DFS NBA Talk - Cash Game Plays for FanDuel and DraftKings 10/18/17 DFSR’ Doug Norrie and James Davis take to the first NBA podcast of the year discussing a huge Wednesday in basketball. Coming off a crazy first night of action that saw a brutal Gordon Hayward injury and a near buzzer-beater by Kevin Durant, tonight shapes up well with a lot of interesting matchups and some speculation about players on new teams. Some of the big money guys they focus in on are Damian Lillard playing without C.J. McCollum, James Harden possibly running without Chris Paul, Giannis now qualifying at PF on FD and Rudy Gobert a big beneficiary of the new FD defensive scoring. All of this much more including punt plays, mid-tier guys and a look at some of the off-season player movement. Subscribe to this podcast on...

Daily Fantasy NBA Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 10/18/17 Well, the first night of NBA action was marred by a brutal injury to Gordon Hayward in the opening minutes of the first game of the year. It was brutal and quick reminder that these are still humans playing a game. That can be forgotten sometimes when playing DFS, rooting for the accrual of stats and sweating your lineups. It's a game first and foremost. The second night of NBA kicks off with our first big slate of games. It was an off-season full of upheaval and we'll find out a great about teams after just one game. Point guard Damian Lillard FD - $8800 DK - $10400 Opponent - PHO Proj Pts FD - 48.91 DK - 51.02 With C.J. McCollum serving a one-game suspension to start the season this could be the Lillard show against the Suns who ran at the second-fastest pace and third-worst defensive efficiency last season. This is a dream matchup for Lillard who sees his usage jump from 27 to 34 with CJ off the court last season (per NBAWowy). There is a lot of savings to be had at some of the other positions (there is at PG as well) but Lillard as a possible one-man-band looks great in this matchup. He’s priced efficiently on both sites and could be a popular play as more DFS folks get sharp on implied usage bumps in situations just like this one. He’s coming off his best scoring season (27 points per game) as he got to the line the most in his career (7.3 FTA per game) and stuck to his career average of 37% from behind the arc. Dennis Smith Jr. FD - $4300 DK - $6800 Opponent - ATL Proj Pts FD - 33.11 DK - 33.76 I know he hasn’t played in an actual regular season NBA game yet, but it sure looks like the Mavs got a steal getting Smith with the 9th pick in the draft. Smith will take over the starting point guard duty for the Mavs who were desperate for any kind of playmaker last season. They were the kings of getting into half-court sets and waiting patiently for a Harrison Barnes post move. It was brutal. But Smith adds a...

Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 10/17/17 Can you even believe it? It seems like almost yesterday we were watching the Warriors finalize their relatively inevitable championship run and dispatching the Cavs in the finals. And then the NBA offseason happened. What an offseason it was; with more franchise-changing moves than we’re likely to ever see again in a three-month span. It was nuts. More than 50% of teams saw, what I would call, “major” overhauls to their starting lineups either through mass player movement or the addition/ subtraction of an NBA star (some teams had both). It’s a nuts way to start the season and will make this early season of basketball one of the more (if not most) interesting in recent memory. We start the year with an intriguing two-game slate featuring an Eastern Conference Finals rematch* between the Cavs and Celtics and a tilt between the champion Warriors and Chris Paul-added Rockets. *Term used incredibly loosely here as these two teams are like 70% different in their starting lineups from when they squared off last May. Point guard Kyrie Irving FD - $8200 DK - $8300 Opponent - CLE Proj Pts FD - 39.51 DK - 42.06 Great price + great player + great narrative = this Flat Earth truther. Irving heads to the Celtics in what most season’s would have been the biggest offseason move by a wide margin. This year it rated as merely “top news.” He looks to take over a major scoring role for a completely revamped Celtics team returning only one starter from last season (Horford). Irving average a 25/6/3 line in 2017 on 19 shots per game. You know who put up 19 shots per game for the Celts last season? Thomas, who Irving effectively replaces. This seems like a standard baseline for the latter’s usage. The assists have never come in great numbers for Irving and even with the change of scenery I doubt they spike now. But the scoring is elite and his FanDuel price is right in the cash game zone of value. It’s a little closer on DraftKings where he’s priced in line with Curry and CP3. Oh and he’s going to see a steady helping of Derrick Rose “defense”. Derrick Rose FD - $5500 DK...

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Chris Sale FD 11600 DK 13200 Opponent - BAL (Miley) Park - @BAL FD - 43.13 DK - 28.4 For the first time in a couple days, we have a full slate with a few different very solid choices at starting pitchers. I do think there's a clear top 2 (Sale, Ray), but the price difference on a few other guys is enough to consider. Between Robbie Ray and Chris Sale, we slight went Sale. Ray is definitely a solid option and you'll catch him in the pitcher's article for sure. As for Sale, the Red Sox are just 3 games ahead of the Yankees and are surely willing to toss Sale for as long as he can go, especially after an extra inning game where the bullpen was used a ton. The Orioles are definitely a powerful offense, but they strikeout almost 26% of the time and are substantially worse against left-handed pitching. Chris Sale is obviously one of the best pitchers in baseball and the 12+ K/ solidifies his upside. You can whichever way you want, but Sale gets the slight edge here.  Brad Peacock FD 8600 DK 9800 Opponent - CHW (Shields) Park - @HOU FD - 39.89 DK - 26.18 It's definitely enticing to just pay up for the safest arm on the slate and move on. You can do that. Sale is fairly priced around the industry and you definitely can make him work. However, there's also some expensive bats, so a Discount could also help. Looking at Brad Peacock, he has been a very consistent righty with solid splits and great peripherals. He will surely go at least 6 or 7 innings and he should get an easy win with James Shields on the other side. The White Sox are one of the worst teams in the league against righties with a 25% strikeout rate and 31% hard contact. He may not have the type of upside that Sale has, but the safety is there and the price much lower. I'm a fan in all formats.  Early - Luis Severino, Tyler Chatwood Catcher Brian McCann FD 2700 DK 3400 Opponent - CHW (Shields) Park - @HOU FD - 10.19 DK - 7.57 If you've been...

We've got you completely covered.   Pitcher Chris Sale FD 11500 DK 14100 Opponent - NYY (Sabathia) Park - @BOS FD - 43.32 DK - 28.61 Let's get right to Stephen Strasburg. We saw the dumpster fire that was the Nationals scratching Scherzer after lock yesterday and I can't say I'm excited for this one. Strasburg has been questionable all week and Dusty Baker said "we'll see". With how things go with this organization, I'm definitely not comfortable with him in my cash games. Fortunately, we have some great pivots. Chris Sale is going to be super expensive, but you know what you're getting. He's arguably the best pitcher in the league this year and he has a pretty solid matchup with the Yankees. They hold just a .305 wOBA against lefties and strikeout nearly 23% of the time. They're worse on the road and have been coming down to earth in recent weeks. Sale is an easy cash game option and one you have to strongly consider in tournaments as well. It just comes down how much salary you're willing to sacrifice for a safe pitcher. Jerad Eickhoff FD 7400 DK 7900 Opponent - SF (Blach) Park - @SF FD - 26.67 DK - 17.72 If you do want to pay down a bit, Jerad Eickhoff makes a lot of sense. While he doesn't have a ton of upside, this is one of the safest match-ups he has seen all year. As we know, the Giants are dead last against righties with a .291 wOBA they only have 2 or 3 hitters that intimidate righties and even they struggle to produce in the spacious AT&T Park. Eickhoff has struggled against lefties on the season, though a .342 BABIP indicates he's been getting a bit unlucky. He's dominant against righties and strikes them out at a 9 per 9 innings clip. Expect Eickhoff to be one of the more popular pay-down options on the slate and rightfully so. Good pitcher. Horrible team. Great ballpark. The pieces are there and as long as Eickhoff can come out with his regular weapons he'll be fine. Catcher Robinson Chirinos FD 2900 DK 3700 Opponent - CHW (Holland) Park - @TEX FD - 12.09 DK - 9.22 We're going to be on these...
