Now go win that Tesla!   Total Bases Mike Trout Never stepping out on any kind of limb to pick one of the best (the best?) hitters in baseball to lead out your total bases category. But we don't pick Trout everyday, just the ones where he has a solid matchup. Today is one of them. He faces (somewhat) home run happy Colby Lewis in the Ballpark in Arlington, a hitter's haven through and through. Trout doesn't have issues with platoon splits in that he hits everyone well. His .912 OPS against righties this season is testament enough. Josh Donaldson Just destroys lefty pitching. Crushes lefties souls. Donaldson has tuned up southpaws with a 1.088 OPS and .459 wOBA against them on the season. Today he faces John Danks, a middling lefty, in one of the best hitters parks in U.S. Cellular Field. I'm going to have a lot of exposure to Donaldson today as the historical resume he's put up in this platoon is just too good.   Hits Jose Altuve Whenever he's facing lefties, Altuve is a guy you want in this category. He's next to impossible to strike out (8.9% K rate) and never walks, meaning the ball is in play more often than not when facing a lefty. Today it's Roenis Elias who doesn't have any significant swing and miss stuff. This is kind of no-brainer on the day. Put him up for your two hit category. Erick Aybar Aybar's contact rate is excellent against righty pitching as he strikes out less than 10% of the time and walks less than 6%. That means the ball is in play about 84% of the time when he is facing righty pitching. Combine that with him facing up against mediocre righty pitching with a guy like Colby Lewis and you have a good hit expectation.   Strikeouts Jon Lester Max Scherzer Again, there are some days when these plays are rather easy to make. Granted the...

He's had more than four K's in a game only once in his last four starts. Granted, he faced some teams that don't strike out a ton, but the dip has me just a little iffy on him. But everything else is lining up to start King Felix. He's pitching in Safeco against the Astros who rank in the bottom third of the league against righties and strike out more than 22% of the time. He's going to cost you, but I think he makes a nice cash game play as you should be able to afford his salary. Marcus Stroman - FD 7200 DK 6800 DD 11950 DFSTR 3000 There's actually a decent amount to like with this matchup. The Cubs are pretty bad against righties on the season, and not much of that has changed with the addition of some of the young names they've brought up recently. They strike out a ton, 23% of the time against righties and that kind of K bump for a pitcher means something. Stroman is a -173 favorite today and has been pretty efficient this season with his peripherals. The xFIP is in the low threes and I see him as a good GPP/ 2 SP pitcher today. Shelby Miller - FD 6000 DK 6300 DD 11850 DFSTR 5700 If you feel like he's been starting to fix what ails him, then Miller makes an interesting play against the Reds today. He's struggled this season, especially in generating strikeouts. But he had a...

Now go win that Tesla!   Total Bases Jose Bautista Edwin Encarnacion Jacob Turner crushed a little piece of my sould last time out when he shut down the Brewers. It was by far his best performance and kind of came out of nowhere. I don't like his chances of a repeat performance today against the Blue Jays. Both Bautista and Encarnacion hit righties really well. They have an .873 and .931 OPS on that side of the platoon split and the Rogers Center is one of the better hitter's parks in baseball. By and large Turner's been a below average pitcher this season with an xFIP close to four and strike out rate of only about six batters per nine. I think the Blue Jays get to him today and I'll take the two bats in the middle of the lineup for some extra bases.   Hits Robinson Cano Kyle Seager Brad Peacock is not a good pitcher. While he can get a strikeout or two, he also walks the building and has an xFIP in the mid 4's. The walks are the only concern for me when recommending Seager and Cano today. It's not that I don't think they will have solid days. It's just that when I'm looking for hits specifically, it makes me a little worried playing guys against a wild pitcher. That being said, both Seager and Cano hit righty pitching so well that I think you can run them out there today either in hits or extra bases. Both OPS in the high .800's on this side of the split and have been among the qualified leaders in that platoon this season. Like I said, they could end up walking more times than would be ideal in this prop category. But I'm going to run them nonetheless.   Strikeouts Felix Hernandez This first one is easy with King Felix facing the Astros today in Safeco. Houston comes in the lower third of...

Hamels gets dinged because he has to go up against Gio (so the win is considerably more iffy than the top two guys), but if you want to go a little bit against the grain - there's a nice case here. The Nationals are the 8th most striking-outest team in the league, after all! Plus, a lot of their best hitters are left handed. All in all, this is a riskier play - but it's definitely one that could pay off. Also considered: Gio Gonzalez, Gerrit Cole   Catchers Evan Gattis - FD 2500 DK 4000 DD 8400 DFSTR 3000 To be honest, I'm hesitant to even recommend any other catchers tonight, because this match-up is just too freaking good. If you haven't read our picks in the past, you might not know that Gattis has a downright Bondsian .469 wOBA against left handed pitching this year (which is good for a 1.094 OPS). AND! You might not know that Brad Hand is one of the least qualified left handed people in the world to pitch in the major leagues. Okay, that might be overdoing. But he's still super bad. This won't be pretty. Derek Norris - FD 2400 DK 3200 DD 6900 DFSTR 3000 If you must look away from Gattis, I suppose you could do worse than gazing in Derek Norris' direction. The man's got a .398 wOBA against lefties himself, and absolutely has power to spare. But he's not as good as Gattis, and Keuchel is better than Hand. Why are you even continuing to read this....

Now go win that Tesla!   Total Bases Mike Trout It hasn't been the greatest start to this whole major league pitching thing for Logan Darnell, and it isn't about to get any better. He'll take on Trout and the Angels on Sunday, and when Trout marches to the plate, it might be the mismatch of the season. You can take Trout for hits or total bases, but just make sure he's topping one of your lists. Edwin Encarnacion The way E5 has been slamming the ball recently, he probably doesn't require a ton of explanation here. But I'll humor you. Not only does he have 3 homers in the last week, he's actually crushed right handed pitching this year more than he has left. He'll be squaring off against Rubby De La Rosa - the very definition of "generic bad pitcher" - and chicks who dig the long ball should tune in here and take in the magic. Hits Howie Kendrick Kendrick never turned into a super star, but one thing the man can do is get a hit or two. His high effort, high BABIP approach will be perfect to match up against the stuff-less Darnell. The only risk here is that Darnell gets chased before Kendrick can get his requisite plate appearances! Buster Posey Posey is one of the true lefty mashers in the game, and with 13 Ks and 8 BBs in 17 IP this year, this "Kyle Lobstein" fellow isn't doing anything to scare me off taking the Giants catcher anywhere and everywhere. Strikeouts Julio Teheran Teheran is an interesting guy for the top K slot, because chances are pretty slim that he'll actually drum up the 9 you need to win the day. My suggestion? Take a serious boom or bust guy in your top slot, and fit Teheran in that 2nd slot. The Marlins strike...
