His price is dirt cheap for a guy who puts up more than a K an inning, and he's a little bad BABIP luck away from having a totally respectable ERA as well. I'm not a Jason Vargas believer, either, so this looks like a very winnable game for Salazar. My major concern with him is how late they'll let him pitch in the game, but to some degree, that's factored into his very affordable price.   Catchers Miguel Montero - FD 2600 DK 4000 DD 8400 DFSTR 6600 I remain unmoved by the Miguel Montero hate that the daily fantasy sites seem to harbor for him. You're getting a lot of upside from this position for any price, and at these bargain prices, he's easily the top play on the board from my perspective given today's match-up. Christian Bergman is just not a major league pitcher, and Arizona's hitter friendly ballpark makes this a great spot. Evan Gattis - FD 2900 DK 4000 DD 8850 DFSTR 3600 I can't give Gattis my very highest recommendation when he's facing a right handed pitcher, but again, if you're out there hunting upside, you could do a lot worse than the Braves' slugging catcher. Tom Koehler allows a decent amount of contact, and a player with Gattis' raw power only needs one ball in the zone to make your day. Salvador Perez - FD 2700 DK 3900 DD 7400 DFSTR 5000 If Gattis and Montero are those crazy hot girls from college who you just know you should stay away from, but who always suck you into buying them a beer.. Perez is the...

And try out our partner ScoreStreak and our exclusive exclusive ScoreStreak picks.   Pitchers Alright, let me get this out of the way. For their price, I'm not recommending either Clayton Kershaw OR David Price today (cue scary music). Nope. I won't do it. Going to give you some killer value plays instead. Enjoy! Julio Teheran - FD 7200 DK 8100 DD 15050 DFSTR 7900 Gallardo has actually put up some decent peripherals this year, and while's not the strikeout machine he once was, he still rates fine in that category. The big sell here, though, is the match-up. In case this is the first baseball game you are aware of in the 2014 season, the Padres are an historically bad offense - posting a .276(!) wOBA while striking out nearly 22% of the time. Just as our projection system guessed, the luster has been coming off of Despaigne for some time now, and I expect that to continue with a Gallardo W in this one. Also considered: If you must spend, I like Corey Kluber. I also could consider taking a risk of Mat Latos.   Catchers Buster Posey - FD 3500 DK 4400 DD 10000 DFSTR 9300 Posey's been short of his historic self this season, but he's still posting an .849 OPS against left handed pitching. And that's all left handed pitching. Tonight, he gets to face Franklin Morales. And I get it, Morales is a major league pitcher, which means he's one of the best 200 pitchers in the world or whatever. But he might be solidly ranked exactly #200. His 80 Ks and 54 BBs in 118 IP are atrocious, and Posey and the Giants should make quick work of him. Devin Mesoraco - FD 3100 DK 3800 DD 7150 DFSTR 3000 The price has dipped from Mesoraco's in-season peak, but it's not totally clear why. The guy has been an animal against right handed pitching this year, posting a .384 wOBA and hitting for serious power - with 16 homers in 264 plate appearances. And I might have been quick to call Morales the worst starter in the bigs - Turner's peripherals are equally grizzly, and he's pitched...

Jeff Samardzija - FD 8100 DK 9200 DD 17100 DFSTR 5400 If you are looking to target just a little K upside this is your stop. The Astros are in the bottom half of the league in team wOBA against righties and strike out more than 23% of the time. I don't love the ballpark as Minute Maid does allow power to both sides of the plate at a higher than league average rate. Samardzija has been good, not great this season, but that's all you can ask for on a pitching day like this one. His K rate is right around eight batters per nine and he keeps his walks at an acceptable rate. The xFIP is in the low threes and I'm trying my damndest to find the positive plays today. Jake Odorizzi - FD 8100 DK 8500 DD 15700 DFSTR 9500 Has a tough matchup in a tougher park but Odorizzi has been a K machine this season and I don't mind buying the better pitcher in the worse matchup rather than the other way around. His K rate is over 10.5 per nine and the xFIP is in the mid three's. The O's are good against righties but Odorizzi's prices make the upside there and able to accept the possible downside. Francisco Liriano - FD 7100 DK 9700 DD 13800 DFSTR 8100 Eep. It's getting weird in here. You feel it? It doesn't feel great. The good news for Liriano is his strike out rate is over 9.5 batters per nine and his xFIP is about three quarters a run lower than his ERA at 3.43. That's the good news. The bad news is that the Cardinals come in the top half of the league against lefties. They do strike out some and their power is limited, but they can hit in dribs and drabs. Liriano could go six with some K's or he could get chased, but I like the upside on a weird day. Consider Kyle Lohse...

And try out our partner ScoreStreak and our exclusive exclusive ScoreStreak picks.   Pitchers Stephen Strasburg - FD 10700 DK 13100 DD 21300 DFSTR 11100 Sale is my 2nd favorite big money pitcher, but he's a far cry from Strasburg's value today. If you want to go against the grain, though, here's the case. The Yanks are tough to strike out, but Sale's 158 Ks in 136 IP means it doesn’t really matter if you strike out or not, chances are good you are going to at some point against him. The Yankees are also the 2nd lowest scoring team in the AL, meaning this could be a nice long outing, and all of their best hitters prefer right handed pitching. So there's that. Also considered: Tentatively, Jered Weaver   Catchers Wilin Rosario - FD 3100 DK 3700 DD 7700 DFSTR 3500 Rosario has been on a horrific bender for a while, but most of that damage is against righties. He's still crushed left handed pitching for a .404 wOBA this year, and Brad Hand's 48 Ks and 32 BBs in 79 IP aren't going to fly under Colorado skies. Miguel Montero - FD 2400 DK 3400 DD 8300 DFSTR 5500 The price has bottomed out for Montero, mark my words. Our projection system has been asking us to trot him out there with great frequency, and if you followed the picks I wrote on Thursday night, it paid off with a monster night on a near minimum salary. While Kennedy is a much tougher pitcher, the price still remains a joke, just not so much a joke that it can unseat Rosario against a terrible lefty at home. Wilson Ramos - FD 2900 DK 3800 DD 8950 DFSTR 4800 Give me either of the two guys above, but if you're in the mood for safety, Ramos might be your guy. He's a high batting average guy for the position, and Vogelsong allows a lot of contact. I'm picturing solid, but unspectacular.   First Basemen Jose Abreu - FD 3800 DK 5000 DD 12450 DFSTR 9700 I mean, I know I only write the picks 2 nights a week, but this is somehow...

I think the writing is on the wall – these guys are throwing in the towel this season. With a 20.8% strikeout rate (that makes them the 12th easiest team in the majors to strike out) and a pathetic .305 wOBA that’s 2nd worst in the AL, I think Felix goes deep and racks up a very nice number of Ks tonight. Joe Kelly also gives the Ms a nice chance for a win. Nice play all around. Adam Wainwright - FD 9700 DK 9700 DD 19900 DFSTR 6300 The Phillies are like a worse version of the Red Sox – but Wainwright isn’t quite the pitcher Felix is. The Phillies have a worse wOBA (.296!) than the Sox, and strike out more as well. All systems are go for a very nice Wainwright performance. Kyle Kendrick is pretty horrendous in his own right, so Wainwright is also in position for a win. Mat Latos - FD 7800 DK 8700 DD 15250 DFSTR 6500 There's some risk here of course, but he's a slight favorite against the Braves who rank 26th in the league against righty pitching. Atlanta strikes out more than 22% of the time and just generally struggles in this platoon split. Again, Great American Ballpark is a bit bandbox-y, but Latos has gone at least seven innings in three of his last four starts. Mike Minor - FD 6800 DK 6900 DD 12500 DFSTR 4600 On the other side of the ball? mound? field? is Minor who finally started putting it together last game against Oakland. His xFIP is still one and a half runs lower than his ERA. He's striking out more than eight batters per nine and keeping the walks relatively low. This is more your upside GPP play considering the prices. Also considered: Yovani Gallardo, Sonny Gray   Catchers Miguel Montero - FD 2400 DK 3400 DD 8200 DFSTR 3000 The price has gotten stupid on Montero,...
