Pitcher Gerrit Cole FD 9600 DK 11000 Opponent - SD (Lamet) Park - @PITFD - 37.1 DK - 24.38 This is one of those days where the question of sacrificing bats to pay up for pitching isn't weighed upon as heavily, as we don't have a plethora of aces toeing the rubber to consider, and the pitchers we do have to work with are a little more reasonably priced. Even with that however, we do have some good arms in favorable spots to consider. On the main slate, Gerrit Cole is the pay up pick on both sites and yet, he isn't even a 10K player on FanDuel. Even with his 11K price tag on DraftKings, there are plenty of mid tier SP2 options to balance out the cost. Since being beat up on for his first two starts of June against the Mets and Marlins for seven runs apiece, Cole has settled into a nice little groove down the stretch. Through his last nine starts, Cole has lasted six to seven innings, allowing one to two runs per game if we ignore the seven runs he surrendered to the Giants on June thirtieth in 5.1 IP. Today he has so much in his favor to lead us to expect he should continue his recent dominance. He will be facing the Padres who have the second worst wOBA against right handed pitching this season, and strikeout 25.3% of the time against righties. Just last Sunday in PetCo Park, Cole held the Padres to just one run on five hits with two free passes while fanning eight batters in a seven inning performance. He picked up the quality start and the win. Today the scene is PNC Park which ranks right up there with PetCo in terms of pitcher friendliness. I expect Cole to continue bringing the heat today in the rematch on his home turf. Drew Pomeranz FD 8600 DK 9000 Opponent - CHW (Shields) Park - @BOSFD - 35.24 DK - 23.17 Skipping down to the next tier we find Red Sox southpaw Drew Pomeranz in the battle of the footwear. The Red Sox are about the surest thing you'll find today as they stand out as huge early favorites from Vegas with...

Pitcher EARLY Jacob deGrom FD 11200 DK 12900 Opponent - SEA (Gallardo) Park - @SEAFD - 36.37 DK - 24.08 After a couple of days with some less than appetizing pitching selections we return to a little bit of stability today with some solid arms throwing in some good spots on both slates. Early on we get Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets headed into Safeco Field to face the Mariners. The Mets are struggling to stay afloat due to a ton of injuries in a division the Nationals have pretty much run away with, but the one constant they have been able to rely on this season has been deGrom. An impressive 12-3 record and 3.30 ERA through 20 starts for the 29 year old now in his fourth season, deGrom ranks among the top ten arms in baseball with a 27.9 K% fanning 10.3 batter per nine innings pitched, and is also sporting a top ten xFIP of 3.45. The matchup isn't ideal, the Mariners don't K a ton (20.9%) and their team wOBA .318 is ranked right about average, but with a pitcher such as deGrom on the hill in one of the games more pitcher friendly parks, I'll happily take deGrom on the short set of early games. MAIN Corey Kluber FD 11900 DK 14000 Opponent - CHW (Gonzalez) Park - @CHWFD - 45.71 DK - 30.25 If deGrom on the early slate didn't help to make up for the past few days pitching options for you, on the main slate we get one Corey Kluber and who could ask for anything more? Kluber has been dominating any offense that crosses his path since returning from the DL earlier this season. In his past seven starts he has allowed a total of seven earned runs, limiting the opposition to one run or less in six of those games, while going into the eighth inning in all but one. Oh, and in the span he has struck out 80 while walking nine. I could go on for days about how incredible Kluber has been in recent weeks, but let's not over look the match up either. Kluber steps to the hill today against the White Sox in a game in...

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Chris Archer FD 10300 DK 11100 Opponent - TEX (Cashner) Park - @TBFD - 39.18 DK - 25.77 Chris Archer struggled with his control just a bit last Sunday walking five Angels in six innings of baseball but did not let that deter him from picking up his fifth quality start in his last six outings. The free passes combined with five hits allowed but Archer remained dominant against the Angels bats, striking out nine batters while only allowing two runs. Despite the effort Archer did not factor into the decision, keeping him from picking up a W for the third time in four starts. Archer will look to regain control tonight in Tampa, against a Rangers team that strikes out 24.3% of the time and has been struggling at the plate recently with a .295 wOBA over the past 14 days. Tampa is a modest -189 favorite with a +1.4 run differential in the early projections making Archer a solid safe pick for our cash game purposes. David Price FD 9600 DK 12300 Opponent - LAA (Ramirez) Park - @LAAFD - 35.52 DK - 23.37 David Price's left arm over the past few weeks is the living embodiment of the flame emoji. Over his last five starts, Price has allowed three earned runs in 33 innings pitched, while sporting a 34/5 K/BB in that span. He completely owned the potent lineup of the Yankees on Sunday holding them scoreless through eight innings on seven hits, cruising to an easy win. Tonight he faces an Angels team that strikes out only 20% of the time, though their .299 wOBA which dips to .291 against southpaws is among the worst in the big leagues. They do have the fortune of having that Mike Trout guy back in the lineup, who's 6 for 18 with two home runs in his first five games back, but once you get past him, there isn't much to fear about the Angels line up. I prefer Archer for the discount on DraftKings, but the upside is there for Price in FanDuel tournaments, or if you just need some bat money. Masahiro Tanaka FD 8800 DK 9400 Opponent - SEA (Miranda) Park - @SEAFD - 32.09 DK - 21.2 If...

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Jeff Samardzija FD 9200 DK 9500 Opponent - SD (Cahill) Park - @SDFD - 38.91 DK - 25.68 We've got it a little easier today in the starting pitcher pool after last night's Ace's galore. There's only one pitcher over 10K on FanDuel, and four on DraftKings, but our top point per dollar play across the board comes in just under on both sites. Jeff Samardzija has run into some bad luck this season, as evidenced by his four wins and 4.58 ERA. Upon closer inspection however, we see the seventh lowest xFIP in the majors at 3.09 and a top 15 ranked 26.2 K%. Add in to the mix a San Diego offense that has been just dreadful this season, striking out 26.1% of the time and sporting a .298 team wOBA. The only thing really playing against the Shark here is the fact that the Giants are a mere -116 favorite, but the K upside more than makes up the difference, and if he does get the W, it could just prove to be icing on the GPP cake, though I'll run Shark in both cash and tournaments. Yu Darvish FD 9900 DK 11300 Opponent - KC (Kennedy) Park - @KCFD - 36.84 DK - 24.38 If you don't feel comfortable swimming with the Shark, then maybe give a look to Yu Darvish. you're going to have to spend up a little more on him, particularly on DraftKings where I question if it's even worth it, though I can see the case on FanDuel. Darvish is right on par with Samardzija in strikeout percentage trailing him with 25.9%, and has a slightly higher 3.92 xFIP. The Rangers are a -.124 favorite, so not much better there either and there really isn't much upside to speak of as the Royals strike out only 20.4% of the time. If you have salary left over after loading your bats and want to move up to Yu in cash on FanDuel, I'm all for it, in tournaments and on DK though, I just can't justify it. Rick Porcello FD 8100 DK 7400 Opponent - NYY (Mitchell) Park - @BOSFD - 30.69 DK - 20.25 Oof. This is awkward. Earlier this week in our midseason busts...

We've got you completely covered.   Pitcher Max Scherzer FD 12100 DK 12900 Opponent - CIN (Castillo) Park - @CIN FD - 16.12 DK - 10.51 While the teams returned to action yesterday giving us decent, but none too stellar starting pitching options, there are some decisions to be made today. We've got several potential Cy Young candidates on the mound beginning with the NL front runner, Max Scherzer. Mad Max begins his second half in Great American ballpark against the Reds, and while this might be a knock on most pitchers, for Scherzer it's just a minor blip on the radar. Scherzer has far too much going in his favor to let a small park deter us from locking him in. He's coming into the day with a 2.10 ERA, the lowest among all qualified pitchers, while also sporting a 0.78 WHIP and 35.5 K%. He's having no problem keeping the ball in the yard this season, his 0.91 HR/9 is among the top ten in baseball as is his 10.2 HR/FB%. The Reds for what it's worth strikeout only 20.8% of the time, which is just below average at this point in the season, but it's not every day they face an arm like Scherzer, capable of striking out 12.13 batters per nine. If you run multiple lineups and want to spread your starting pitching love around then have at it, that's what I'll probably do, but if you're only doing one lineup, you can't go wrong with Max. Corey Kluber FD 11400 DK 12200 Opponent - OAK (Blackburn) Park - @OAK FD - 42.55 DK - 28.1 Speaking of Cy Young candidates, if you were popping into DFSRland over the break you saw our staff picks for MVP, biggest bust, and Cy Young winner through the first half, and my top pitcher was the other CK. Corey Kluber has had an impressive start to the 2017 season, hindered only by some missed time back in May with a back issue. Here's a little snippet of my breakdown on Kluber from the Cy Young article. Kluber possesses the lowest xFIP among qualified starters at 2.65 and is right there with Sale and Scherzer trailing just behind them with a 33.5 K% and walking only 6.1% of the...
