You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases There is a tight grouping of guys in our system today. Hard to pick the top two. Miguel Cabrera I don’t want to seem like a chalk-line frontrunner when I’m continually putting him in as a top total bases play. We have a system for producing the ScoreStreak picks on a daily basis and it’s liked Miggy a lot in recent days. That’s what happens with a string of lefties facing Detroit will do. Today’s another one to add to the list with Chris Capuano hurling in Yankee Stadium. Miggy’s having a down year for him on the lefty side of the split thanks in part to a reduced Babip and slightly lower Hr/FB%. That’s all to say, he’s still awesome (though maybe in a decline) and is in a solid spot today for sure. Jose Bautista Caught a whiff of what he’s doing against lefties this season? Let me lay it on you. 1.139 OPS and a 211 wRC+ for starters. Toss in a .483 wOBA and you’ve got a dude just crushing the hopes and dreams of lefty pitching throughout the majors. Wei-Yin Chen is no pushover, but Bautista’s profile and career numbers, along with projected out stats make him a top play in our system.   Hits Ian Kinsler Mentioned Capuano just two paragraphs before if you are the kind of guy/girl who likes to skip around. The Tigers, in general, are a great squad to target today in the hitter's park in the Bronx. What I like about Kinsler in this format is that in addition to being a better hitter over his career against righties (not as good this season) he's nearly impossible to walk. His 2%...

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 8/5/14

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 8/4/14 DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Jose Abreu Our system hates Colby Lewis. That’s great news for those wanting to play the Pale-hose today. (Is that how you spell Pale-hose? It looks weird to me.) Lewis’s tendencies toward allowing monster, moonshot homeruns is part of the reason for this pick today. The other is that our system loves Abreu today without even knowing about his success against righty pitching this season. He’s crushed it in his first look at major league pitching. And even with the unsustainable Hr/FB% he’s still a solid play today when you factor for Lewis and U.S. Cellular. Nelson Cruz Oh does he ever pound lefties. Oh does he ever. Cruz is rocking very close to a 1.000 OPS on that side of the split this season and his 172 wRC+ only backs up his career averages. Mark Buehrle pitches to enough contact that in the Rogers Centre he’s could be in real trouble from the likes of Cruz. Toronto plays well to power and Cruz is sitting on the great side of his platoon split.   Hits Starlin Castro Need to have a little Coors exposure today at least. Or a lot of it? I want to spread the wealth a little in ScoreStreak today simply because there are so many great matchups that it’s hard to hone in on just one juicy winner. They all seem like winners. Castro is one of those guys and he’s facing Brett Anderson who strikes out only six batters per nine this season. We’ll take that in this ballpark with Castro’s batted ball profile. Alex Rios Want to pick on John Danks today and this is a place to do it. Honestly, could have thrown out...

You'll have to scrape out the value where you can. I think Kluber gives you the best chances considering the opponent and price among the top tier of arms. Kluber has (somewhat quietly) had a phenomenal season. 2.70 xFIP ranks among the best in the league and his peripherals are off the charts good, striking out almost ten batters per nine while walking less than two batters in the same stretch. He faces the Reds, a team that ranks 25th in team wOBA against righties. They strike out around 20% of the time and considering all options, I think Kluber makes the safest bet. Jeff Samardzija - FD 8100 DK 8500 DD 18050 SS 25500 Not the greatest matchup in the whole world, but considering the limited options and the price, he makes for a solid (if unspectacular) start against the Rays. Tampa Bay is fine enough against righties and don't strike out a ton. But Samardzija is a live arm with an xFIP in the low threes (his ERA is a bit lower) and strikes out about eight per nine. That's good enough I think considering he's in the mid tier of pitchers. His K upside probably isn't there, but I also don't imagine he gets shelled in this one.   Catchers Alex Avila - FD 2500 DK 3400 DD 6450 SS 4900 The strikeout rate is completely out of hand against righties, but considering that's his biggest issue we can reduce the expectation just a tad against Brandon McCarthy who only K's about 7.5 per nine (decent, not great). The ballpark also gives Avila a boost as the short porch in right could help him sneak one over. Consider Victor Martinez for many of the same reasons as Avila but the price is a little tougher to handle.   First Basemen Adam Dunn - FD 3100 DK 4200 DD 9050 SS 6100 Sat yesterday though that seems like just a rest day. Nick Martinez is a dude you want to target and for good reason. He blows. Dunn makes an especially interesting play against him because the country boy's...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Miguel Cabrera Feels like I’ve been putting here everyday, but that’s what happens when one of the best hitters in the league heads to one of the best hitter’s parks in all of baseball. Yankee Stadium boosts power to righty bats. And though Brandon McCarthy’s been no slouch this season, Miggy’s platoon splits don’t give him a downgrade against the righty arm. This short slate is a dicey one. Best to default to the best bats and move on. Jose Abreu Speaking of defaulting to the best bats, Abreu is a monster. And that monster faces Nick Martinez, an arm so bad he’d be in the minors on almost any other team. Martinez strikes out less than four batters per nine and walks more. He’s garbage. Abreu meanwhile has been one of the best hitters in baseball in that platoon split. Even accounting for the unsustainable 30% Hr/FB ratio, he’s still a rockstar. His power will regress a bit as some of those flyballs turn into outs. But even with that in mind I’d target him against Martinez.   Hits Adam Eaton Connor Gillaspie Speaking of how bad Nick Martinez is, these two dudes will be at the top of my hits category today. Neither walks too much and their strikeout rates, while in the mid teens, shouldn’t factor in at all today against Martinez who couldn’t strike out my daughter. (She’s so short the strike zone would be nearly impossible to hit, not because she’s any good). If you are looking for players with high contact expectations these are two places to start. Both hit righties well (Gillaspie especially this season) and operate near the top of the lineup. Lots of...

The good Phillies are old and K prone, and the bad Phillies are... bad. In spite of a great home park, the Phils have a wOBA below .300 and have struck out the 12th most in the majors. Hamels is a less than ideal match-up, but Strasburg is simply irresistable. Yu Darvish - FD 11100 DK 11200 DD 21100 SS 30200 Darvish has been human recently, but the upside is still just tremendous. The Indians are tougher to strike out than the Phils, but Bauer is a much more favorable guy to face than Hamels. If you want to go safer today, Darvish is worth a look to be sure. Madison Bumgarner - FD 8800 DK 9200 DD 18000 SS 26300 The Mets are basically the Phillies, but worse. Their team wOBA is a whopping 3 points higher, but their the 8th easiest team in the league to strike out. Colon has been pretty sharp this year, but the Giants will still be considerable favorites, and Bumgarner should have a nice start. Also considered: Josh Beckett, Tyson Ross Value Plays: Marcus Stroman, Francisco Liriano   Catchers Brian McCann - FD 2800 DK 4100 DD 7200 SS 5300 I have to be real with you: today is a brutal day to pick a catcher. It's with some regret that I present Brian McCann as the best catcher play of the day. Basically, Buchholz and his 70 Ks against 33 BB in 96 innings this year has been a mess, and while McCann has been pretty bad himself - it's still a great platoon spot in a good hitters' park. Salvador Perez - FD 2800 DK 3800 DD 6950 SS 5400 Perez makes a pretty solid play against Scott Kazmir today, in spite of Kazmir being a good pitcher. He's a .372 career wOBA guy against left handed pitching, and while he's run pretty bad against southpaws this year, he should definitely get that back on track by the end of the...
