Daytona 500 Daytona International Speedway - Daytona Beach, FL Track - 2.5 Mile Tri-Oval Superspeedway While it seems like just yesterday we were watching Joey Logano celebrate his first championship in Victory Lane at Homestead, it is time to start a brand new Monster Energy Cup Series season. With that brings the biggest race of the season, the 61st running of the Daytona 500. The track is a 2.5-mile Tri-Oval Superspeedway that is one of two tracks(Talladega as well) that uses a traditional restrictor plate to help reduce top overall speeds. That is until this year as NASCAR is implementing a new rules package that will include a tapered spacer(similar to restrictor plate) that will be used in 17 of the 36 races, all over one mile in length. The Daytona 500 will be the last race using the traditional restrictor plate so current data is still very relevant. With that said, this is plate racing and there is always a "Big One" or two which can easily wipe out half the field or at least take them out of contention. For fantasy, place differential is at the top of my list this week. Looking at the last two years(four Daytona races), there has been just nine of 40 drivers to finish Top 10 actually start Top 10. Even if we see a scenario like the Clash where racing went single file after two to three laps of racing, there is still lots of opportunities to move through the field in those two to three laps. You can also go with a slightly contrarian approach and go for dominator points as we have seen a driver lead 50 or more laps in five of the last six Daytona races and both times in 2016 the laps leader also won the race(Denny Hamlin-Daytona 500, Brad Keselowski-Coke Zero 400). Qualifying is very important this week and the Daytona 500 does it different than anyone else. The first qualifying session was held on Sunday before the Clash but only...

Advanced Auto Parts Clash Daytona International Speedway - Daytona Beach, FL Track - 2.5 Mile Tri-Oval Superspeedway Welcome back race fans. While the start of the 2019 season is still a week away, I am psyched to see cars back on the track and to be honest, I am one of the degens who was watching the live feeds of the Las Vegas test session that Jeff Gluck was sharing on Twitter. The test was huge in gaining information for the upcoming season and the massive changes in place. Basically, NASCAR is adding downforce to the cars to create closer racing and it was evident in watching that the leader didn't just get out front and gain a huge lead. The other thing I took from the test is that passing that leader looks very tough so from a fantasy perspective, we are still going to see just one or two dominators in a race at an intermediate track. To kick off the Daytona festivities we have the Advanced Auto Parts Clash which is made up of pole winners from the 2018 season, former Clash winners and former Daytona 500 winners who were full-time last season, and all drivers who qualified for the 2018 Monster Energy Cup Series playoffs. This season's exhibition, 75-lap event will be made up of a 20 driver field and for fantasy, the salaries are very soft so almost every lineup construction is in play this week. Place differential is always a key to building lineups on plate tracks and with qualifying coming in the form of a random draw on Saturday at 6:30 pm ET, it will be vital to stay tuned for that information before constructing your lineups. In the meantime, let's dig in and take a look at a few of the pre-qualifying targets. Last Six Winners 2018 - Brad Keselowski 2017 - Joey Logano 2016 - Denny Hamlin 2015 - Matt Kenseth 2014 - Denny Hamlin 2013 - Kevin Harvick Pre Qualifying Targets Denny Hamlin Hamlin is one of...

Ford EcoBoost 400 Homestead-Miami Speedway - Homestead, FL Track - 1.5 Mile Oval Intermediate After 35 races and nine long months, the championship weekend is finally here. As everyone expected throughout the season, the "Big 3" of Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, and Martin Truex Jr. made the final four like last season and this time around Joey Logano replaces teammate Brad Keselowski with the final spot. All four are definitely deserving with multiple wins each and combined for 22 wins in the 35 races(63%) thus far. On top of that, they finished first through fourth in laps led, average finish, and for us in fantasy first through fourth in average fantasy scoring. As always the final race of the season will take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway which always produces excellent racing with its multiple lines and an abrasive surface which wears tires quickly and makes for some crucial pit stop planning. While it is not necessary for the eventual champion to win the race(just has to finish better than the other three drivers), each of the last four champions has won here at Homestead. For fantasy, it is the 12th race on a mile and a half track in 2018 and while Homestead is different from the others, it is still very important to look at the form on this specific track type. There are 267 laps in the race and looking at the last six races here there has been one driver lead 100 or more laps in five of those races putting dominator points at the top of the list. As always, qualifying determines how important place differential is and looking back there has been five or more drivers pick up double-digit PD in five of the last six races as well. With all that said, let's take a look at some of the top trends heading into championship weekend and then some of the top drivers to target in your fantasy lineups. Last Six Winners at Homestead Martin Truex Jr.(started 2nd) Jimmie Johnson(started 14th) Kyle Busch(started 3rd) Kevin Harvick(started 5th) Denny Hamlin(5th) Jeff Gordon(started 15th) Top 5 Current Track History at Homestead...

Can-Am 500 ISM Raceway - Avondale, AZ Track - 1 Mile Tri-Oval The final elimination race before the finale at Homestead is finally here and everything is on the line for the seven drivers not locked in. That is right, Kevin Harvick won in dominating fashion last week at Texas but was hit with a huge L1 penalty after NASCAR found their spoiler to be illegal. Like the rule or not, he was stripped of the benefits of the win and was docked 40 points leaving him just three points above the cutline going into Sunday's race. That race will take place at ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona this week but won't be like any other race held there before as the track was reconstructed after the Spring race. Turns 1 and 2 are now turns 3 and 4 with the start/finish line moved to the other side of the track right before the dogleg. This will produce some crazy restarts with drivers going four and five wide as we saw in the truck race on Friday night. From a fantasy perspective, dominator will be key to constructing the core of our lineup. There has been one driver to lead 100 or more of the 312 laps in each of the last six races and two or more drivers to lead 50 or more laps in five straight here at Phoenix. With that in mind, let's take a look at some of the track trends and top drivers to target going into the race. Last Six Winners at ISM Raceway Kevin Harvick(started 10th) Matt Kenseth(started 7th) Ryan Newman(started 22nd) Joey Logano(started 4th) Kevin Harvick(started 18th) Dale Earnhardt Jr.(started 3rd) Top 5 Current Track History at ISM Raceway Bad news for Kevin Harvick, his win from last week doesn't give him an automatic bid into the finals. The good news is that he returns to a track in ISM Raceway in which he has dominated lately with two wins(2018, 2016), four Top 10's and has finished each of the last five races inside the Top 10. While Kyle Busch doesn't have a win here in that...

AAA Texas 500 Texas Motor Speedway - Fort Worth, Texas Track - 1.5 Mile Intermediate The Round of 8 started with some exciting short track racing as Joey Logano moved Martin Truex Jr. on the final lap of the race to take the checkered flag and receive a one-way ticket to Homestead for the final. The win locks Logano into the final four and puts the "Big 3" in Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr, and Kevin Harvick in favorable spots above the cutline. On the outside looking in is Kurt Busch(-25), Chase Elliott(-31), Clint Bowyer(-42), and Aric Almirola(-50). The second race of the ROund of 8 takes the Monster Energy Cup Series to Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA Texas 500 on Sunday afternoon. It is the 11th mile and half intermediate track race of the season but keep in mind that this is only the fourth race here at Texas with the new configuration. Following the 2016 season, not only was new drainage added to the track, but the ownership group also dropped the banking in turns 1 and 2 from 24 degrees to 20 degrees and widened the track from 60 to 80 feet. For fantasy, there are 334 laps in this race so dominator points are once again at the forefront when constructing the core of our lineups. Don't discount place differential, however, as there are some big names starting outside the Top 10 this week including Martin Truex Jr.(13th), Chase Elliott(16th), and Kyle Larson(22nd). With that in mind, let's take a look at some trends and then get into the picks. Last Six Winners at Texas Kyle Busch(started 8th) Kevin Harvick(started 3rd) Jimmie Johnson(started 24th) Carl Edwards(started 9th) Kyle Busch(started 15th) Jimmie Johnson(started 8th) Top 5 Current Track History at Texas Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick have just one win between them over the last five races here at Texas but have been very consistent as the only two drivers with a Top 5 in each of those races. Both have also led over 200 laps each in that time and have averaged over 60...
