He's a favorite against Ryan Vogelsong and the Giants who rank in the bottom third of the league against lefty pitching. They strike out a fair amount in that split and don't offer a ton in the way of power. Sale's been magnificent this season striking out more than ten batters per nine, walking less than two and carrying an xFIP well under three into this one. Even for the money I'm willing to roll him into cash games for the expected safety. Adam Wainwright - FD 9900 DK 9500 DD 20550 SS 29100 This is more a DraftKings pick. I wouldn't do him on FanDuel as he's so close in salary to Sale and the latter is a much better play. But where he's priced significantly lower than Sale I think you can consider him against the Marlins. His ERA is well outpacing his xFIP but the Marlins strike out a ton against righty pitching and Marlins Park keeps down power. Wainwright has been lucky this season for sure, but where the price is right you can roll him out there. The waters get pretty murky after these two dudes. Collin McHugh - FD 7400 DK 8700 DD 16800 SS 24100 He offers some upside, especially in the strikeout department against the Twins who K more than 21% of the time against righties. Minnesota can hit a little, so it isn't a dream matchup, but McHugh's racked up the K numbers this season putting down more than ten batters per nine and keeping his xFIP in the low threes. Makes a nice GPP play or a second starter on 2 SP sites. Your Hail Mary types: C.J. Wilson - FD 6800 DK 6300 DD 12600 SS 18200 Mike Minor - FD 6400 DK 6700 DD 11950 SS 17600 Both of these guys face teams near the bottom of the league against lefties in the Phillies and Dodgers. Both of these dudes can walk the ballpark and get bombed on the regular. But they...

Total Bases Mike Trout With so many good arms on the mound today we want to make sure we avoid “real” starters whenever possible. Thankfully Jerome Williams isn’t one of those guys. Though not as bad as his 6.07 ERA would suggest, dude still doesn’t strike many batters out and is a bit prone to the long ball. Mike Trout doesn’t need to worry about platoon splits. He chooses to destroy both hands with the same reckless abandon. Will be in one of my top two slots for sure. Mark Trumbo Probably a little off board here, but if you read these posts you know our system loves the guy against lefties. He has a career mid .800’s OPS against lefties and I like slotting guys like him in the bigger ScoreStreak six-man competitions when possible because I think it allows for a little separation. T.J. House is decidedly average and though the ballpark is completely ideal, I’ll still take Trumbo here. Hits Victor Martinez When I’m sniffing out hits on a daily basis one of the main things I’m looking at are contact rates. I want to know a batter has a solid chance of getting the ball in play. Babip lets us know that they won’t always turn into hits, but increasing the expectation is the first place to start. V-Mart is one of those guys. He’s nearly impossible to strike out (less than 8% of the time against righties) and Edinson Volquez isn’t an overpowering pitcher. This is a nice matchup for Martinez. Martin Prado Weren’t expecting this name were you? This is why you come here though. To...

In some ways that makes me want to just chuck Felix out there and hope. But he’s also facing the top righty hitting team in baseball. And you’d be paying so much for very little upside considering the matchup. But honestly the guys below him are all in tough matchups as well or just aren’t that good to begin with (or both). I think I’m of the mind to just populate lineups with the top end hitters on the day, spending as much as possible on value bats and then rotate a cast of losers through the pitching slots on the hopes one will come through with a Hail Mary. So long story short, let it be known that I don’t feel super about any of these guys. Yovani Gallardo - FD 6900 DK 7300 DD 14600 SS 21600 Makes the most interesting mid-tier guy on the day mostly considering the matchup. The Cubbies rank near the very bottom of the league in team wOBA against righties and just generally stink in that platoon. They strike out a lot throughout the lineup (outside of Rizzo) and the bottom of the order becomes a black hole real quick. Gallardo’s peripherals aren’t solid with only about seven K’s per nine a walk rate that doesn’t allow him a lot of room for error. It’s dicey, but his salary gets some heavy hitters in your lineup, and there is a chance he goes seven innings with some strikeouts and the win. Drew Hutchison - FD 6300 DK 6000 DD 12350 SS 18900 The Mariners are a middle of the road team against righties and don’t possess a whole lot of power that allows a game to get out of hand quickly. Safeco keeps down power and Hutchison’s strikeout rate is fine enough. The big problem here is that the win expectation is so low facing King Felix. Dan Haren - FD 6800 DK 5700 DD 12850 SS 16000 This is a real roll of the dice....

Total Bases Nelson Cruz Chris Capuano has kept up an 8.17 K/9 which is slightly higher than his career average with an xFIP right around four. All told, he's an ok pitcher but not someone we'd expressly avoid in any scenario. Especially when we're talking about Nelson Cruz who's systematically mashed lefty pitching this season with a 162 wRC+. The only thing scaring me off Cruz in this format is that he does walk a ton against lefty pitching, something we aren't interested in at all in this format. That being said, the upside is too great considering the platoons and the ballpark. Adrian Beltre Could honestly go Adam Jones here as well and I'll have shares of both Orioles today. But it's worth throwing out Beltre as well considering the spot he's in against Smyly. Beltre's wOBA is close to .400 against lefties this season with an OPS in the mid .900's. Smyly doesn't have big swing and miss stuff which keeps Beltre's total base expectation high. And don't forget about the ballpark in Arlington boosting power all around. Hits Ben Zobrist James Loney Going for a pair of teammates in this spot today. Both face Colby Lewis in the Texas. Lewis isn't as bad as the 5.50 ERA (xFIP a full run lower) but he's still no good. He doesn't strike out more than eight batters per nine and has some big time nuclear disaster blow up in him. Both Zobrist and Loney have solid contact rates against righties and should have the ball in play today. I'm happy to pick on Lewis in this spot and there's definitely some benefit to having a mini-stack even in the ScoreStreak format especially...

But that’s how we do in the DFSR. This machine doesn’t stop. Even with a non-displaced fracture to the left fibula. So please excuse us if these picks are bit truncated, medical situations and all. Pitchers Alex Cobb - FD 8300 DK 8300 DD 15000 SS 25200 Cobb's been pretty solid this season with his most dramatic change coming from an increased strikeout rate. He's facing a Cub team that’s been abhorrent against righty pitching, ranking near the bottom of the league in team wOBA and striking out around 22% of the time. Zack Wheeler - FD 7700 DK 8400 DD 14800 SS 21500 Wheeler’s been about average this season which is fine when facing the Phillies who would love to be just average. They stink and come in at second to last in the league in facing righties. Wheeler needs to have his control on point in order to be truly dominant. The K stuff is there, but he walks too many guys. That being said, I’m buying here on the opponent as much as anything. Alex Wood - FD 7700 DK 7000 DD 15000 SS NA Our system is really liking the value on Wood today though I must admit I’m not totally seeing it. Could simply be a pricing thing as the Nats are actually decent against lefties. Wood is good though, striking out close to a batter an inning and sporting an xFIP in the low 3’s. Charlie Morton - FD 6800 DK 6300 DD 13000 SS 18400 Morton is merely *meh but I’m considering buying here on the opponent. I know the Padres have had a moment of two or late. But they remain a terrible offensive team who’ve decided to not be the worst Babip-ing team in the history of the world anymore. Consider Jason Hammel coming real cheap and Clayton Kershaw who is real expensive against the K-happy Brewers. Catchers Devin Mesoraco - FD 3200 DK 4000 DD 8450 SS 7700 Great ballpark....
