Pitchers Jordan Zimmermann - FD 8500 DK 9600 DD 17350 DFSTR 6900 The pitching in the early slate is rough to say the least. I'm going to go safe as possible in cash games with Zimmermann. His peripherals this season have been outstanding with around a 5.5:1 K:BB ratio that keeps him around in games late. He's gone into the seventh in his last five starts and today faces a Giants squad coming in the bottom half of the league in team wOBA against righties. I wouldn't consider Zimmermann a sure thing, but his control has him in ballgames and the Nats are favorite today for the win (though not huge ones). Hiroki Kuroda - FD 6900 DK 7400 DD 12850 DFSTR 5200 It feels real gross, but he's the favorite to get the win with Scott Carroll on the bump for the White Sox. He's not going to light the world on fire, but at his prices it doesn't seem like he'd completely sink the ship either. The White Sox are a decent hitting team, but they're prone to K as they go down on strikes 22% of the time against righties. There's risk here for sure, but on a slate of garbage arms I'll take the guy with the control and hope for the best. Consider Tim Lincecum if you want to shoot K's, though he could get bombed. Catchers Brian McCann - FD 2900 DK 3800 DD 7950 DFSTR 7500 Going to be picking on Scott Carroll a lot in this early slate. Why? Because he's garbage, that's why. He strikes out less than five batters per nine and walks close to four. McCann's season's been pretty forgettable, but a .216 Babip will do that to most anyone. Luck hasn't been on his side this season, but it's hard to avoid him in this early slate of games considering the prices, park and matchup. Consider going even cheaper with Alex Avila First Basemen Mark Teixeira - FD 2800 DK 3900 DD 8850 DFSTR 3900 Like I said, let's get all over Scott...

Total Bases Giancarlo Stanton No surprise here really. Stanton's having an incredible season posting a .970 OPS and that .267 ISO remains one of the elite numbers in the whole game. One of the big breakthroughs for him this year is his success against righty pitching as his 153 wRC+ and .395 wOBA show a dude seeing things pretty well in that side of the split. He's playing in Coors which as we all know has paper thin air and allows balls to travel out with alarming regularity. Don't like him as much as yesterday, but he's still the total bases favorite in the evening slate. Marcel Ozuna Digging a little deeper here. Of would have been had he not put on a show last night in Coors. He won some folks (us) some cash for sure as his eighth inning grand slam really sealed the deal. I'm will to buy him for total bases again even on the wrong side of his split because the ballpark just boosts everything everywhere. Jordan Lyles isn't as trashy as Franklin Morales, and does generate some groundballs. But overall this is a good place to keep targeting Coors. Hits Ben Revere Very quietly Ben Revere has amasses one million hits this season. He's among the league leaders in the category thanks to a low K rate and and even lower walk rate. This guy hates free things and walks only 2% of his at bats. You won't see many hitters with a number that low. His contact rate and speed is in play here against Shelby Miller who's been a little bit of trash this season. He can't strike anyone out and really struggles...

Pitchers Felix Hernandez - FD 11000 DK 12500 DD 21150 DFSTR 11300 Our projection system is a lot more bullish on the Red Sox than I am. I think the writing is on the wall – these guys are throwing in the towel this season. With a 20.8% strikeout rate (that makes them the 12th easiest team in the majors to strike out) and a pathetic .305 wOBA that’s 2nd worst in the AL, I think Felix goes deep and racks up a very nice number of Ks tonight. Joe Kelly also gives the Ms a nice chance for a win. Nice play all around. Adam Wainwright - FD 9700 DK 9700 DD 19900 DFSTR 6300 The Phillies are like a worse version of the Red Sox – but Wainwright isn’t quite the pitcher Felix is. The Phillies have a worse wOBA (.296!) than the Sox, and strike out more as well. All systems are go for a very nice Wainwright performance. Kyle Kendrick is pretty horrendous in his own right, so Wainwright is also in position for a win. Mat Latos - FD 7800 DK 8700 DD 15250 DFSTR 6500 There's some risk here of course, but he's a slight favorite against the Braves who rank 26th in the league against righty pitching. Atlanta strikes out more than 22% of the time and just generally struggles in this platoon split. Again, Great American Ballpark is a bit bandbox-y, but Latos has gone at least seven innings in three of his last four starts. Mike Minor - FD 6800 DK 6900 DD 12500 DFSTR 4600 On the other side of the ball? mound? field? is Minor who finally started putting it together last game against Oakland. His xFIP is still one and a half runs lower than his ERA. He's striking out more than eight batters per nine and keeping the walks relatively low. This is more your upside GPP play considering the prices. Also considered: Yovani Gallardo, Sonny Gray Catchers Miguel Montero - FD 2400 DK 3400 DD 8200 DFSTR 3000 The price has gotten stupid on Montero,...

And try out our partner ScoreStreak and our exclusive exclusive ScoreStreak picks. Pitchers Short slates all around today. Going to keep this brief. One play per position per slate. Thursday is a day of rest around these parts. Early Corey Kluber - FD 10700 DK 11400 DD 21400 DFSTR 14000 Though our system isn't as high on him as I thought it'd be but I'm still taking him at the stud in the early slate of games. Kluber's been a Cy Young contender this season rocking a 2.69 xFIP and striking out 9.89 batters per nine. The peripherals are insane with a 5:1 K:BB ratio that allows him to work later into games. He's pitched into the eighth inning in five of his last eight games and that kind of efficiency makes him feel super safe for cash games. The Twins aren't dogs against righty pitching, but they do strike out more than 21% of the time. Consider Brandon McCarthy Late Zack Greinke - FD 9700 DK 10600 DD 19450 DFSTR 8700 Going to be an obvious and popular play but for good reason. Greinke's been awesome this season, finding his 2011 form striking out close to ten batters per nine and keeping the walks to around two per nine. Those numbers are super efficient and allow him to go late in games. Though they've hit better of late, there's a reason the Padres rank last in the league against righty pitching. Yes they've been unlucky, but that doesn't completely account for the .286 team wOBA against righties this season. They strikeout 22% of the time, and Greinke is a huge favorite today. This one's easy. On a day full of corrections, here's another one. Greinke isn't pitching today. It's Kershaw. The price is much higher but the value is still there IMO. Makes salaries tougher though. Strongly consider Madison Bumgarner here as well. Catchers Early Wilson Ramos - FD 3000 DK 3800 DD 8950 DFSTR 4500 This one's a little bit of a stretch but I really want to avoid some of the bigger ace arms going in this early slate. Not having to throw guys out there against Kluber,...

Total Bases FYI, with such a gap in games today and such a short slate, I'm focusing mostly on the shorter, later slate for these picks. I like to play it safe. Mike Trout Getting a little old recommending him every day, especially when he doesn't always get the job done. But that's the story with MLB DFS. You need to play the percentages on any give day. Baseball is a fickle sport and is prone to streaks. I tend to not play too much into the streakiness of a player (unless it's a bad one possibly related to injury). Trout remains an ultimate talent and today faces a subpar pitcher in Rubby de la Rosa. I'm all over Trout again in the total bases category. Evan Gattis This guy just murders lefty pitching, and David Holmberg is just the kind of lefty to pick on. Gattis' numbers this season are off the charts with a 1.133 OPS against lefties. His insanely high Babip (well over .400) has something to do with that, but you can't have a number that high on luck alone. He crushes lefties for his career as well and this is a great spot to pick up some separation as I think some more folks will be on Upton (also a solid play). I'll take Gattis and look to pull away from the field. Hits Buster Posey Hunter Pence Both of these guys hit lefties much better for their careers and Posey is especially difficult for lefties to strike out. They get a great matchup against Travis Wood who doesn't strike many batter out (walks a few more than I'm comfortable with in this format) and could...
