Cleveland Cavaliers at the Toronto Raptors Is it all over but the shouting? With Lowry "probably doubtful" (his words), it's looking like that's the case. The nice thing about elimination games is that it often at least gives us sanity on the losing side of the equation - you can bet that Toronto will leave their starters out there as long as things are remotely plausible. The Cavs also don't tend to rest guys unless things are absolutely out of hand, but this one might just get so out of wack that it's tough to say. Game 3 is our only reasonable proxy for what to expect here, so let's take a look at how that one shook out. With Lowry absent, Cory Joseph and DeMar DeRozan paid off their value going away while the rest of the team struggled. Norman Powell still looks like a reasonable value, even if his overall lack of impact per minute is a little uninspiring. I'm particularly perplexed by the play of Serge Ibaka. He went from being super-active and involved to doing his best Kyle Korver impersonation, netting just 2 boards and 0 assists in 35 minutes of play. It's hard to believe he'll duplicate such a sorry performance here, but he's always been a very swingy player on account of his temperament. And then there's Valanciunas. He drew the start and put up a 19 and 8, and is definitely in play at a fairly shallow position today. On the Cavs' side of the ball, LeBron remained god-tier in spite of the blowout, while the rest of the squad's performance suffered on account of reduced minutes. It's not hard to imagine this one getting out of hand as well, but on a short slate that features at least one other possible blowout game, I don't think you can ignore them altogether. Kyrie should still have an amazing match-up, for instance, and I wouldn't mind jamming him in there in any format. San Antonio Spurs at Houston Rockets Well we needed to wait until game 3, but we finally got a close game in the Spurs/Rockets series you guys! This...
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 5/5/17
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 5/5/17 These four teams have played four games so far in Round 2 of the playoff and all four games have been blowouts. That being said, one team is clearly in control while the other series remains somewhat of a mystery. We've got a lot to dive into here with this two game slate. Toronto Raptors at Cleveland Cavaliers Well, we are getting close to being able to put any of that “Cavs are in trouble” regular season narrative away. Sure, six playoff games don’t necessarily represent enough of a sample size to declare a team “fixed” but Cleveland only seems to be improving as the playoffs go on. They’ve won the first two games of this series against the Raptors rather easily (by 11 the first game and 22 the last time out). Lebron James continues to lead the way, averaging a 37/8/4/2/2 against Toronto so far. It’s damn impressive and as long as he’s playing close to 40 minutes even in blowouts, it’s tough to fade him for cash games. The Cavs continue to sharpshoot their way to victory from beyond the arc and hit more than 50% of their threes in Game 2. That’s tough to replicate, but they don’t even need to shoot that well to win. They are getting tons of open looks with Toronto slow to rotate. Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving make for excellent plays though fitting them in with Lebron and Kawhi is tough. I’d prefer Love if forced to choose between the two only because power forward is such a disaster of a position. Tristan Thompson has been fantastic at his price on FanDuel and makes for a solid middle tier option again here tonight. He’s been solid on the boards per minute both games in the series. The Raptors made a starting lineup switch last game, replacing Demarre Carroll and Jonas Valanciunas with Norman Powell and Patrick Patterson. It didn’t work, though from a fantasy perspective Powell at least came close to paying his salaries. Who knows what the Raptors plan to do tonight. They don’t really have many options that are going to work here. I suppose they could make another starting lineup change but it could be akin to shuffling around deck chairs on the Titanic....
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 5/4/17
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 5/4/17 Two number one seeds seem to have found their stride, but what does that mean for DFS purposes? Can we concern ourselves with potential blowouts? What's going on with the minutes in the Golden State/Utah game given the game 1 weirdness? Let's dive in and have a look. Boston Celtics at the Washington Wizards The Celtics took a 2-0 lead on the back of a back-breaking overtime win in game 2, and are heavy favorites to continue with the same plan for game 3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and all. The primary concern in Boston is of course Avery Bradley's healthy. He headed to the locker room for a few minutes in game 2, but ultimately returned and wound up clocking 35 minutes. Since that's just a hair under what we'd expect from him in a normal game, I don't think there's much to worry about for game 3. He's technically a game time decision, but said he was going to play on Wednesday, so he looks like a great value here. The big story from game 2 was the point guard play, with Thomas and Wall going off for 140 fantasy points between the two of them. It's interesting, they've both put up nearly identical fantasy point lines in games 1 and 2, and both are looking pretty viable from a fantasy perspective. You get Thomas at a significant discount to Wall, so I'd probably grab him if I were forced to choose between the two, but I really wouldn't mind just playing both. After those two, most of the starting line-ups should be in play here. Gortat and Porter were both solid for the Wiz last game, but Beal's no-show in 47 minutes was fairly concerning. He was decent in game 1, though, so I'm not too worried about playing him if his is the amount of salary you wind up having left over. Boston's "flex spot" looks to be pretty volatile right now, with Amir Johnson and Gerald Green taking turns landing in the starting lineup and summarily playing no minutes and providing no production. Marcus Smart looks like a fairly unexciting high floor option, but keep in mind he likely played extra minutes in game 2 thanks to Bradley's brief...
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 5/3/17
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 5/3/17 It's another two game slate in the NBA following blowouts from the Cavs and Rockets respectively in the first games of these series. Toronto Raptors at Cleveland Cavaliers Well, the Cavs came to play in this series huh? While the final score only had Cleveland winning by 11, this game never really felt all that close. They commanded the game through the three ball, jacking up 34 attempts and shooting 41% from beyond the arc. This the Cleveland team many were waiting for during the regular season and they’ve now won five straight to start the playoffs. But of course the real story here is Lebron. He was dominant in this game, controlling all of the action and basically doing as he pleased on the offensive end. The Raptors had no way to even create a speed bump for the guy as he finished with a 35/10/4 line and his presence opened up all kinds of open looks around the perimeter. One game does not a series make, but the Cavs came out guns blazing and the Raptors have to be a little worried about their ability to stop James. Another positive sign was Lebron shooting 7-8 from the line, his one weakness during the regular season. It wasn’t only Lebron though as Kyrie Irving posted a fantastic 24/10 line with a the assists coming somewhat out of nowhere. For a point guard he isn’t exactly a distributor so I wouldn’t expect those numbers to continue though it is a positive sign. The Raptors got a solid fantasy performance from Kyle Lowry and he should be able to continue exploiting the weaker point of the Cavs D in Irving. I still like the former’s minutes floor and he makes for a solid upside DFS play at his prices. Dear Derozan struggled to find the mid range game with the Caves locking up that part of the court knowing he wouldn’t challenge them from beyond the arc. I wouldn’t be surprised with a bounce back (to some degree) from him but the Cavs clearly had a plan with him on the defensive end. They’ll clearly live with only 16 shots per game from DDR. PJ Tucker had a ridiculous 13/11 game that could make him a popular play...
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 5/1/17
Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 5/1/17 Alright! Most of the fake teams are gone, and the real teams are playing against each other. Three heavyweight teams square off today, and Toronto will be playing as well. I kid, Canadian contingent. All of these teams have pretty much shown what their plan is, but how will it come together against new opponents? Let's have a look. Toronto Raptors at the Cleveland Cavaliers Projected total: 208.5 Cleveland favored by -6.5 The Raptors escaped something of a nail-biter against the Bucks, and LeBron went ahead and won his 21st straight 1st round game. Reputations aside, though, Vegas sees this as a relatively even series, with the Cavs being slightly favored after you account for home court advantage. This series rates to be similarly paced to each of the team's last series, with the Cavs playing a bit faster than the Bucks, but the Raptors playing a bit slower than the Pacers. So how do these teams match up individually? Let's start with the Cavs, since they are playing basically the same line-up that they have all season. LeBron James has averaged a 28/10/8 in 4 games against the Raptors this season, and that's great and all, but he's now almost $13,000 on FanDuel. Like, what the heck? I'm not sure that's viable. Love and Kyrie look a little bit better to me, though. Love averaged 22/12 in 3 games against the Raptors, but they'll be a little bit stiffer competition with Ibaka down there. Still, I think he's in a good spot. I'm also pretty interested in Kyrie here. He clocked a 25/4/6 in his 3 games with the Raptors, and with Kyle Lowry treating his back during games I'm feeling pretty optimistic about his prospects here. I think you can consider Tristan Thompson based on round 1's minutes, but I'm not super excited. JR Smith is passable filler, but with his minutes in flux it's not something I'd feel great about. Now let's talk Toronto. I don't think I like Lowry very much based on his round 1 performance and his questionable health, but I'm honestly not sure how much better some of the other options on Houston and San Antonio will be. It's a great match-up with Kyrie, but Lowry didn't exactly light the...
