Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 82 – 2/6/16
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 82 - 2/6/16 Editor's Note: Welcome MMA contributor Shaun Ihasz. Give him a follow on Twitter @ShaunEyeHas Fantasy MMA is active for a second straight week! Our picks are here just in time for Ryan Bader to read them – assuming he’s woken up from the nap he took on Saturday thanks to Rumble Johnson. Anyway, UFC Fight Night 82 was supposed to be a PPV (UFC 196) but injuries have changed the card more times than we can count. What’s left is a Fox Sports 1 event with massive favorites and from a DFS perspective, very limited value plays. This intro has already lasted longer than the Johnson/Bader main event so let’s just get down to business. Playing other daily fantasy sports like NBA or NHL. Click here to sign up Vegas Favorites ($10,500+) Misha Cirkunov ($11,000) The biggest favorite (almost -875 at time of writing!) and most expensive fighter available is a must-play. It’s simple really, Cirkunov consistently hits the jackpot for DFS players, first-round finishes. In his last five fights, the Lativan has stopped all of his opponents inside of five minutes. Better yet, he’s fighting Alex Nicholson, a kid making his UFC debut with no experience fighting anywhere other than Florida or Georgia. I can smell a first round TKO, the only downside is Cirkunov will probably be the highest owned fighter in any format. Play him or you will probably be starting in a hole. Ovince St. Preux ($10,700) I love watching “OSP” fight and just like Cirkunov he has a habit of finishing people. The Knoxville MMA product is 5-2 in his last seven fights with, you guessed it, all of those wins coming via stoppage. Those two losses were to Glover Texiera and the still groggy Ryan Bader, who in all seriousness are two of the top guys in the LHW division. St. Preux steps into the cage with Rafael Cavalcante, 1-3 in his last four fights and a guy whose ranking of #13 at Light Heavyweight is as rational as an Ozzy Osbourne sentence. Caution: I’m staying away from Joseph Benavidez. Yes, his only two losses are against the (IMO) best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet in Demetrious Johnson. But, it’s a flyweight fight and Benavidez fits the stereotype of the division – fast action, no finishes. He should win, but I don’t like the fantasy value for his $10,800 salary. Mid-Range Targets ($9,000-$10,400) Derrick Lewis ($9,700) This is where things get dicey. “The...
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC 192 – 10/3/15
Daily Fantasy UFC Picks for UFC 192 - 10/3/15 Houston, Texas, will play host to UFC 192 this weekend. There are some big fights scheduled for Saturday, and a lot of smaller ones, too. If you are a fantasy MMA fan, there are some good opportunities to take advantage of when you are drafting your daily fantasy MMA rosters. Here, we will look at a few of the main fights that you should be considering for your roster, and let you know what you should be looking at before you make any sort of decision. Here is our daily fantasy analysis of three of the top fights on the card, plus your best value pick of the night. Daniel Cormier v. Alexander Gustafsson This is the headline fight of the night for sure, but the favorite isn’t quite as clear as it might seem. Daniel Cormier seems to be the consensus, and DraftKings agrees with this. They’ve priced him at $11,000, and Gustafsson is just $8,400. The main reason for this is that Gustafsson lost his most recent fight in the first round by KO/TKO. That was back in January against Anthony Johnson. A few months later, in May, Cormier also fought Johnson, but won in a third round submission. Cormier definitely has the edge here because of this, but Cormier isn’t scoring as many fantasy points each fight as Gustafsson is. However, even if this is a lower scoring match, Cormier is the favorite and going with Gustafsson isn’t the right choice even if he has more points per match historically. Whether or not Cormier will approach his average of 71.5 points per match will remain to be seen, but he’s the favorite for a reason here. Ruslan Magomedov v. Shawn Jordan These types of fights are great on your roster because both fighters are below the $10,000 average that DraftKings uses as the cutoff for a favorite. Because both are below this number, the fighters are very close in talent and there’s no clear favorite, but this doesn’t need to work against you. The opportunity is worthwhile because even if you’re wrong in who you think will win, you are still getting a good value from the fighter. Jordan is the fighter with the highest fantasy point average per past fight at 67.4 according to certain fantasy sites. Compare this to Magomedov’s 55.0 and Jordan is the clear choice. Jordan is slightly cheaper at $9,500, but even if Magomedov is slightly favored at $9,900, Jordan is still the better choice as the dollar values are close enough that the extra point potential far outweighs the $400 difference. Julianna Pena v. Jessica Eye Women’s MMA is a popular...
UFC 191 Fantasy Picks
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC 191 This week we've got Rich from Win Daily Fantasy here to give you some MMA picks for Sunday's events. UFC 191 will not be one of the biggest cards for the MMA, but it still looks to be an exciting one. There are a couple big fights set for Sunday, August 23rd, and lots of little ones that could go either way. It’s those smaller matches where you will find the most value for your daily fantasy sports leagues as there is less mainstream info out there to help the public form their opinions. Let’s start by looking at the two biggest fights scheduled for the night, pick a winner, and then highlight a couple where there’s some big opportunity to upset the competition in your fantasy leagues. Max Holloway v. Charles Oliveira Holloway is the favorite here. He’s priced at $10,600 at DraftKings, while Oliveira is at $8,800. There’s a 17.5 fantasy point differential between the two, but Oliveira has had some pretty convincing victories recently. A lot of Holloway’s value comes from the fact that he had a first round victory 3 fights ago, and this has boosted his fantasy point status a lot. This is a fight that could go either way, and although Holloway is the favorite, it’s a little too close to tell at the big price difference here. One key strategy could be to take Oliveira for cheap and then hope, but that’s up to you. It seems to have positive expected value, but there is a risk involved if it backfires. Erick Silva v. Neil Magny Silva is the favorite at $10,400. Magny is priced at $9,000, which indicates that the experts aren’t quite as sure about the outcome of this match as they are the main event. That creates opportunity for fantasy players as Silva is a strong fighter, valued at cheaper because of the closer talent of Magny. His average fantasy point value seems low compared to his last 4 fights, too, where he has won them all in the first round except for one. He is a good value and a solid choice for your roster. Magny is a good fighter, but doesn’t have the same takedown speed as Silva, giving him a disadvantage. Now, let’s look at some of the undercard fights where you can clean up by outsmarting the competition. Marcos Rogerio de Lima v. Nikita Krylov Lima is the top fantasy point scorer in this match, has won both of his most recent fights in the first round, and is valued at under $10,000 ($9,900). Krylov had a first round loss a few fights ago, and seems like a...
