Total Bases Freddie Freeman While Vance Worley has put together a pretty decent ERA this season, our projection system is less than convinced that what we're looking at is the real deal - especially considering the k/9 under 6. Freeman has tattooed right handed pitching for a .393 wOBA this year, making him an easy choice for the top slot. Mike Trout With 48 Ks and 25 BBs in 62 innings, Brandon Workman is also a guy who allows a ton of balls in play. While Trout has been slumping a bit as of late, he's still as good a bet as anyone to put up a monster day at the plate, especially when the pitching match-up is right. Hits Robinson Cano Kyle Seager With just 47 Ks in 62 IP, Jerome Williams is a fantastic guy to try and sniff out a good hits candidate against. Cano and his .330 batting average is as good a bet as anyone to get a hit on a given night, and I think he piles up a couple against Williams. While Seager isn't quite the hit machine that Cano is, Seattle's lefty heavy offense should give Seager more opportunities to come to the plate - making at least 1 hit feeling more and more likely. Strikeouts Chris Sale I have to be real with you - it's a lousy day for Strikeouts. I'm not sure I'd bother putting my main guys in the top slot, but I very much like Sale in the next one. While the Orioles have a lot of great right handed hitting, Sale beats the field from a pure stuff perspective by a large margin - which has...

Total Bases Ryan Braun Braun hasn't quite been himself this year, but that shouldn't matter against Dan Haren. For all of his ability to avoid allowing walks, what's left of Haren's stuff simply isn't enough to keep the elite bats in the league off of the bases. His major weakness is the long ball, which is nice, since what we're looking for from the top spot is the long ball. Haren has fewer than 1 K or BB per 9 innings, which means that Braun ought to get a few balls in play, and hard hit ones at that. Mike Trout With 43 Ks and 24 BBs in 79 innings, Tepesch is also a guy who allows a ton of balls in play. Watching Trout march to the plate will have to feel akin to watching the middle school bully round the corner and get that sickening smile on his face. Trout doesn't care if you're right handed, left handed, or ambidextrous - and he'll have a ton of opportunity to go off today. Hits Joe Mauer Danny Santana Mauer tops the hits projections today, and for good reason. Even as he enters his decline phase, he's firing off line drives and registering his trademark high BABIP - .335 this year. The question for Mauer at this stage in his career is the strikeouts. He doesn't strike out a ton or anything, but certainly more than many guys we recommend in the hits category. That's why today makes for such a happy marriage. Guthrie's 5.82 K/9 is awful, and Mauer should have plenty of opportunity here. Santana, like Mauer, plays for the Twins. It's no coincidence then that he will be...

Total Bases Mark Trumbo Doug wrote this about Trumbo last night when he was facing Tyler Matzek, and it still holds water tonight as he faces Jorge De La Rosa. Different day, different awful Colorado lefty. Enjoy Doug's wisdom: Going a little off board with the total bases today, but contrarian plays when they are +EV is a way to really gain separation in a set up like ScoreStreak where the margins are razor thin. Trumbo is much better on lefty platoon side of the split facing off against lefty Tyler Matzek. Chase Field in Arizona lends itself to power upside for righties. It's no Coors, but not too far behind. Trumbo rates out near the top of our system today and I almost guarantee you're the only person in your match playing the dude (unless they read this as well). Miguel Cabrera I love Scorestreak if only because it allows me to play my dear friend Miggy. This pick may look a little strange on the surface - Cabrera is undoubtedly better against left handers, and Stroman has been good this year. If you want to snag a Colorado lefty here, I couldn't blame you. But I'm sticking with Mr. Reliable in my second total bases slot today, and figuring that Miggy's big bat can come through with a double or better. Hits Robinson Cano Cano has been absolutely peppering the ball recently, and Hector Noesi is one of the very worst pitchers in the game. Cano is a pure hitter, and when he's facing a righty of Noesi's caliber, he'll be in my lineup every time. Starling Marte I'm feeling Marte here for a couple of reasons. Stults is a classic...

Total Bases There is a tight grouping of guys in our system today. Hard to pick the top guy. Nelson Cruz If you're young, you might not realize that some fringe contingents used to think that JA Happ was going to be a good pitcher. Those days are long gone, and much to his dismay he'll have to see Nelson Cruz step into the batter's box today. Cruz has posted a .983 OPS vs. all left handed pitchers this year, and that includes actual good ones. Easy call for me for the top spot for total bases. Hits Justin Morneau A lot to love about Morneau today. He's a sneaky candidate for guys who don't work or strike out - just 17% of his at bats end without a ball in play - and that number rates to be even better against the pitch-to-contact Hendricks. It's really the perfect scenario for a hits play, all things considered. Miguel Cabrera Our projection system simply doesn't think Shane Greene can hold Cabrera off base in this one. Probably not much else that needs to be said. Strikeouts No recommendation for the top slot today. I'll be offering picks for the 7 K and 6 K slots, and going for a homerun with someone yet to be determine in the top slot. Jon Lester Lester is the top strike out play by some distance today, and it basically comes down to this: Lester can go deep into games, and the Twins are the 7th easiest team in the majors to strike out. We good? Good. Homer Bailey Woof. It's not a great day for strike outs, guys. Bailey edges out a fairly mediocre class today...

Total Bases Miguel Cabrera Ian Kinsler The Rockies send out the next in their never ending stream of awful left handed pitchers - Jorge De La Rosa. He's allowed a .352 wOBA (and an .810 OPS) against all right handed hitters this year, and Cabrera and Kinsler are a cut above "all right handed hitters." Both of them can absolutely destroy any left handed pitchers, and De La Rosa is a heck of a lot worse than most left handed pitchers. You can make a case that Kinsler is a safer hits play than total bases play, but if all you need is 2 TB from him he seems like an excellent guy to throw out there. Hits Adrian Beltre Beltre has a most favorable draw today - the young and raw Trevor Bauer. Beltre is a terrific hits play because of his high batting average and low walk rate, and while he'd prefer to face a lefty, he is actually faring better against right handed pitching this season. Robinson Cano I went back and forth on this one quite a bit, but ultimately landed on Robinson Cano. Here's the scoop: Chris Tillman has struck out less than 6 guys per inning, and Cano is an awfully tough guy to walk. While Cano hasn't had much of a season by his standards, he can still barrel up a mistake, and Tillman is more than prone to making them. Strikeouts Yu Darish Stephen Strasburg There's no discussion as to whether these guys should top your ScoreStreak team's K picks today - the only discussion is around who should come first. Me? I'm going against the grain and going with Strasburg. The Phillies have...
