Pitcher Max Scherzer FD 11800 DK 14000 Opponent - SF (Samardzija) Park - @WSHFD - 44.18 DK - 29.18 Looking at the Saturday pitcher pool on Friday night there are three standouts as clear favorites in the eyes of Vegas, and we will give each his due in this spot. We begin where we tend to every five days or so with Max Scherzer of the Nationals against the Giants in the Distrct of Columbia. What more is there to say about Mad Max? Pick any relevant pitching statistic and look at the top three and you will invariably see Scherzer listed right along with Sale and Kluber. Of course the price is hard to swallow and certainly forces us to look for bargain plays at nearly every offensive position, but in cash games it's hard to go wrong with Scherzer. Short of neck spasms, you can pretty much guarantee 6+ innings, a minimum of 8 K's and usually 3 earned runs at the most, when rostering Max and today he gets the added bonus of facing off with the Giants who have the worst team wOBA in baseball of .293. Scherzer is strictly a cash play between the price and the fact that as bad as the Giants may be, they do not K all too often but as cash plays go he leads the pack. So, now it seems Max was pushed to Sunday, $#@!$ weather! The next two guys remain top plays, and for a few more options check the starting pitcher spotlight here. Carlos Martinez FD 9200 DK 11200 Opponent - ATL (Sims) Park - @STLFD - 39.19 DK - 25.83 Next up, we have Carlos Martinez. Martinez and the Cardinals open as -250 home favorites against Atlanta. The Braves may not be the Giants, but they are a bottom five offense, particularly against right handed pitching where they sport a .307 team wOBA. Also like the Giants, Atlanta doesn't strike out often, only 19.6% of the time, again, hurting potential upside. At a significant discount compared to Scherzer however, I wouldn't rule Martinez out of a tournament line up though I do like him more as a cash game pivot, if there are pricier bats you just have to...

We've got you completely covered. Milwaukee Brewers You have a few different teams to stack on this slate and I think it'll make the ownership rates all that more interesting. My favorite of the bunch happens to be the Brewers, who are facing off with Bartolo Colon. Colon is not only one of the worst pitchers on the slate, but one of the worst in the league. He's allowed a .407 wOBA to righties and a .384 to lefties. He gives up a ton of homers and isn't nearly as good at holding runners as he once was. Colon also got super lucky last week, which could keep some folks off the Brewers. The Brewers aren't a very concentrated lineup, so you can go a lot of different ways. Travis Shaw and Eric Thames are the 2 obvious guys and they belong in every Brewers stack. After that, pick your poison. You have the Broxton, Pina, and Arcia at the bottom of the order with power and Santana/Braun as the more expensive, safe options. All in all, they're projected to put up over 5 runs and should be a bit too low owned. Don't be afraid to take a shot against Bartolo Colon. Main Stack - Eric Thames, Travis Shaw, Ryan Braun, Domingo Santana Sneaky Stack - Eric Thames, Travis Shaw, Hernan Perez, Keon Broxton Cincinnati Reds Travis Wood has been around a while, and in his prime, he was decent. He's now about 5 years past that and one of the worst starters in the game. As a southpaw, he has some of the worst numbers you can find against righties. In just over 40 innings, he's allowed a .363 wOBA on a .271 BABIP. He now moves from Petco Park to Great American, where the ball flies. I expect Wood to be out of the game by the 5th inning and for this terrible Padres bullpen to take over. Zack Cozart is my unquestioned favorite of the bunch, considering he's put up a .490 wOBA against righties. Eugenio Suarez and Adam Duvall are next, followed by Votto and Hamilton. The team...

Pitchers Kyle Hendricks FD 7500 DK 8600 Opponent - SF (Bumgarner) Park - @SF FD - 31.21 DK - 20.56 If you're playing on this early slate, it's either Madison Bumgarner or Kyle Hendricks. I prefer Hendricks. The Giants are the absolute worst team in baseball against righties and it's not too close. They have sported a .291 wOBA and strikeout at a normal 20% rate. They are absolutely pitiful against right-handers and Hendricks is a good enough pitcher to dominate. On the year, he's held a .299 combined wOBA and has struck out nearly 8 K/9. The match-up sets up perfectly and don't forget, it's in AT&T Park. It's ranked dead last for HR factor in each of the last 2 years and is a park that limits runs like crazy. Hendricks is extremely fairly priced and on this early slate, there are some bats to pay up for. Hendricks is a solid play in both formats and will be lesser owner than Bumgarner. Collin McHugh FD 8300 DK 8800 Opponent - CHW (Gonzalez) Park - @CHW FD - 31.37 DK - 20.74 Look, pitching on this main slate is very ugly. There is no other way to put it. Alex Wood is our top option in Chase Field and it only gets worse from there. Let's take a look at Collin McHugh, who's facing off with the White Sox. It's the only reason he's really in play. Projected at just 3.98 runs, the White Sox are by far one of the worst offenses in baseball. They rank 2nd to last ahead of just the Giants with a .302 wOBA. To make things worse, they strike out at a 23% clip. On the mound, McHugh is pretty tough to gauge. He typically struggles against lefties, but holds a higher K/9 against them. He handles righties pretty well and does do a great job of limiting the big innings. He will typically give you 6 or more innings and a quality start. The White Sox are atrocious and on a slate with no pitching, you might as well target the...

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Alex Wood FD 9500 DK 9700 Opponent - ARI (Greinke) Park - @ARI FD - 34.03 DK - 22.51 Pitching on this slate is far from great. There is a bunch of risk in every guy and I'm unwilling to categorize either of these guys as safe. At the top of the pricing structure, you have Greinke, Verlander, and Alex Wood. All 3 guys are in tough-ish match-ups, but Wood has the most upside and has the lowest price. He's holding both lefties and righties to a sub .260 wOBA while striking out over 9 batters per 9. This matchup with the Diamondbacks in Chase Field isn't a great one, but it's doable. The D-Backs have ranked 26th in baseball against lefties with a .296 wOBA and crazy 25.8% K rate. You obviously have to be wary of Goldy, Pollock, and J.D. Martinez, who can smash lefties. On a slate without much to do at pitching, Wood gives you the immense upside needed to take down a tourney. Either way, he's going to garner ownership and rightfully so. He has a strikeout floor that's undeniable and an upside that fits the bill. Rick Porcello FD 8000 DK 8200 Opponent - TB (Odorizzi) Park - @TB FD - 31.12 DK - 20.66 Like I said, pitcher is ugly. I certainly never thought I'd be rostering Rick Porcello. However, he's been pretty good and may be s but too cheap. Porcello has struggled with a .337 wOBA and it has a lot to do with the nearly identical .342 BABIP. Porcello is the same pitcher who won the Cy Young last year and while it's not one of the best arms in the book, he's a heavy favorite and almost certainly won't kill you. The match-up with the Rays is a pretty great one, as they K at a huge 24.9% rate. They do have some righty mashers and Porcello will have to avoid them. The price is great on Porcello and he lets you pay up for almost anyone you want. This is a very interesting slate and the difference could very well come at pitcher. Porcello is a cheap option that allows you have a unique lineup construction while maintaining the upside....

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Max Scherzer FD 11100 DK 12800 Opponent - MIA (O'Grady) Park - @WSH FD - 39.21 DK - 25.93 This is a slate where you want to pay up for pitcher. I guess you can consider paying down for the likes of Carlos Martinez or Brent Suter, but it's not optimal. Those guys are huge drops from the top 2 and I don't think it's affordable in cash games. Starting with Scherzer, he's the highest priced and the guy with the most upside. He left last week with neck spasms, but is said to be perfectly fine. Scherzer is one of the 3 best pitchers in baseball and he's proven it over and over again. So far in 2018, Mad Max has posted a .241 combined wOBA while striking out over 12 batters per 9 innings. It doesn't get much better than that. This match-up against the Marlins is a decent one and one that Scherzer has gone through. He's held his own in the past and should have a floor of 7 innings here. Jake Arrieta FD 9800 DK 11600 Opponent - SF (Moore) Park - @SF FD - 34.42 DK - 22.55 This is a very, very enticing match-up for Jake Arrieta. As we point out all the time, the Giants are absolutely atrocious at home against righties. They've held a league low .292 wOBA so far and have shown no signs of improving. AT&T Park is ginormous and this inept offense has a lot of trouble putting runs together. As for Arrieta, he's been better recently. After being up and down for the first part of the season, he looks to be turning into playoff mode. He's held a .301 combined wOBA and sees most of his troubles against left-handed power bats. He'll strike out at least 7 or 8 and should very well control the game. The Cubs face off with Matt Moore and hold a 5.40 implied run total, so the win shouldn't be an issue. All in all, you'll have to choose between Arrieta and Scherzer in cash games. I'm currently leaning Arrieta, but can see the argument(s) for both. Catcher Willson Contreras FD 3500 DK 4900 Opponent - SF (Moore) Park - @SF FD -...
