South Point 400 Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas, NV Track - 1.5 Mile D-Shaped Oval 20° of Banking After a dominating win by Kevin Harvick and the #4 team at the Brickyard, the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Las Vegas to kick off the 2019 Playoffs. Ryan Newman went into that final regular-season race tied with Daniel Suarez for the final spot and battled his way from a 22nd starting position to finish 8th and grab that final position. That means, for the first time in the 16 years of the playoffs, Jimmie Johnson will not be battling for a title. This is also one of the few seasons I can remember it being so wide open(coming from a Kyle Busch fan) which should create some tremendous racing over the next 10 weeks. This weekends race at las Vegas is also the eighth race on an intermediate track with the full 2019 rules package so I have added that data to the sheet this week and weighed it quite heavy in the model. The biggest takeaway when breaking down that data is that no driver has multiple wins and nine drivers have an average finish between 8.4 and 12. In only four of those races has a driver led 100 or more laps and Las Vegas in the Spring was not one of them. In fact, no driver has led 100 or more laps in two straight and three of the last five races here in Sin City. From a fantasy perspective, I will be looking to build my core around the playoff drivers and for value plays, will be looking at drivers with something to prove down the stretch. Speed also helps so be sure to check the updates on my NASCAR cheatsheet throughout the weekend and if you are a DFSR member, make sure to get into chat and grab your Members-Only sheet with all my top picks in my player pool. Big Machine Vodka 400 from the Brickyard Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Speedway, IN Track - 2.5 Mile Oval 9° of Banking in Turns The final race of the 2019 regular season takes the Cup Series to the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Looking at the standings, Kyle Busch has wrapped up the regular season championship which earns him an additional 15 playoff points but the playoff picture is most definitely not set. Aric Almirola is 57 points up on the bubble and would need a catastrophic failure to not get in but Clint Bowyer(+8) has much less room for error while Ryan Newman and Daniel Suarez sit tied for 16th with 617 points. Like the poker term "chip and a chair", seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson(-18) still has hope but needs a lot of things to go his way on Sunday. Indianapolis is another very unique track in that 2.5 miles in length, shaped more like a rectangle than an oval, and has just nine degrees of banking. From a fantasy standpoint, track position is key with just 160 laps in the race and is shown by a very high correlation from starting to finish position outside the 2017 wreck-fest where just five drivers who started Top 10 finished Top 25. With so few laps, there are not nearly as many fantasy points to go around, especially from a dominator standpoint and only once in the last six races has a driver led 100 laps(Kyle Busch-2016). The big wrinkle in all of this is Sunday qualifying. You heard me right, teams will have two practices on Saturday followed by inspection and then qualifying on Sunday morning at 10:35 am ET. The good news, if you are playing DFS NFL as well, is that if you reserve your entries early you will have an hour after NFL lock to set your lineups for NASCAR. Buckle up for one hell of a fun/exhausting/fun Sunday. Last Six Winners at Indianapolis 2018 - Brad Keselowski(started...

Bojangles Southern 500 The final bye-week of the 2019 season is now behind us and the focus now shifts to the final two races of the regular season. The last time cars were on track, Matt DiBenedetto almost flipped the Playoff picture upside down leading 93 laps late at Bristol but was eventually passed by Denny Hamlin with just 11 laps to go. Instead, we have what appears to be a four-horse race when it comes to points and the playoff bubble. Daniel Suarez sits in that coveted 16th position with 591 points with Ryan Newman just 12 points ahead in 15th, Clint Bowyer just two points behind in 17th, and seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson just 26 points behind in 18th. No driver in and around the bubble will be feeling safe with two very unique tracks to close out the regular season and it starts this weekend with one of the Crown Jewels of the sport. Darlington Raceway has hosted a race on Labour Day weekend going all the way back to 1950 where there were 75 cars who battled the track "Too Tough to Tame". While the field has been greatly reduced(39 cars entered) the track is still one of the most unique and challenging on the circuit. It is more egg-shaped than oval, has different degrees of banking at each end of the track, and is rough and very hard on tires. While the winner hasn't come from the pole position since Kevin Harvick's 2014 win, Darlington has a very high correlation to starting position which makes sense as passing can be a challenge on the narrow, high-groove track. This puts a ton of emphasis on track position and that correlates very highly with the dominator as there have been seven drivers to lead 100+ laps in the last six races, three times coming from the pole, and six times coming from a Top 5 starting position. Let's now take a look at some race trends, the weekend schedule, and...

Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race Bristol Motor Speedway - Bristol, TN Track - .533 mile Oval Short Track 24° to 30° of Banking This week the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway for one of the most anticipated races of the year, the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race on Saturday. If you thought tempers were starting to flare up before, just wait until Saturday night where they will have to race door to door, bumper to bumper for 500 laps. Adding to the pressure once again is the Playoff bubble with just three races remaining in the regular season so before we get into this week, let's take a look at the drivers with the most to gain or lose here at the Worlds Fastest Half-Mile. 11th - Aric Almirola(645 pts) 12th - William Byron(642 pts) 13th - Kyle Larson(624 pts) 14th - Erik Jones(623 pts) 15th - Ryan Newman(569 pts) 16th - Clint Bowyer(559 pts) 17th - Jimmie Johnson(547 pts) 18th - Paul Menard(506 pts) From a fantasy perspective, this is most definitely a dominator race with 500 laps on a half-mile track and we have seen at least two drivers lead 100 or more laps in eight straight races here at Bristol. There has also been at least three drivers to 50 or more laps in each of the last five races as well. Passing is projected to be tough as Bristol Motor Speedway has laid down PJ1 on the bottom groove multiple times already this weekend and have also ground down some of the rubber on the top in an effort to create a one-lane track at the bottom. Old school Bristol baby! With that said, combined with the unofficial qualifying this afternoon, I am projecting five or fewer drivers picking up double-digit place differential. Last Six Winners at Bristol 2019(1) - Kyle Busch(started 17th, led 71 laps) 2018(2) - Kurt Busch(started 9th, led 24 laps) 2018(1) - Kyle Busch(started 1st, led...

Consumers Energy 400 This week the Monster Energy Cup Series heads back to Michigan for the second time this season after Joey Logano dominated from the pole leading 163 laps en route to the win the June race. With only four races remaining in the regular season, things are getting intense and a lot of that boiled over last week. It started with an incident involving Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Blaney which led to a heated discussion on pit road. Then there was Kyle Busch getting involved with not only William Byron but also Bubba Wallace, who both sent the #18 spinning gaining a ton of fans in the process. Emotions are running hot, especially for those fighting for points to make the playoffs so before we get into the race at Michigan, let's look at the drivers around that playoff bubble. 12th - William Byron(604 pts) 13th - Erik Jones(598 pts) 14th - Kyle Larson(590 pts) 15th - Clint Bowyer(556 pts) 16th - Ryan Newman(544 pts) 17th - Jimmie Johnson(544 pts) 18th - Daniel Suarez(521 pts) Very similar to the last three races(Watkisn Glen, Pocono, New Hampshire), Michigan is another track where track position is huge. Looking at the last six races here, there have been at least five drivers to start and finish Top 10 in each of those races with six more drivers doing so four times. The correlation between starting and finishing position is one of the highest in NASCAR ranging from .585 to .810 over those six races. The winner has also come from the pole position in six of the last 12 races and from a Top 10 starting position nine times. With 200 laps in the race, dominator points are going to be a story when talking fantasy. More recently it has been a one dominator race as one driver has led 100 or more laps in two straight and three of the last four and only once in those four races have multiple drivers led...
