Houston Open Welcome back to another week of daily fantasy golf. I was off last week where we saw Bubba Watson take down the WGC Del Technologies Match Play and Brice Garnett get his first career victory at the fresh new event, the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. With just one week until the Masters, the PGA Tour travels to Texas for the Houston Open. For those who are already in the field for the Masters, it is a terrific tune-up event as the Golf Club of Houston staff does everything they can to replicate some of the features at Augusta such as shaved banks, fast greens, and thin rough. It isn't exactly like Augusta as the scores here are about double that of the Masters so don't put the blinders on and just use that correlation. Here are a couple quotes from players that can really help in narrowing down what is important here at GC of Houston. This weeks field is a strong one with three of the Top 10(Spieth, Rose, Fowler) and seven of the Top 25 golfers in the world in action. The defending champion is Russell Henley who took down the tournament last year with a winning score of -20 and over the last five years at this event, we have seen an average winning score of -16. Arnold Palmer Invitational It appears we can close the door on another "can't win" name as Paul Casey broke through with his second career PGA Tour win on Sunday. His first win came back at the Shell Houston Open in 2009 which seems like ages ago but almost no one deserved it more than Casey. He had made 25 straight cuts dating back to January 2017(Sony Open) going into the Valspar Championship and since the start of the 2015 season, has made a ridiculous 68 cuts in 77 events(88%) with 27 Top 10 finishes. The other big story from this past week was the incredible performance from Tiger Woods who finished T2 and ranked 14th in SG: OTT, 8th in SG: APP, and 5th in SG: ATG. His weak spot, and it wasn't that weak, was his putting which ranked 39th in the field. The highlight of the weekend? His 44-foot putt on the 17th hole to climb within one, which if you are human, must have given you chills of days of old. Check it out. This week the PGA Tour heads to Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Florida for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The course is very demanding off the tee with trees, bunkers in the landing zones, water, and doglegs which put a premium on hitting the fairway to get a shot at hitting the greens in regulation. This will once again bring the "less than driver" strategy off the tee into play on a handful of the Par 4 holes and combined with length will leave players with a lot of 200+ yard approaches(see shot distribution below). The most convincing player quote I read this week(via Future of Fantasy Golfanac) is from Rickie Fowler: Getting through the Par 4's at par or a few strokes below for the week will be huge in trying...

Grab your copy today and edge out the competition.   Valspar Championship What a finish to last week's WGC-Mexico Championship. Phil Mickelson ended a long drought with his first win since 2013. It didn't come easy as Justin Thomas holed out from the fairway on the 72nd hole to take a one-shot lead but Phil made birdies on the 15th and then a long 19-footer on the 16th hole followed by back to back pars to take it to extra holes where he finished it off on the first playoff hole. Missed the action? Check out the highlights for yourself before we jump into this week. This week the Tour heads back to Florida for the Valspar Championship from the Copperhead course at Innisbrook Resort. Year in and year out, this course ranks as one of the hardest on Tour and with its tight, tree-lined fairways, double doglegs, bunkers and water. With the challenges off the tee, we will most definitely see a lot of "Less than Driver" strategies from a ton of the players. Just check out some of the quotes from players(via Future of Fantasy). The other interesting part about this course is that has five Par 3's and what all of them are 195 yards or longer. This challenge definitely helps keep the winning scores down as survival on these holes is key as we have seen just 16% and 15% of all birdies come from these five holes. WGC Mexico Championship Welcome back to another week of daily fantasy golf. The Honda Classic ended Sunday with Justin Thomas picking up his second win of the season and eighth of his young career as he beat out Luke List on the first playoff hole. This week the PGA Tour heads to Mexico City for the second WGC event of the season, the Mexico Championship. Dustin Johnson took down the first Mexico Championship last season with a winning score of -14 and now has five WGC event wins in his career. This year's event has another loaded field with 45 of the World's Top 50 players and over 20 players from the European Tour. The lack of stats and course history clouds the model slightly this week so I will be looking heavily at form, especially DraftKings points. Also, just a note that this is a no-cut event so you will be getting all four rounds from every golfer. One thing that stands out this week for me is a quote from last year(via Future of Fantasy Golfanac) where Tommy Fleetwood talks about the course. This has me leaning heavily on the Euro players this week as you will see below. Let's take a look at the course itself, some stats, and then dig into some picks for the week. This puts a ton of emphasis on getting the ball in play on the fairway(less than driver) which in turn will give the player a chance to hit the greens(Strokes Gained: Ball Striking). With the course being a Par 70 setup, there are only two Par 5's which is why you will see a ton of weight on Par 4 scoring. As always, Birdie or Better % is also heavily weighted as it directly correlates with fantasy scoring on DraftKings and FanDuel. One little note before jumping into the article.
