Nothing has changed in how I feel about Stras except in a positive way. He was dominant last time out and I've been firmly in the camp that he's been massively unlucky this season. He's striking out more than 10.5 batters per nine and walking only two. The D-Backs aren't a cellar-dwelling squad but they're below average against righties. Historically, Stras has pitched better at home and I'm loving him in every format today. To spend significantly less money on him than Scherzer is a no-brainer for me. Hisashi Iwakuma - FD 9200 DK 9900 DD 20250 DFSTR 9700 Iwakuma's been an artist this season as it appears he's made it a religion of some sort to never walk anyone. His 0.78 BB/9 rate is just plain ridiculous. He's benefited a great deal from pitching in Safeco Field and this game is in a much better hitter's park. But the Phillies have been brutal against righties this season coming in at 28th in team wOBA on that side of the split. Iwakuma won't give you an inordinate amount of K's but he makes up for it a bit in volume. Never walking anyone allows him to go later into games. Scott Kazmir - FD 8400 DK 8200 DD 18200 DFSTR 8000 The xFIP is still trailing the ERA by about a half a run and the strikeout numbers won't blow you away, but I'm buying on Kaz today because the Mets are just so, so bad against lefties. They rank second to last in team wOBA and strike out 24% of the time. That latter number is astronomically high and increases Kazmir's K expectation on the day. Things are lining up to make him a decent mid-tier option. Tsuyoshi Wada - FD 6300 DK 7300 DD 11850 DFSTR 5900 His last four starts have been solid and today he's in another nice spot against the Giants. San Fran comes in...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Mike Trout Been up here a lot lately, but that's mostly because he's the best player of his generation. So he has that going for him, which is nice. Had been slumping a bit, but started to come out of it last night. He should have more opportunity to pad his stats with a matchup against Allen Webster today. Webster's been heavy doses of garbage in his time in the majors, walking more than he strikes out and putting up an xFIP in the sixes. Angels should be able to get to him early and often today with Trout doing some major damage in Fenway. Salvador Perez I try not to overrate Coors Field, and I think our system does a decent job of properly weighing Coors' effect on a given player on a given day. So I don't typically just make blanket recommendations about playing guys when they visit Denver. But Salvador's in a good spot against the lefty Matzek. Perez has had a rough go of it against lefties this season thanks in part (but not completely) to a depressed Babip. I think you can play him today with the idea behind separation in a bigger field because I doubt many others will be on him.   Hits Jose Altuve Dude's a hit machine this season. One amazing stat is that against lefties he has an OPS over 1.000 with having hit only three home runs and never taking any walks. That's amazing. This is large part to a contact rate (and inflated Babip) that are off the charts. He's tearing it up this season and lefties just can't get him out. Capuano's been (annoyingly) decent this season,...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Freddie Freeman While Vance Worley has put together a pretty decent ERA this season, our projection system is less than convinced that what we're looking at is the real deal - especially considering the k/9 under 6. Freeman has tattooed right handed pitching for a .393 wOBA this year, making him an easy choice for the top slot. Mike Trout With 48 Ks and 25 BBs in 62 innings, Brandon Workman is also a guy who allows a ton of balls in play. While Trout has been slumping a bit as of late, he's still as good a bet as anyone to put up a monster day at the plate, especially when the pitching match-up is right.   Hits Robinson Cano Kyle Seager With just 47 Ks in 62 IP, Jerome Williams is a fantastic guy to try and sniff out a good hits candidate against. Cano and his .330 batting average is as good a bet as anyone to get a hit on a given night, and I think he piles up a couple against Williams. While Seager isn't quite the hit machine that Cano is, Seattle's lefty heavy offense should give Seager more opportunities to come to the plate - making at least 1 hit feeling more and more likely.   Strikeouts Chris Sale I have to be real with you - it's a lousy day for Strikeouts. I'm not sure I'd bother putting my main guys in the top slot, but I very much like Sale in the next one. While the Orioles have a lot of great right handed hitting, Sale beats the field from a pure stuff perspective by a large margin - which has...

The Braves are the 4th easiest team to strike out in all of the majors. This one has all the makings of a game where Lester goes deep into the game and racks up a lot of Ks in the process. He is opposed by Mike Minor, a talented pitcher who can't seem to get it together this year. A win seems likely. While the price is pretty high, it will be tough to invest more dollars at a better multiplier today. Adam Wainwright - FD 9700 DK 9200 DD 20050 DFSTR 6000 There's still a lot to love about Wainwright today. The guy has been his classic beast of a self (some recent blips aside) - owning some of the very best peripherals and ERA in the league. He's facing Odsrisamer Despaigne, who has managed just 36 Ks against 22 BBs in 59 IP this year. The lineup against him is making a run at one of the worst team wOBA performances ever. I love Wain for both safety and upside. Danny Salazar - FD 7100 DK 7000 DD 13750 DFSTR 0 If you're interested in trying to catch lightning in a bottle, you could do a lot worse than Danny Salazar. Our projection system actually likes him for a similar points output to the aces today, and while I'm not personally quite so bullish, it makes a compelling case. Baltimore does strike out a decent amount, and Kevin Gausman has been a peripheral disaster this year as well. You're running the risk of Salazar sinking your whole squad, but in the chance that he puts it together - you could win your league on the upside of the more expensive bats you could afford. Jake Arrieta - FD 7400 DK 8000 DD 14450 DFSTR 5300 Arrieta has emerged as a star this year, and the Mets are one of the 3 worst hitting teams in the majors. Rafael Montero has been horrendous this...
