The field got a little weaker on Monday with Bryson DeChambeau dropping out with wrist soreness. With that, the field is led by last week's winner Cameron Smith who joined a shortlist of players who have won both Hawaii events(Furyk, Els, Singh, ZJ, JT) and also broke into the OWGR Top 10 for the first time in his young career. The host course, as it has been since the inaugural event back in 1971, is Waialae Country Club. It will be a much different test than last week in that we move from a Par 73 with wide fairways and some of the largest greens on Tour to a Par 70 with tight fairways that include several doglegs and average-sized greens. It's very much a positioning style golf course and for that I will rely heavily on Strokes Gained: Ball Striking in my model. The second stat I will be looking at in my model this week is Par 4 scoring which becomes a focus on a Par 70 with just two Par 5's. Looking at last year, it also had an extremely high correlation to success. Finally, the other main stat in my model is Birdie or Better % as the winning score has averaged right around -20 which even includes the very windy 2020 event in which Cameron Smith won. Point Guard Dejounte Murray FD - $10400 DK - $9700 Opponent - NY Proj Pts FD - 49.54 DK - 52.33 Starting things off with targeting the game with the lowest total on the slate isn't something I normally do but Murray has just been too good to ignore. Since putting up a dud against the Nuggets in early December, he has been explosive tallying three triple-doubles while averaging 18 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 10.9 assists which has been good for 52.2 DK/51.1 FD points per game. This includes three straight games with 50+ fantasy points after returning from a five-game covid absence. While the game has a projected low total, the Knicks are still a slightly advantageous matchup ranking 19th in defensive efficiency so I will have a ton of exposure to Murray in all formats. Anfernee Simons FD - $7300 DK - $6400 Opponent - BKN Proj Pts FD - 35.94 DK - 40.27 The price on FanDuel has caught up to the opportunity Simons has been getting with Lillard and McCollum injuries but it is a completely different story on DraftKings where he is still sitting in the mid $6K range. Simons has also really elevated his game recently taking at least 15 shots in each of his last four games while shooting 54% from the field and averaging 45.8 DK/42.4 FD points per game. On Monday, Normal Powell will also be out for a second straight game so even in a projected blowout, Simons should get enough run to easily hit and possibly even crush his price, at least on DraftKings. Also Consider: Seth Curry(PHI) as the 76ers are very short-handed at the guard position with Simmons, Maxey, and Milton all out Shooting Guard Terry Rozier FD - $7300 DK - $7100 Opponent - MIL Proj Pts FD - 31.8 DK - 34.21 This is a game we are going to want a ton of exposure to as it easily has the highest total(235) on the slate with both teams ranking Top 10 in offensive efficiency and pace. FanDuel NBA Picks and DraftKings NBA Picks - Sunday, 1/9/21 These NBA slates have been crazy. The COVID protocols have made things challenging over recent weeks, but it feels like that trend is finally starting to die down. What's not dying down are the injuries, though. We have several star players likely sitting here, which is a significant theme in this article. There's a lot to discuss, though, so let's kick things off with two backup point guards stepping into starting roles. Point Guard Anfernee Simons FD - $7500 DK - $6500 Opponent - SAC Proj Pts FD - 35.47 DK - 37.87 Simons has always been a talented player, and it's nice to finally see him getting a starting gig. It's taken a disastrous turn for Portland to put him in this situation, though, with Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum both out for the foreseeable future. That's about 50 percent of the team's offense out the door, and Simons is happy to take on most of it. With those two guys off the floor, Anfernee has a 25 percent usage rate, posting some of the best lines of his career. In fact, ANT is averaging 46 DraftKings points per game across his last three outings. That makes him really attractive here, with Sacramento surrendering the second-most fantasy points to opposing point guards this season. Tyus Jones FD - $4900 DK - $4200 Opponent - LAL Proj Pts FD - 30.69 DK - 30.73 It's sad that we're going to miss out on a Ja Morant game because that dude is the most exciting player in the NBA, but Jones isn't too bad himself. He's actually been excellent when starting for Morant, scoring at least 22 DraftKings points in 10 of his 12 starts this season, en route to a 29-point average. Those are absurd numbers from a sub-$5K player, especially since Jones has the best assist-to-turnover rate in the NBA as well. That ability becomes even more attractive in a matchup like this, with Los Angeles ranked second in pace and 24th in total defense. They also own a 30th OPRK against opposing point guards, making Jones all the more enticing. If Luka Doncic is out, don't forget about Jalen Brunson. ...

Point Guard/ Shooting Guard LaMelo Ball FD - $8600 DK - $9500Opponent - MILProj Pts FD - 43.17 DK - 46.93 This isn’t a great matchup against the Bucks, but the game as a high total (233) and a thin spread (CHA -0.5). LaMelo, on a per minute basis is one of the better fantasy options in the league. It’s just the minutes that are sometimes an issue with the Hornets seemingly unwilling to run him more than 33-34 minutes a game even when things are going well. That being said, the Bucks are without their best point of attack defender in Jrue Holiday and it’s easy to like the implied pace of this game. He’s struggled from the field of late, which has only brought the price down some. That’s good news for us consider we can take advantage of the value. Cade Cunningham FD - $6700 DK - $8300Opponent - ORLProj Pts FD - 37.16 DK - 40.7 The Pistons are pretty much a dumpster fire, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still extract some value from their lineup. Cade Cunningham is the obvious first choice and he’s still coming way too cheap on FanDuel specifically. He’s one of the few Detroit guys who actually is moderately safe with the minutes He leads the team in usage when he is on the court, and is taking about 15 shots per game, a number that’s steadily ticked up over the course of the season. He isn’t all that efficient yet, but does make up for it with volume and also by contributing in rebounds (six per game) and assists (5.4 per game). Orlando ranks 25th in defensive efficiency this season and Cade has a higher floor in this matchup. Notes on the other guys at these positions: As has been the case lately, it’s tough to make solid determinations about rotations this early in the day because Covid protocols and injuries have really thrown things into flux. Point Guard Jalen Brunson FD - $5300 DK - $7000Opponent - HOUProj Pts FD - 31.3 DK - 33.61 Brunson will likely be one of the most popular plays on the slate and could see ownership near 100% on FanDuel considering the price is not adjusted at all for the opportunity. That’s because Luka Doncic is going to sit this one out with an injury. We’ve seen Brunson’s production when he is the primary ball-handler and creator in the Dallas offense. And it’s pretty damn good. He has a 26% usage rate with Doncic off the court this season with the assists and rebounds getting ticks up as well. Plus, Kristaps Porzingis is sitting this one out as well, leaving full control of the offense to Brunson. James Harden FD - $10400 DK - $10600Opponent - MILProj Pts FD - 53.71 DK - 58.88 It’s been an up and down season for Harden thus far with the superstar guard looking out of shape coming into the year, but turning it on in recent weeks when the team was a bit shorthanded. Considering Kyrie Irving isn’t in the lineup for this one and the price has dropped some, I think we can roll with Harden even in a tough matchup against the Bucks who do provide some defensive resistance. But Harden is averaging nearly a triple-double over the last six or so games and should see a lot of minutes as long as this one stays close. I think the floor is well high enough for cash games. FanDuel got there on the price but DraftKings didn’t for Anfernee Simons (FD 7500 DK 6200) who should, once again, take a ton of usage in the Portland offense with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum on the shelf. Shooting Guard Will Barton FD - $6400 DK - $5800Opponent - SACProj Pts FD - 34.83 DK - 38.02 Barton can be a bit hit or miss depending on how the Denver offense is flowing in certain games which can make him a riskier cash game play. But that’s somewhat built into his pricing at this point and he’s sitting in the lower middle tier because of it....
