But let’s look a little closer. The Steelers’ loss came down to a missed Gostkowski field goal at the end of regulation. And the Bengals’ game, played in rough weather conditions saw the Titans intercepted in the end zone on their first drive and another missed FG on their second drive. That game should have been much closer. The Titans have the 4th-ranked offense on the season and are actually the second-best passing attack overall this season. That stands in stark contrast to the Bears who rank 27th on that side of the ball. Deciding who to roll between Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky is part of the reason they are struggling and there isn’t a whole lot of hope of getting better. And sure, on the defensive side of the ball, the Bears have been excellent this season, ranking 6th in DVOA overall and 5th against the pass. But they are worse against the run and its stands to reason the Titans lean on Derrick Henry in this matchup. Plus, the Bears’ defense has slipped over the last couple of weeks as the offense continues struggling to muster any firepower. The Titans take care of business in this game. Atlanta Falcons Opponent DEN Proj Points Falcons -3.5 The Falcons had been losing in increasingly fantastic fashion over a stretch this season. It was really something how they’d pulled out new and creative ways to take the “L”. But things have (sort of) begun turning around in the last few weeks. They have wins over the Vikings and Panthers with a Todd Gurley accidental TD / loss to Detroit jammed in there. That being said, this team is almost definitely better than their 2-6 record suggests and they are 2-1 under Raheem Morris. Where this comes down to, in some part, is the Falcons are a funnel defense, insanely bad against the pass but actually 8th overall against the run. And Denver would much prefer to run considering they are about league average on the ground and near the bottom of the league through the air. The come-from-behind...

There is a lot more clarity heading into week 9 than there was in week 8, but that doesn't necessarily make it an easier one. There are a lot of close decisions at every position. How do we decide between Russell Wilson or Patrick Mahomes? What do we do if we lose the Texans game to Covid? At running back there is a glut of guys that look awfully similar. Do we lean into David Johnson, or do we try and get greedy with a play like Antonio Gibson or David Montgomery? Or can we move in the other direction, paying up for James Conner? Wide receiver doesn't get any easier, with a lack of cheap options really pressuring our budget. There are a handful of fun mid-range options like Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, and Tyler Lockett, but we might not have the money left over to afford it. Can we instead look to Marvin Jones Jr., Brandin Cooks, or even Sterling Shepard? There are a lot of nuanced conversations this week, and this is not a podcast you're going to want to miss. James and Doug are back to take an early look at cash games for a much more sane week 9 on FanDuel and DraftKings. We have a lot of good options at quarterback this week, and it really comes down to fitting one into the price tier you're looking for. Whether it's Watson, Murray, or Herbert, it's going to be tough to feel too bad about where you land. Running back offers similar chalk options in Dalvin Cook and Chase Edmonds, but the potential third slot leaves something to be desired. The guys discuss the pros and cons of options like David Johnson and Antonio Gibson, while allowing for the possibility that a cheap play could come along and change things up considerably. Wide receiver has a few great options in Julio Jones and Brandin Cooks, with a lot of question marks around who goes in that third slot. Do we roll the dice on a cheap Detroit wide receiver, or bite the bullet and pay up elsewhere? Tight end basically comes down to a decision between paying up for Kelce or punting to a risky, touchdown-dependent option. The best of those appears to be TJ Hockenson given Golladay's absence, but the guys throw out other names like Noah Fant or Evan Engram as well. Love the DFSR podcast? Quarterbacks Deshaun Watson FD 8300 DK 7100 Opponent JAXProj Points FD - 24.52 DK - 25.36 The Texans’ season hasn’t gone exactly to plan which is something of an understatement. They are 1-6, have already fired their coach/GM and there’s not a lot of hope on the horizon. But there is reason to suspect Watson can put up points in this matchup. He’s getting to face the worst defense in football in the Jacksonville Jaguars who rank 32nd overall and 32nd against the pass as well. This is the dream matchup for Watson who has been (fantasy-wise) awesome since O’Brien exited. Over the last four games, Watson is averaging 326 passing yards and 2.75 passing touchdowns per while also getting out for 25 yards on the ground. He’s right back to being one of the elite fantasy quarterbacks, something we didn’t see over the first few weeks of the season. Considering how bad the Jaguars are on D, this would be a tough fade in cash games. Kyler Murray FD 8600 DK 7800 Opponent MIAProj Points FD - 23.78 DK - 24.55 To be clear, I think Watson is the clear choice for cash games this week considering the matchup and just what he’s been able to do under the coaching regime. That being said, I think there’s going to be enough value elsewhere to almost have to pay up for one of these top-tier quarterback options. Murray definitely fits that bill this week. On the season, he’s the second overall FanDuel points-per-game scorer and gets it done in every phase of the game. He leads all quarterbacks in rushing yards (437) and rushing touchdowns (7) which helps make up for being merely middle of the pack when it comes to passing touchdowns. Miami has been an above-average defense on the season and is much better against the pass which gives Watson the matchup edge this week. But Murray has as high a floor as any player in the game right now and has been remarkably consistent to start the season. Justin Herbert FD 7900 DK 6800 Opponent LVProj Points FD - 21.1 DK - 22.13 Again, just to reiterate, I don’t want to pivot too hard off of Watson. But if you are looking for a slightly different direction to go at a bit of...

START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW! Quarterbacks Russell Wilson FD 8700 DK 7800 Opponent SFProj Points FD - 23.83 DK - 24.31 From a fantasy perspective, Russell Wilson has a couple of things going for him right now. First and foremost, he’s incredible. That’s the most important thing. But not too far behind is that because Seattle’s defense is an absolute sieve, he’ll always have a chance to keep his foot on the gas in the offense. Wilson is the number one per game DraftKings’ scoring player on the season so far, leading Kyler Murray by about 2.5 per. He’s also been remarkably consistent with the lowest coefficient of variation of anyone in the top group. The issue this week is the matchup against the Rams isn’t exactly ideal considering they allow the third-fewest opponent plays per game and have a top-10 defense. But the position is a bit problematic for a variety of reasons this week and you get so much safety with Russ. Ryan Tannehill FD 7500 DK 6800 Opponent CINProj Points FD - 21.13 DK - 21.93 It’s funny to say, but through six games this season, Tannehill is a Top-7 DraftKings per-game quarterback, even edging out Aaron Rodgers who is $800 more expensive ($700 on DraftKings). And this week Tannehill is handed one of the better matchups on the main slate against the lowly Bengals. Cincinnati made Baker Mayfield look like an absolute superstar in Week 7. They are a bottom-third defense and worse against the pass on the season. Tannehill has completed 69% of his passes this season with a 15:2 TD: INT rate. Plus, with AJ Brown back and fully healthy Corey Davis, Tannehill has a full complement of weapons. If you don’t want to spend all the way up for Russ, this is the first level pivot down. Derek Carr FD 7300 DK 5500 Opponent CLEProj Points FD - 18.58 DK - 19.21 Don’t look now, but Derek Carr is putting together a nice season. He’s completing 72% of his passes, good for third overall in the league with a respectable 13:2 TD: INT rate. He’s starting to take more shots downfield but is also a good intermediate passer that allows him to stay away from big mistakes. And yet he’s priced as QB19 (out of 22) on DraftKings this week. That is just a...
