The American Express After an exciting Hawaii swing that saw both Justin Thomas(Tournament of Champions) and Cameron Smith(Sony Open) win in a playoff, the PGA Tour heads to La Quinta, California for The American Express. The event has taken on a new sponsor this year and you may be more familiar with one of its many former names(Desert Classic, CareerBuilder Challenge, Humana Challenge, and Bob Hope Classic). With the combination of this being a Pro-Am event and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the European Tour, we get a weaker field that includes just 11 of the Top 50 players in the world. With a large amount of players on the course due to the Pro-Am, this event is also a three-course rotation with each player/Amateur getting one round on each course(La Quinta Country Club, Nicklaus Tournament Course, Stadium Course). The cut of Top 65 and ties will be made after Saturday's third round with all players making the cut playing their final round on the host Stadium course. All three courses are Par 72 setups and while all three have consistently ranked outside the Top 30 in difficulty, the Stadium Course is the hardest of the three. Either way, I will be keeping my model fairly simple this week and concentrating more on the approach shots and iron play when breaking down the ball striking metrics and looking for players who excel on the Par 4's, especially from 400-450 yards. Par 5 scoring and overall birdie or better % will be weighted very high as well with an average winning score of -23 over the past five years. With the three-course rotation, we do have some interesting strategies we can employ for both tournament contests as well as the showdown contests. For starters, on the full week contests, I will be looking very closely at players who will be playing the Stadium course on Saturday giving them(if they make the cut) back to back rounds on the harder course which has shown to be advantageous in the past. Also, for Showdown contests try...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Sony Open
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Sony Open Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. As every week in DFS PGA changes with the course setup, field of players and weather, Chris will be providing a range of different picks for cash games as well as upside plays for tournaments. You can get access to the sheet in the member's chatroom. Sony Open After a very exciting start to 2020 with the Tournament of Champions, the PGA Tour now heads to North a bit to Waialae Country Club for the Sony Open and the first full-field event of the year. Overall, the field is on the weaker side with just 15 of the Top 50 players but is headlined by World #4 and former winner of this event, Justin Thomas and joining him is the defending winner, Matt Kuchar. Like it has since the tournament began back in 1965, Waialae Country Club will host this year's event. The course is a 7,044 yard Par 70 setup with four Par 3's, 12 Par 4's, and just two Par 5's. The fairways are smaller than average and with the combination of some doglegs, creates a lot less than driver strategies off the tee. Even with that strategy for most of the golfers, the average fairways hit over the last five years is under 55% which puts some emphasis on Rough Proximity as the average Greens in Regulation hit is still over 70% over the last five years. With the additional Par 4's and less Par 5's on this Par 70 track, I will be focusing on Par 4 scoring and Birdie or Better % with an average winning score around or lower than -20 every single year. The other thing to pay attention to here at Waialae is the weather as it is one of the biggest defenses. As of Tuesday morning, the pre-cut rounds on Thursday and Friday look to be the most brutal with steady winds over 30 mph both days. This has me looking very closely at players who play well in windy conditions and to do this I use the tools over at FantasyNationalGolfClub. With all that info, let's now take a look at the course, top stats, and dig into the picks. Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Sentry Tournament of Champions
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Sentry Tournament of Champions Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. As every week in DFS PGA changes with the course setup, field of players and weather, Chris will be providing a range of different picks for cash games as well as upside plays for tournaments. Chris also provides a DFS PGA Cheatsheet which looks at odds, form, course history, and much more. Sentry Tournament of Champions After a long off-season(not really) we are back and ready to kick off the 2020 portion of the season in style. It starts with a trip to Hawaii for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The field is open to all winners from the previous season and this year we get 33-man field led by Xander Schauffele, Dustin Johnson, and Justin Thomas who have combined to win the last three events here. We will also get to see the red-hot John Rahm who has jumped up to #3 in the Official World Golf Rankings since the Tour Championship with two wins and a runner-up on the Euro Tour. The course is fairly unique in that it is a Par 73 with just three Par 3's, 11 Par 4's, and four Par 5's. The other unique part that leads to some of the low scoring is that six of the 11 Par 4 holes are under 400 yards. The par 5's are where most of the scoring comes from, however, with three of them coming in or under 555 yards. Even the beastly 663-yard par 5 18th hole plays almost a half-stroke under par. The event quickly turns into a birdie fest with wide fairways, huge greens, and normally excellent weather. Because of this, I am keeping my model fairly simple this week and looking at Strokes Gained: Approach with an emphasis on Proximity with the giant green complexes. After that, I am heavy on Birdie or Better %, Par 5 Birdie or Better %, and Par 4 scoring which can help players separate themselves as they are the hardest holes on the course(still not that hard). With that, let's jump into the picks. The Course Plantation Course at Kapalua Par 73 - 7,452 yards Greens - **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2019 - Xander Schauffele(-23) 2018 - Dustin Johnson(-24) 2017 - Justin Thomas(-22) 2016 - Jordan Spieth(-30) 2015 - Patrick reed(-21) Top Stats in the Model Strokes Gained: Approach Proximity Birdie or Better % Par 4 Scoring Par 5 Birdie or Better % When breaking down the top...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – The RSM Classic
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – The RSM Classic Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. The RSM Classic The final full-field event of 2019 is here as the PGA Tour travels to the Sea Island Resort in Georgia for the RSM Classic. With a strong field in Dubai for the DP World Tour Championship, this event lacks the star power but is still led by Webb Simpson(#12) and Matt Kuchar(#22) who are both ranked inside the Top 25 in the Official World Golf Rankings. This is also a week where a multi-course rotation is used for the first two days. Each golfer will play one round on the Seaside course and one round on the Plantation course on Thursday and Friday and all golfers who make the cut(Top 65 & ties) will play their final two rounds on the Seaside course only. The two-course rotation at this event started back in 2015 with just the Seaside course used in previous years. Let's take a look at the courses with the most emphasis going into the Seaside which will host three of the four rounds. Sea Island Resort(Seaside Course) Par 70 - 7,005 Yards The Seaside Course is a Links-Style Par 70 that comes in on the shorter side at just over 7,000 yards. The fairways are average width but with a ton of danger lurking outside the fairway(water, thick rough, native areas), golfers will once again be heavy on a "Less than Driver" strategy off the tee. Because of this, we have seen the average driving accuracy over 70% almost every year since. The greens are also larger than average(7,200 sq feet) which drives up the Greens in Regulation number putting emphasis on not only Proximity but we also see, for the most part, good or at least above average putters do well here. It is the harder of the two course's but there will be bridies as it has ranked outside the Top 25 in difficulty in...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Mayakoba Classic
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Mayakoba Classic Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. As every week in DFS PGA changes with the course setup, field of players and weather, Chris will be providing a range of different picks for cash games as well as upside plays for tournaments. Chris is also providing his DFS PGA Weekly cheatsheet where he provides stats, course history, current form, fantasy points, and much more. Grab your copy today and edge out the competition. Mayakoba Classic After an off week for fantasy, we are back as the PGA Tour heads to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for the Mayakoba Classic(formerly the OHL Classic). Matt Kuchar returns to defend his title after posting a tournament record winning score of -22 a year ago and he joins Tony Finau as the only players inside the Top 25 of the Official World Golf Rankings in the field. After three straight no-cut events we are also back to a full field(almost) of 132 players with a cut of Top 65 and ties after round two on Friday. El Cameleon Golf Club is a shorter Par 71 setup that falls just below 7,000 yards on the scorecard. Being that it is shorter in length and has narrower than average fairways, we tend to see golfers go with a "less than driver" strategy off the tee which has generated an average driving accuracy over 60% when looking at the last five years results. With that in mind, this will most likely come down to the mid-iron and wedge game so my top-weighted stat this week will be Strokes Gained: Approach. With an average winning score of -19 over the last five years, I will also be weighing Birdie or Better % quite high as there are usually at least 5-10 players who tally 20 or more birdies over the week with a whopping 31 doing it last year. The Par 5's are all reachable in two which helps that birdie number but I will be focusing on Par 4 scoring in my model as these are the harder holes on the course and the place where golfers can separate themselves from the pack. With that, let's take a look at the course setup, previous winners, key stats, and then jump into the core picks. The Course El Camaleon Golf Club - Playa Del Carmen, Mexico...
