Total Bases Troy Tulowitzki Mike Trout Tulo seems to be atop our total base projections every single day when he's hitting at home, and the system likes him today for good reason. Hughes is a fly ball pitcher who relies on good breaking stuff, and Coors Field is less than kind to pitchers with either of those attributes, much less both. Trout is simply a young Adonis who can hit anyone, who now has the opportunity to face the pitch-to-contact Scott Baker. 32 Ks and 9 walks in 54 innings means Baker is going to allow guys to put balls in play, which makes Trout a must start at either the top of the hits or total bases categories. Hits David Wright Ian Kinsler On the surface, these look like two pretty similar plays. Right handed hitters who crush left handed pitching with the opportunity to face a pretty poor left hander. Ian Kinsler has the more attractive year to date performance, but Wright has a bit going for him as well. Brad Hand is a considerably worse pitcher than Bruce Chen (somehow!), and Wright has actually amassed a batting average over .400 against left handers this year - it's those pesky righties that have been giving him fits. All in all, both of these guys will top my list in the hits category and I won't lose a bit of sleep over it. Strike Outs Francisco Liriano It's tough to match the strikeout upside of Liriano, who Ks more than a guy per inning and has the opportunity to face the Reds, who trot out guys that are hopeless against left handed pitching like Billy Hamilton and Jay Bruce. I'm not...

If you're interested, here are today's daily picks: Check em out. Pitchers Stephen Strasburg FanDuel 8900 DraftKings 10700 DraftStreet 21003 I know he's better at home than on the road and Philadelphia isn't a place pitchers dream about pitching in. But the Phillies are second to last in the league against righty pitching with .288 team wOBA while striking out 21% of the time. Strasburg is in the midst of a Cy Young level season with a little run bad in the Babip. His xFIP is in the mid 2's with a crazy 6:1 K:BB ratio. That he's priced noticeably less than Price and Wainwright is fantastic news. He can be started in all formats. Great play. Jesse Chavez FanDuel 7500 DraftKings 8200 DraftStreet 16569 The Mariners are a middle of the pack team against righties and this game going down in Safeco makes it all the better. Chavez has been a nice, somewhat out of nowhere, addition to the A's staff. He's got solid strikeout stuff, putting down almost a batter an inning. The xFIP is about a half run higher than the ERA so don't get overly fooled here, but he's still a solid option on the mound today. Collin McHugh FanDuel 6900 DraftKings 7900 DraftStreet 14817 Speaking of sort of coming out of nowhere (That's a lot of "of's" in one sentence) we get McHugh who's been striking out guys like he's very much interested in staying in the majors. His 10.18 K/9 is a revelation and he faces the Red Sox, a team ranking in the bottom third of the league in team wOBA against righties. I think this will be a low percentage start today with high upside. That's the perfect scenario for a GPP where you can get some decent separation. Note: McHugh was placed on the DL this AM Mike Minor FanDuel 7100 DraftKings 8000 DraftStreet 16797 Very risky but I think you can pull the trigger if you are looking for some upside. Minor's xFIP is nearly a full run better than...

Total Bases Troy Tulowitzki Carlos Gonzalez This is going to be a teammates version of the ScoreStreak picks, at least in terms of the hitters. Both Tulo and Cargo are in fantastic spots today to collect total bases in bunches. They face Kevin Correia who has one of the highest flyball rates of any qualified pitcher in the majors. That is bad, bad news in a place like Coors where we know the ball travels long distances. Tulo is the safer play of course as he's putting on a hitting display this season that is out of this world. Cargo is a bit riskier and I wouldn't blame you if you went with another of the Rockies lefties like Morneau, Blackmon or Dickerson. All are in play in this category. There is just a big chance the ball is flying out of the park on the regular. Hits Michael Brantley Jason Kipnis I feel like these guys are relatively easy calls in grabbing some points in the hits category. They both face a weaker pitcher in Scott Carroll who strikes out less than five batters per nine. And while he does walk a decent amount of guys, the reduced K rate means significantly more chances at hits and both of these guys are contact hitters. Brantley much more so as he doesn't walk or strike out with any great frequency. He would be my top hits guy today and I don't think it's really that close. Kipnis has a much higher rate in both of those categories, making him a little riskier. But lessening the chance at the K for him means a better chances of rapping one out. I like both of...

If you're interested, here are today's daily picks: Check em out. Pitchers Clayton Kershaw FanDuel 11300 DraftKings 13400 DraftStreet 30505 Let me start by saying that his price on DraftStreet is as high as I can remember ever seeing a salary and I think it's kind of a non-starter. I mean honestly, it's really high everywhere and you'll have to do some finagling if you want to get him in there. That being said, his expectation is about as high as I've seen for any pitcher this season as well. I mean he faces the lowly Padres and Kershaw is, well, Kershaw. He's striking out almost 12 batters per nine, has an xFIP of 1.64 and is just pretty much the best pitcher alive. Even for these salaries there is a case for playing him. That's how good he is. Jon Lester FanDuel 8900 DraftKings 9900 DraftStreet 21207 I think this is the first time I've recommended him this season. It's not that he hasn't been good, his starts just happen to fall on the same days as some other big aces and he gets pushed aside. Today though he's on my radar. The White Sox are 25th in the league in team wOBA against lefties and strikeout 22% of the time. Fenway scares me a little (as does Jose Abreu) but the rest of the Pale Hose just aren't that good and the K potential is high. Bartolo Colon FanDuel 7100 DraftKings 7300 DraftStreet 12868 It honestly seems like he throws a medicine ball to batters when he pitchers. It looks so straight but when they try and hit it the balls looks like it weighs a ton. The Braves, a primarily righty lineup, shockingly also struggle against righties. They rank 27th in the league in team OPS and strike out at a high rate. CitiField helps Colon's cause and the price is pretty advantageous considering he limits the walks and the opponent isn't all that good. Homer Bailey FanDuel 8200 DraftKings 9100 DraftStreet 17927 Readers of these picks...

Total Bases Mike Trout He will show up in this spot a lot. No way around it and you really don’t want to get into the habit of fading him too often. He’s simply too good. And Colby Lewis is simply too bad. Trout’s beasted on righty pitching this season, not caring about your silly little platoon splits. His .977 OPS is built on the back of a .589 slugging percentage. I’m a little concerned about the strikeouts in general, but this is Mike Trout we’re talking about. He could be in our total bases category almost any night. Ryan Braun Ooh David Buchanan is bad and that’s something I love picking on in this format. Braun’s been solid against righties this season so I’m not too worried about the reverse split. He’s posted a mid .800’s OPS which is down primarily because his walk rate has dipped. That’s fine actually as we want his bat on the ball and his slugging against lefties is over .500 which has me excited for his chances at an extra base hit today. Hits There are a few interesting options in this category today. Alex Rios As I wrote in our bigger picks column today, Rios is a lefty masher. He’s been one of the best hitters in the league in this platoon split. Most of the other names above him are superstars like Trout, Tulo, Stanton and McCutchen. And then there’s Rios. A guy who is off a bunch of radars right now mostly because of his issues hitting right handed pitching. Don’t let it bother you. He’s got the lefty Hector Santiago who’s no pushover but is far from elite. Rios’ splits are solid and...
