After another wild Talladega race last week, the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway for the second elimination race of the 2019 Playoffs. Ryan Blaney's win last week shook up the standings in a big way as he entered the race in dead last(12th) and has now pushed Alex Bowman(-18), Chase Elliott(-22), Clint Bowyer(-24), and William Byron(-27) well below the cutline. Get ready to see a ton of aggression this week, not only from drivers but from crew chiefs as well. Buckle up and enjoy! From a fantasy perspective, track position isn't at a premium but still very important as we have seen a driver lead 100 or more laps in each of the last six races. Of those six drivers, three of them came from a pole position and five of them started 7th or better. Qualifying always determines how much place differential value there will be but keep in mind there have been 15 drivers to tally double-digit place differential points in the last two races here. With that let's take a look at some track history at the driver level and then dig into the picks. Kansas Speedway - Kansas City, KS Track - 1.5 Mile D-Shaped Oval Intermediate 15° of Banking Last Six Winners at Kansas 2019(1) - Brad Keselowski(started 4th) 2018(2) - Chase Elliott(started 13th) 2018(1) - Kevin Harvick(started 1st) 2017(2) - Martin Truex Jr.(started 1st) 2017(1) - Martin Truex Jr.(started 3rd) 2016(2) - Kevin Harvick(started 11th) Track History at Kansas Martin Truex Jr. is coming off a 19th place finish here in the Spring but going back to the start of 2017(5 races), he has two wins(swept 2017), four Top 5's and the best average finish(5.6) among all drivers in that time. Brad Keselowski picked up his second career win here in the Spring and was 6th last year in the Playoffs and has Top 10 finishes in six of his last nine races here. When it comes...

This week the series heads back to Talladega Superspeedway for 1000Bulbs.com 500 and second race of the Round of 12. As it stands, Joey Logano and William Byron are tied for 8th in the standings with Clint Bowyer(-4), Chase Elliott(-7), and Ryan Blaney(-22) on the outside looking in going into Talladega. From a fantasy perspective, Talladega and Daytona are unlike any other track in terms of strategy. Teams work together more than ever as the draft is king but with that draft comes large groups of cars packed together on the track which always leads to "The Big One". The draft also makes is easy to navigate through the field which puts the weight heavily on the side of place differential in terms of lineup construction. Looking at the last six races, there have been four drivers in five of the six races who started Top 10 and finished there and on the flip side, there have been four drivers who have started outside the Top 20 who have finished Top 10 as well. With that, let's take a look at the track, previous winners, track history trends, and then dive into the picks. Talladega Superspeedway Track - 2.66 Mile Tri-Oval Superspeedway 33° of Banking Last Six Winners at Talladega 2019(1) - Chase Elliott(started 11th) 2018(2) - Aric Almirola(started 4th) 2018(1) - Joey Logano(started 9th) 2017(2) - Brad Keselowski(started 6th) 2017(1) - Ricky Stenhouse Jr.(started 1st) 2016(2) - Joey Logano(started 16th) Track History at Talladega Aric Almirola won the Playoff race here last year and has easily been the best driver at this superspeedway lately with Top 10's in six straight races. Not far behind is Joey Logano who has Top 5's in four straight and five of his last six races here which include two wins(Spring 2018, Fall 2016). Logano and...

Drydene 400 Dover International Raceway - Dover, DE Track - 1 Mile Oval 24° of Banking One round down, three to go until NASCAR crowns a Champion. After a Chase Elliott win at the Roval elimination race last week, the field was shrunk to 12 as the Cup Series heads to Dover to open the Round of 12 this weekend. The Monster Mile is a high banked(24°) one-mile oval track where track position is at a premium. The correlation between start to finish has been .700 or great in four straight and five of the last six races and it makes sense as you can fall a lap down here in an instant. In fact, going back to the start of 2016, there has not been more than 15 cars to finish on the lead lap in any Dover race and has averaged just 12 in that sample size. This puts a ton of emphasis on qualifying come Saturday afternoon. With 400 laps in the race, it is also dominator heavy for scoring as there have been two drivers to lead 100+ laps in five of the last six races here with one driver leading 200+ three times. Looking at those six races and the 12 drivers who have led 90 or more laps, they have come from a Top 5 starting position seven times, a Top 10 starting position nine times. The biggest surprise was that both Jones(145 laps led) and Truex(132 laps led) earlier this year started 13th and 15th respectively. Digging deeper, however, while neither had speed in the opening practice, the were 2nd/3rd in final practice in both one-lap and 10-lap averages. Let's take a look at the weekend schedule, previous winners, track history trends, and then dig into the core plays for daily fantasy. Weekend Schedule Practice #1 - Friday @ 1:35 pm ET Practice #2 - Friday @ 3:35 pm ET Qualifying - Saturday @ 1:35 pm ET Lineup Lock - Sunday @ 2:30 pm ET Last Six...

Bank of America Roval 400 Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course - Concord, NC Track - 2.28 Mile Road Course The first elimination race in the 2019 Playoffs takes the Cup Series back to the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course. This will be the second race here at the hybrid track, or "Roval" as most of us have labeled it, but this year will be slightly different. First of all, the cars are running the new 2019 rules package focused on downforce and the track has also added a new chicane on the backstretch. Martin Truex Jr. comes into this race with nothing to lose as he won the first two races of the Playoffs and will be looking for redemption after having this race in the bag last season until the final turn where Jimmie Johnson took him out allowing Ryan Blaney to steal the win. Joining Truex in the Round of 12 are Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch who have clinched via points. Looking at the bubble drivers, Aric Almirola(+3) and Wiliam Byron(+2) are walking a fine line sitting 11th and 12th with Alex Bowman(-2) and Clint Bowyer(-4) lurking very close behind. The two drivers in the biggest hole entering the Roval 400 are Kurt Busch who is 14 points back and Erik Jones who is a whopping 45 points back after his disqualification last week voiding the JGR 1-2-3-4 finish. From a fantasy perspective, there are only 109 laps in the race which limits the dominator factor to an extent. Last season, Kyle Larson started 5th and took the lead early and ended up with the most laps led(47) but a late restart crash left him with a disappointing 25th place finish(story of his last couple seasons). Brad Keselowski also led 29 laps with Ryan Blaney(16 laps led) the only other driver to lead more than 10 laps. I think we see a similar trend this race and I am projecting three drivers to lead 20+ laps. We kind...

Federated Auto Parts 400 The Playoffs are in full swing and it was Martin Truex Jr. who was the first to book his ticket into the second round with a win at Las Vegas last week. Surprisingly enough, he was the only Joe Gibbs Racing driver to finish with a Top 10 as Denny Hamlin finished 11th, Kyle Busch finished 18th, and Erik Jones had mechanical issues and finished 13 laps down in 36th. Joining Jones in a tough position going into the next two races is Kurt Busch who made contact with Chase Elliott, got a tire rub, stayed out one lap too long and ended up in the wall finishing 39th. Truex now leads the standings going into Richmond with Harvick, Logano, Kyle Busch, and Keselowski rounding out the Top 5. The second race of the Playoffs takes the Cup series back to Richmond for the second time with Joe Gibbs Racing Racing drivers Kyle Busch(101) and Martin Truex Jr.(186) dominating the laps led with Truex coming home the eventual winner. From a track-type standpoint, it is classified as a short track but look at it more in a grouping of shorter tracks that are flat and that list includes Richmond, Phoenix, Martinsville, and New Hampshire. I have added this season's data on those track to the sheet this week and that is how I will be weighing track type in my model. Looking at the last six races here at Richmond, there has been a driver to lead 100 or more laps in each race with two drivers leading 100+ in three of the last six races including earlier this Spring. Of the nine instances where a driver led 100 or more laps in those last six races, the driver came from a Top 10 starting position seven times and a Top 5 starting position five times. Qualifying and track position are huge in this race as strategy can be tough to come by with teams taking four tires...
