to the Cavs two games ago. Sure, the schedule’s been on the easier side but it also coincides with Wall and the rest of the starters getting a lion’s share of the run. He’s in another good matchup tonight against the Pacers who allow well above average assists to opposing point guards thanks in some part to ones getting easier to the rim around the perimeter defense. Wall’s getting expensive but his implied minutes and ability to score and dish give him a fantastic floor in what should be a close game. Jrue Holiday FD - $7900 DK - $7800 Opponent - MIN Proj Pts FD - 37.71 DK - 40.66 Though this is still very much Anthony Davis’ team, Holiday is second in usage among the starters and has dramatically increased his shots per game over the short term. Over his last five games he’s averaging close to 18 looks from the field and putting up a 22/6/6 line in that time. Those are borderline elite numbers especially when you add in some of his defensive stats. He isn’t coming cheap, but I do think the production is sustainable as the Pels continue to increase his minutes. The T-Wolves are a bottom third defensive efficiency squad though are about league average against the opposing point guard. Even with the price increase on Holiday I’m fine buying here as long as we trust the minutes and usage aren’t short term outliers. Goran Dragic FD - $8100 DK - $7900 Opponent - BKN Proj Pts FD - 37.93 DK -...

What We Know LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving will likely all rest This is obviously huge news. The Cavs were able to sign Derrick Williams to a 10-day contract, so they do have 9 active players. However, not many of them can do very much. Jordan McRae & Channing Frye are my 2 favorites, and they are both tremendous value plays. Channing Frye and Kay Felder also hold a lot of appeal, and I will have exposure in both cash games and tournaments. Tristan Thompson is also a very solid cash game option. Evan Turner is out 4-6 weeks Turner has been playing a solid 30 minutes for the Blazers, and this injury will definitely hurt. Maurice Harkless will join the starting lineup, and he has a lot of upside. He has played over 35 minutes in plenty of games this year and I would expect at least that many tonight. Harkless is a guy I will have exposure to in both cash games and tournaments. Al-Farouq Aminu could also gain a few minutes, and he is always a solid cash game option. Aaron Gordon has been ruled out against the 76ers Gordon was a guy on my radar as a top play tonight, and this news definitely saddened me. However, we definitely have somewhere to look. Jeff Green will pick up 30 minutes, and he will shoot plenty. This match-up is ideal, as the 76ers don't cover perimeter players very well. We will touch more on green in a bit. What We're Waiting to Know Eric Gordon is questionable to play Gordon is a guy who takes a lot of 3's off the bench for the Rockets and is a big part of their success. If Gordon misses this game, Sam Dekker and James Harden should benefit both. Dekker will see a much higher usage, and the minutes will be a lock. As for Harden, it will just give him a couple...
What makes a good NBA DFS “punt” or value play?
What makes a good NBA DFS "punt" or value play? If you've played NBA DFS for any stretch of time, you've undoubtedly been in the position of trying to evaluate what it means that some relatively unknown (or underplayed) player is joining the starting lineup. Sometimes this happens because a player gets injured, sometimes this happens because a player gets benched or traded, and sometimes it just happens due to a late scratch. But the feeling is the same - it's 20 minutes to lineup lock, and a cheap player is starting for the first time. How do we evaluate whether he's a good play or not? In DFS, players who are very cheap thanks to a big time recent change in opportunity are known as "punt" plays, and it's our job to figure out which of them are worth it, and which are worth passing on. This article will explain what our evaluation process is like when we determine which cheap plays are worth it, and which are worth passing on. Evaluating a player's track record Not all punts are created equally. Let's start our article with two seemingly similar, but very different situations. In January, the Bucks came out and said that Thon Maker was going to get his very first start thanks to Jabari Parker being benched to start the game for disciplinary reasons. Around the same time, in New Orleans, Anthony Davis had been ruled out thanks to (yet another) injury, and Terrence Jones was going to step into the starting line-up. We played Jones everywhere while ignoring the Maker news completely, and were handsomely rewarded. How did we know who was better, and who was worse? Let's dive into the process. Here's the quick set of questions we use to evaluate players when they seem to be moving into greater opportunity. 1) How has a player performed on a points-per-minute basis in the past? 2) How is this player currently used within the context of his team? 3) Do we know how he's performed when given the starting role in the past? 4) Does his team have a lot of other options if he gets off to a slow start? 5) How big a hole is being left by the player the punt is replacing? 6) Will the player's role change when he moves into the starting lineup? 7) Is the player even that cheap? 8) Who am I punting away from? Let's take a look at each of these examples to see what we mean. 1) How has a player performed on a points-per-minute basis in the past? Jones and Maker are very instructive for this example. Terrence Jones has averaged 23 fantasy...
