As in, I'm scared he might be hiding under my bed tonight. With 90 Ks in 75 IP, and facing the elderly and generally bad Phillies offense, Strasburg is easily the highest upside play for any format. David Price FanDuel 9200 DraftKings 10500 DraftStreet 21789 A distant 2nd to Stras in my mind, but Price will still get a lot of run today. These aren't the Marlins of last year, but they can still strike out a ton, and Price can strike out a ton of guys. 90 Ks against 9 walks! Price is having one of his best peripheral seasons yet, and the bad luck has really eaten into what should be a phenomenal ERA. The guy price is facing has had the opposite luck, and has used a worse than pedestrian smoke and mirrors routine to eek out an excellent ERA. I love Price for the win, and all the goodies that come with it. Josh Beckett FanDuel 7500 DraftKings 9600 DraftStreet 17004 If you are targeting a lot of expensive hitters today, you may want to consider one Josh Beckett. He's striking out nearly a guy per inning, he's facing what's left of John Danks, and in a terrific place to pitch. Now, there's real downside to playing Beckett. The White Sox have some guys who can really hit righties. But who cares? If you're targeting cheaper upside, Beckett makes a nice play. Also considered: Tony Cingrani, but I like the guys above much better.   Catchers Buster Posey FanDuel 3600 DraftKings 4300 DraftStreet 6533 When the Giants face a lefty, Posey inevitably tops the catcher charts. While he hasn't shown it this year, Posey is one of the true lefty-killers in the game. He's put together a near 1.000 OPS against lefties for his career, and while Cingrani is a nice pitcher - it really doesn't matter how nice you are...

Today's picks are brought to you by new DFSR contributor Mike AKA Spetty.   Total Bases Adam Jones Nelson Cruz and Adam Jones were #1 and 1A based on our projections, however Nelson Cruz was hit on the wrist with a pitch on Sunday and though the x-rays came back negative, I’m erring on the side of caution and recommending Jones as nothing will sap power more than a wrist injury. If I were confident that Cruz’s wrist was completely fine, he’d be my clear-cut top pick. Though Jones is not historically a lefty-masher, he has been smashing them this year to the tune of a .536 wOBA and a .340 ISO and will be facing off against the terrible Joe Saunders. Though Saunders gets crushed by everyone, he’s particularly putrid against right-handed batters, as evidenced by his wOBA of .409, 1.43 HR/9 and 4.50 K/9 vs right-handed batters last season (Saunders has only started two games this year so it’s too small of a sample size to carry any weight). Given Jones’ recent success vs LHP’s and Saunders’ struggles against RHB’s, Jones may be lucky if he’s not arrested for assault and battery after what he does to Saunders tonight. Miguel Cabrera Miggy can hit anyone on any given day, and that’s the bottom line. Though Miggy is historically better vs. lefties, he’s still one of the best hitters in baseball vs all pitchers regardless of their handedness. In fact, he...

Pitchers Gerrit Cole FanDuel 8100 DraftKings 9100 DraftStreet 17742 Gerrit will be looking to put coal(Cole, get it!?) in the stocking of Jesse Hahn and the Dads in his first start as a major leaguer. I mean, the young guy has shown promise and everything... but he threw pitches in Rookie Ball last year. He just isn't ready for the big show, in my opinion, and while anything can happen in a given baseball game, Cole and the Pirates look very well lined up for a win. Throw in the Padres and their league worst 184 runs scored this year, and you have a terrific match-up for the budding ace. C.J. Wilson FanDuel 8500 DraftKings 11100 DraftStreet 22147 The Astros are 2nd worst at run scoring in the AL, and have a handful of guys that can really strike out - especially against lefties. Wilson is prone to the odd bad game, but he can also post a monster when the conditions are right. He's facing off against Colin McHugh (see the pick below!), but we can't get scared away from a matchup against a bad team because of 45 IP from a young pitcher. Chris Archer FanDuel 7500 DraftKings 7400 DraftStreet 17968 The Marlins aren't the doormat they once were when it comes to hitting, but they are considerably worse against right-handers, and Archer can strike a brother out. Let's be clear - this is basically an upside play, as Archer can definitely go off the rails from time to time. Opposing Archer is Henderson Alvarez, who has been incredibly lucky ERA-wise this year. It's not for the faint of heart, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Archer was up there with the...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Ryan Braun The best hitter facing the worst pitcher. If you need a simpler equation than that, well you've come to wrong place. I can't make is any easier. Kyle Gibson doesn't strike anyone out. That alone gives Braun a big boost in expectation for his total bases. He'll be putting the bat on the ball. Additionally, because Gibson is trash, the Brewers stand to have an extra at bat (or two) on the day as the lineup turns over. Braun has been sizzling lately and this matchup shouldn't cool him off too much. David Ortiz I mentioned this in our regular picks piece today and the same principles apply. Justin Masterson has a real lefty problem. He has one of the worst lefty/righty splits you'll ever see from a starting pitcher. Basically righties can't hit him and lefties get batting practice. Masterson has allowed a wOBA over .400 this season to lefty hitters. And Papi is one of the best. He makes a ton of contact, is real tough to strikeout and obviously has big time power. If it weren't for Braun facing Gibson, this would be the runaway top pick. Braun and Ortiz rate out as significantly better than the next closest in the field.   Hits Daniel Murphy Murphy doesn't strike out much and he doesn't walk much. What he does is make a ton of contact. Isn't a big favorite for total bases, but for...

If you're interested, here are today's daily picks: Check em out.   Pitchers Clayton Kershaw FanDuel 10000 DraftKings 12600 DraftStreet 24947 On a short night, I wouldn't recommend fading Kershaw. There's a solid case for King Felix, mostly because the Yankees are a struggling offense without Tex or Beltran, but Kershaw is where I'm spending my money tonight. He faces the White Sox who strike out almost 24% of the time against lefties and rank in the bottom half of the league in wOBA. And remember, some of those numbers are buoyed by Jose Abreu who's out right now. They are a garbage-y offense and Kershaw is awesome. Dude is striking out close to 12 per 9! You won't see too many exclamation points here, so enjoy it. Hope and pray that others will be thrown off by the 3.57 ERA. His xFIP is much more in line with his peripherals and balla-ness at 1.94. The truth is somewhere in the middle, but I'd put it much closer to the latter. He's the stud to pony up for today. Matt Garza FanDuel 6500 DraftKings 8400 DraftStreet 16102 Pitching is a little weird after the two big horses. If you are playing on multi-pitcher sites you most likely won't be able to afford both Felix and Kershaw. At least not on such a short night where the options for bats are limited. Garza isn't a guy I would really consider on a full slate but tonight I'll take his mid-range salary and ability to strike some guys out. The Twins are a little better than average against righties, but have a K rate of about 22%. It's that last consideration that tips the scale towards Garza. Again, he's about league average, but the other options out there either have bad matchups or are bad themselves.
