The Astros are favored to win the series, and lead game one 2-0 in the fifth inning as I write this. They'll look to capitalize on the home field advantage and head to New York with a 2-0 series lead by sending mid season acquisition Justin Verlander to the hill tonight against the Bronx bombers. Houston picked Verlander up from Detroit with a month to go in the season and he immediately paid dividends. Verlander closed out the season with the 'Stros going 5-0 allowing 4 earned runs in five Houston starts while striking out 43 in 34 innings pitched. Verlander started game one of the division series against Boston allowing two runs in six innings of work but only managed three K's and followed that up with 2.2 innings of relief work in game four on Monday. Verlander should be well rested and ready to go for tonight's matchup in the friendliest park for pitchers in the game. The price for Verlander on FanDuel gives me a moment of pause as he's the most expensive arm going, I find the sub 10K price tag on DraftKings much more appealing. Luis Severino FD 9500 DK 8700 Opponent - HOU (Verlander) Park - @HOU FD - 33.82 DK - 17.76 The Yankees will counter Verlander with 23 year old Luis Severino. Severino was stellar in his first full big league season, picking up 14 wins in 31 starts, while striking out 10.71 batters per 9 innings pitched, and finishing the season with a combined .265 wOBA allowed. Perhaps it was just a bad case of jitters that got to Severino in his first postseason start when the Twins took him for three runs on four hits and a walk in just .1 IP of the AL Wildcard contest. The Yanks were able to rally behind the pen and pull off the win and Severino received a chance at redemption...

Yes, I'm using the word "nice" pretty liberally. We have 4 solid pitchers and 4 good offenses, all in elimination games. Tanner Roark and the Nats are down 2-1 to the Cubbies, so this is win-or-go-home time. That does worry me a lot. First, the leash will be minuscule. The Nationals obviously can't afford to lose this game and you have to think the bullpen/Scherzer/Strasburg will be ready to come in early. The Cubs are also an elite offense and smash righties to a .328 wOBA at home. Roark has been uber consistent for about 2 years now, but he isn't shutdown. He's allowed a .331 combined wOBA and struggled more against lefties. This lineup has plenty and they can do more damage than most. I have no interest in Roark, but I get it if you want to pay up for every bat. He is a good pitcher and he could very well go 5 scoreless innings. I won't have my money on it, though. Jake Arrieta FD 8700 DK 7200 Opponent - WSH (Roark) Park - @CHC FD - 29.01 DK - 15.11 For most, I think Corey Kluber is the clear top option. While he is my number 1, even with price included, Arrieta isn't far behind. He's been a very solid pitcher this year, but ran into some bad luck early and let it follow him. He is also probably the best-rested pitcher left in the playoffs. He in on a 6 days rest and should have no problem reaching his velocity potential around 96. THe Nationals are obviously an elite offense and they can hit anyone. Arrieta has struggled against the lefty HR, so Harper and Murphy are a bit scary. However, the Nats strikeout 24% of the time against righties and have a lot of guys that are far better against lefties. I expect Arrieta to have a very solid game and I like him in both cash games and formats. Now with that being...

He's not that great of a pitcher and I expect the Astros to have him out of the game rather early. Their bullpen is rested for the most part and can afford a somewhat stretched game. We saw what the Red Sox can do just yesterday when they threw up 10 runs on Peacock and friends. Morton isn't nearly as good as Peacock, allowing a combined .336 wOBA on the road. He's also been far worse against righties, so a guy like Mookie Betts is surely worrisome. Look, it's the playoffs and Morton could go out and dominate for 5 innings. I just like my chances that he gives up a few early runs and is out of the game rather quickly. Rick Porcello FD 8200 DK 6700 Opponent - HOU (Morton) Park - @BOS FD - 23.64 DK - 11.89 Porcello is almost in the same boat as Morton,  but he is a tad bit better of a pitcher. On the season, Porcello has managed a .338 wOBA while struggling more to lefties. He has slowed, however, improving to a .311 wOBA in the 2nd half. Porcello is a talented pitcher, but he's never been anywhere near as good as people thought. The Astros offense has ranked 1st against righties on the year and have some intense power in Fenway Park. Porcello, like anyone on a 4-game slate, is a viable tournament option. It's tough to find guys low owned and you can be Porcello will be under 10%. Personally, I'll fully pass. I have a lot more interest in the bats here. Bats I'm expecting to see some runs in this one. After the Sox put up 10 last night, look for the 'Stros to respond against an average pitcher like Porcello. Because he does struggle a lot more against lefties, Josh Reddick stands out as an immediate cash game option. He should be hitting 2nd and is safe with plenty of upside. The usual suspects in...

We've got you completely covered.   Houston Astros @ Boston Red Sox Pitchers Brad Peacock FD 8600 DK 10200 Opponent - BOS (Fister) Park - @BOSFD - 30.47 DK - 20.29 Welcome back to playoff baseball! Per the usual, we dealt with some extremely unpredictable things yesterday.Bryce Harper went off in an L-L match-up and was severely low owned across the industry. However, there were some others things that made sense. Goldy and Contreras hit one out against a lefty. Everyone pitched well, and each offense showed some capability. Today, we have just 2 games. We start off with the Red Sox and Astros in Fenway Park. We'll start things off with Brad Peacock. The 'Stros are road favorites, so there has to be a bit of interest. The Red Sox have not been good in this series and there's a good chance they just lay down and die. They could also wake up at home and put a beating on anyone. Peacock wasn't a guy many had slated to be this good, but he's been close to elite all season long. Through 120 innings, he's allowed a .259 wOBA while striking out nearly 11.5 batters per 9 innings. He's also been just as good on the road as at home, so no worries there. This Red Sox order is obviously lethal, but it's not over-the-top in playoff terms. Peacock is a solid play in all formats, but like anyone in the playoffs, it's not without risk. Doug Fister FD 6600 DK 6900 Opponent - HOU (Peacock) Park - @BOSFD - 20.38 DK - 13.76 Doug Fister is not as good as any other pitcher on this slate. He's in a clear tier by himself and I have no interest. While he had a very solid 2nd half, he still allowed a .356 wOBA to lefties on the season. He faces off with an elite Astros order that has ranked 2nd against righties in wOBA. They have punched around Chris Sale and Pomeranz in the last 2 and will see a far worse arm in Fister. Additional to the struggles against lefties, he has been a lot worse in Fenway (.327 wOBA). I see no reason to target Fister here outside of some crazy large-field, low-dollar...

First up we have game two between the Cubs and Nationals in D.C. Chicago wanted to get Jon Lester out on the hill on full rest so they sent Kyle Hendricks out for game one of the series and a fresh armed Lester will toe the rubber this afternoon against the potent Nationals lineup. Both Lester and Gonzalez are rather evenly matched, and both can easily be exploited, that said I will look to the late contest for cash game pitching though if I wanted to shake things up in a GPP I would tend to give the slight edge to Lester. Despite his 4.33 ERA that he finished the season with, Lester sported a 3.85 xFIP which while not remarkable, was better than Gio's final mark. Lester averaged just under a K per inning this season. What I love the most about Lester, however, is the fact that he held left-handed hitters to a .237 wOBA this season which should help to keep Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy in check. Gio Gonzalez FD 8600 DK 8400 Opponent - CHC (Lester) Park - @WSH FD - 31.28 DK - 15.89 On the other side, we have Gio Gonzalez. The Nationals aren't ready to rush Max Scherzer out just yet so they're reserving him for game three, which completely changes the slate. With only two games, it's hard to imagine any one pitcher being extremely low owned or contrarian, but I personally will have extremely limited if any exposure to Gio. Which isn't to negate his capabilities or the season he had, he finished the season with the second-best ERA of the four pitchers going today, but also had the highest xFIP by nearly half a point. Gonzalez could very well come out and dazzle, I mean the Cubs are a power hitting team and are not above swinging and missing from time to time, they struck...
