Kind of making that number up, but it’s meant to illustrate that the pitching decisions today are real tough, and real close. Our system is having trouble picking out a clear cut favorite. There a good plays, but no one ringing it a fantastic multiplier considering price and opponent. Johnny Cueto - FD 10300 DK 9300 DD 19000 SS 30400 Going to be real tough fitting Kershaw into any team you make today unless you want to punt offense nearly across the board. I’m willing to spend on Cueto though even if his ERA is a full run lower than the xFIP (2.08 to 3.08). Our system doesn’t recognize this kind of difference, but it does pick up on the idea that Cueto is a little higher priced because of the run-hot ERA. We aren’t getting him at any kind of discount. That being said, he’s putting together a great season striking out more than a batter an inning, keeping the walks down and continuing to rock the dreads. The Marlins have power, but with that comes a ton of K’s. If Cueto can keep the ball in the ballpark (easier in Miami than in most places) he could rack up a ton of points on strikeouts. Yordano Ventura - FD 7000 DK 6400 DD 13700 SS 17700 We are dabbling around the margins of value for sure today. Like I said, the pitching will be spread out today as everyone works to find those little pieces of info that will help inform decisions about who to start on the mound. Yordano makes a cheaper play who doesn’t necessarily have a ton of upside, but can earn you enough points for a cash. His xFIP is in the mid 3’s and he strikes out about eight batters per nine. He can limit the walks and the Twins are a middle-of-the-road wOBA team against righties. They strike out 21% of the time and Kaufman Stadium depresses power all the way around....

Pitchers Jesse Hahn - FD 6900 DK 9300 DD 16400 SS 27800 Hahn is putting together a fantastic season. Too bad it’s on a terrible team that can rarely get him any wins. If it weren’t for that little (kind of big) issue I’d be even higher on the guy. But he’s got a chance to grab one against Joe Kelly and the Cardinals today. The Cards are below average against righty pitching and while they don’t K a ton, they also have very little power. This latter piece will show itself even more going in San Diego. Hahn’s K-ing more than a batter an inning. The xFIP is a run behind his crazy low ERA, but it’s not dissuading me any. Zack Greinke - FD 9800 DK 10600 DD 19000 SS 30000 The Braves stink against righty pitching. In some ways this play feels a little safer than Hahn in that Greinke might be a bit more in line for a win (though I think Alex Wood is still decent). Greinke’s been fantastic this season with an xFIP well under two and striking out more than a batter an inning. Oh, and did I mention that the Braves stink against righties? Strongly consider Alex Wood on the bounceback   Catchers Brian McCann - FD 2900 DK 4200 DD 7300 SS 5300 Was getting tired out getting burned by Yankees. They couldn’t get to Nick Martinez early, but turned it on later. Colby Lewis isn’t as bad as Martinez, but he still isn’t good. The park in Arlington caters to hitters and McCann’s prices are still in the buy zone. He’s remained consistently low thanks to some bad luck to start the season. His Babip is low, but the batted ball profile remains in line with his career averages. Wilin Rosario - FD 3000 DK 4100 DD 7500 SS 6600 One of the best hitting catchers when it comes to facing lefties, Rosario has the advantage of playing half of his games in the atmospheric equivalent of a zero-gravity chamber. That's fine in a situation like ScoreStreak in which they've eliminated the salary constraints. It doesn't always mean we should just throw these guys out there on a given day just because of their names. But today it makes sense with them facing Kevin Gausman and Hector Noesi respectively. Both pitchers are lower K guys with mid 4's xFIPs. Cabrera and Trout don't need to be targeted in platoon split situations because they are Hall of Fame talents who still rake, rake, and rake some more. Like I said before, the chalk line in ScoreStreak can be a solid play on a given day and this is a great spot to utilize the lack of salaries.   Hits Tigers or Yankees I really never make blanket statements like this, but these two teams are all over the top of the list from our system and I'm having trouble delineating among their respective upsides. But guys like Ian Kinsler, Torii Hunter, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner, and even Austin Jackson offer shots at multiple hits in their matchups. To make a case for one guy over another is tough considering their projections all fall in a similar range. If a gun were at my head (which one really is) I'd lean toward the Tigers only because Colby Lewis has a little more strikeout potential.   Strikeouts Max Scherzer David Price Holy moly today's a tough day to play ScoreStreak. Typically our system does a nice job separating the clear plays on a given slate. It's not the case today. In each of the categories there are solid options and they all fall within a few decimals of each other for the respective outcomes. Strikeouts are no different with these two guys narrowly edging out King Felix, who I suppose you can include in the last spot. Picking the dude to hit nine K's though is tough. I don't see anyone as a clear favorite from that...

Trout is a generational talent. That we already know. His OPS is close to 1.000 and he's good enough on even the reverse side of the split that I don't worry about the righty-righty matchup. Tillman sucks. He's struggling this season with a 5.70 K/9 and xFIP in the mid 4's. Trout is basically a baseball God dressed in a mortal's uniform. Corey Dickerson Wondering where he ranks in terms of qualified batters against righty pitching this season? Number one with a 1.032 OPS. Even with an inflated Babip, that number is no joke and outranks a bunch of other guys you'd label as "superstars". He's having an incredible season, no way about it. Today he faces off against Edwin Jackson who has a tendency to get bombed all over the ballpark.   Hits Jacoby Ellsbury Our system has loved him all season long and while I think his outward projections are a little inflated, there's no denying that his stock today should be considerably higher than normal. Nick Martinez is total trash and yes, I know he held the Yankees scoreless last time around. It was an aberration. Martinez K's less the four batters per nine and walks the same amount. His xFIP is in the high fives. I'm all over this play. Ben Revere Not a guy I've ever played before, but our system likes him today against Dillon Gee. Revere has two specific things going for him in this format. He never ever walks. And he rarely strikes out. Both of these outcomes combines to about 10% of his at bats. That means the other 90% of the time the ball is getting put in play. That's exactly what we are looking for when we can get paid just on hits.   Strikeouts Stephen Strasburg Going for nine K's here without even thinking twice about it. I'll be talking more about Strasburg in our other picks today, but he makes a sensational start...

But Beltre has been serviceable on this side of the split this season with an OPS in the mid .800’s and a 134 wRC+. That’s good enough for me against David Phelps, a league average pitcher at best. The one thing concerning me about this play is Phelps’ BB rate is a little higher than I’d like from an opponent in this format. More walks means less chances to hit. But overall, with the margins thin today you can use Beltre in this format. Todd Frazier I’m nearly positive this will be the first and last time I recommend this guy. But like I said, today’s slate is about as tough as it’ll ever get from an offensive perspective. Frazier is on the wrong side of the platoon splits, but he’s fine against righties, stronger this season than in years past. I like him in a hitter’s park against Chase Anderson.   Hits Pablo Sandoval Big Panda doesn’t walk a whole bunch and keeps the strikeouts on the lower side against righties which has me considering him for the total hits category today. The big upshot for Sandoval in this format is that Vance Worley has a relatively low K rate combined with a crazy low BB rate. These two stats point to Panda getting his bat on the ball enough to at least raise the hits expectation. Starlin Castro Really digging deep on this one. But Castro, hitting in the middle of the order and being slightly better on the lefty side of his platoon split is a guy who could scratch out a hit or two today. Yohan Flande stinks and doesn’t strike anyone out. So Castro has that going for him as well. Man today is tough.   Strikeouts Madison Bumgarner Things are a little clearer on the pitching side of things. Bumgarner makes a...
