Much hate has been leveled against the guy this season, mostly from a few epic blow-up games and underperforming in some high expectation starts. Otherwise, he's been a stud this season with an xFIP of 2.55 and striking out more than 10.5 batters per nine. He faces a Braves team coming in near the bottom of the league against righties. Fantastic spot and will be the feature starter in every one of my cash games today. And honestly, it's not close. Jose Quintana - FD 7700 DK 8300 DD 16250 SS NA Wow, was I surprised to see this guy popping up near the top of our system today. Not a dude on my radar all that often, but he's putting together a more than serviceable season and today faces a true bottom feeding team against lefties in the Mariners. Quintana's a speck worse than his 3.02 ERA would suggest but, all in all, it's been a solid season striking out close to eight per nine and keeping the walks relatively in check. The big upside here is the opponent as the Mariners stink against lefties and Safeco keeps power completely in check. Ian Kennedy - FD 7600 DK 8300 DD 15800 SS 23900 Feels like I throw him out there every time out. One reason is because his price is kept (somewhat) artificially low because getting a win for the dude is super tough. Because the Padres suck and all. Kennedy's peripherals are totally acceptable at around a 3:1 K:BB with a 3.31 xFIP. The Pirates aren't pushovers but become considerably worse without McCutchen in the lineup. The ballpark helps and Kennedy should be a complete dog in the game. Consider Nathan Eovaldi   Catchers Brian McCann - FD 3000 DK 3800 DD 7900 SS 5700 Broken record time mostly because the continues his season-long run of coming way cheaper than expectation due to some incredible bad luck. He's gotten hot of late with some power...

First there's the fact that the Twins are the 7th easiest team in the league to strike out. Next is that he'll be facing off against one Yohan Pino. Last is that he's gone from a tough hitter's park to a great pitcher's park. And he's just pretty damned good. For me, Lester is the highest upside and lowest risk of the day. Collin McHugh - FD 7200 DK 8400 DD 16600 SS 23000 McHugh came back in late July and put up two pretty darned good fantasy starts that would have been even better had his team been able to put up a win. He's still got the excellent K potential, and facing the Phillies is an added bonus. They're in the top half of the league in terms of how easy they are to strike out, and have been in the bottom 5 of team wOBA all season. Added bonus for McHugh? His opposing starter, Roberto Hernandez, is one of the very worst pitchers to take the ball every 5 days in the majors. I'm thinking he's got a good chance to snag that illusive win. Early Games Jordan Zimmermann - FD 8900 DK 9400 DD 17850 SS 28500 There's not a lot to choose from in the early slate, so let me make a brief case for Zimmermann. The guy's simply in his prime - striking out more guys than ever, and walking fewer. The Mets are downright hopeless when it comes to hitting, and their best hitter (Wright) hasn't made contact against a right handed pitcher in what feels like a million years. Also considered: Homer Bailey Catchers Late Games Devin Mesoraco - FD 3400 DK 4100 DD 9250 SS 8300 Mesoraco is having an insane break out this year, and while it's BABIP fueled, a lot of it is more than legit. His career line against left handers is terrific, and his line this year is even better. Any time you can get a catcher with a .367...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases There is a tight grouping of guys in our system today. Hard to pick the top guy. Nelson Cruz If you're young, you might not realize that some fringe contingents used to think that JA Happ was going to be a good pitcher. Those days are long gone, and much to his dismay he'll have to see Nelson Cruz step into the batter's box today. Cruz has posted a .983 OPS vs. all left handed pitchers this year, and that includes actual good ones. Easy call for me for the top spot for total bases.   Hits Justin Morneau A lot to love about Morneau today. He's a sneaky candidate for guys who don't work or strike out - just 17% of his at bats end without a ball in play - and that number rates to be even better against the pitch-to-contact Hendricks. It's really the perfect scenario for a hits play, all things considered. Miguel Cabrera Our projection system simply doesn't think Shane Greene can hold Cabrera off base in this one. Probably not much else that needs to be said.   Strikeouts No recommendation for the top slot today. I'll be offering picks for the 7 K and 6 K slots, and going for a homerun with someone yet to be determine in the top slot. Jon Lester Lester is the top strike out play by some distance today, and it basically comes down to this: Lester can go deep into games, and the Twins are the 7th easiest team in the majors to strike out. We good? Good. Homer Bailey Woof. It's not a great day for strike outs, guys. Bailey edges out a fairly mediocre class today...

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for FanDuel, DraftKings, DraftDay and StarStreet 8/6/14 Our Free Baseball eBook is live! Check out the details, and get your copy now! Don't make another lineup before reading this book! It contains one mistak e that basically everyone in the daily fantasy baseball industry is making! Try a free 3-day trial to our Lineup Construction Tools for FanDuel and DraftKings. And try out our partner ScoreStreak and our exclusive exclusive ScoreStreak picks. Fair warning! You aren’t going to see too many early slate plays on here today. That group of games is real rough. Not to say there isn’t value in there, but it was hard to justify a full separate write-up with that group. You’ll see some names sprinkled in, but for the most part the later slate seems like where it’s at.   Pitchers Danny Salazar - FD 7500 DK 7100 DD 13950 SS 21200 I simply cannot, nor do I want to, quit this guy. I’m just too intrigued by the upside. His K rate is close to ten per nine innings and today he’s facing a Red’ squad that ranks near the bottom of the league against righty pitching. They are a very weak, somewhat top-heavy lineup that gets real bad, real quick. Salazar is a siren song, has been unlucky a bit this year and his xFIP is in the high 3’s, about a half run lower than his ERA. Pitching is a bit dicey today. But I’m willing to take a chance on the guy. Yordano Ventura - FD 7000 DK 6700 DD 14050 SS 19400 He’s not going to go nuts with the K’s. And ballpark doesn’t play great for pitchers. But the Diamondbacks were a middle of the road team against righties even with Goldschmidt. Without him they are significantly weaker. Ventura needs to keep his control to be truly effective and I think he has a chance today against a below-average team. Chris Sale - FD 10700 DK 12200 DD 21000 SS 32200 Putting him on here more out of a sense of duty than what I actually think he represents as value. He is expensive today, but is by far the best pitcher going. That alone makes him worth the slight overpay. His matchup against the Rangers in U.S. Cellular isn’t exactly ideal, but Sale’s been (outside of a misstep last game) excellent this season. Again, this is more on name than it is points per dollar value, but how can I not mention the guy? Yovani Gallardo - FD 7100 DK 7500 DD 15250 SS 22000 The Giants have been below average this season against righty pitching and Gallardo’s a mid 3’s xFIP guy....

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases There is a tight grouping of guys in our system today. Hard to pick the top two. Miguel Cabrera I don’t want to seem like a chalk-line frontrunner when I’m continually putting him in as a top total bases play. We have a system for producing the ScoreStreak picks on a daily basis and it’s liked Miggy a lot in recent days. That’s what happens with a string of lefties facing Detroit will do. Today’s another one to add to the list with Chris Capuano hurling in Yankee Stadium. Miggy’s having a down year for him on the lefty side of the split thanks in part to a reduced Babip and slightly lower Hr/FB%. That’s all to say, he’s still awesome (though maybe in a decline) and is in a solid spot today for sure. Jose Bautista Caught a whiff of what he’s doing against lefties this season? Let me lay it on you. 1.139 OPS and a 211 wRC+ for starters. Toss in a .483 wOBA and you’ve got a dude just crushing the hopes and dreams of lefty pitching throughout the majors. Wei-Yin Chen is no pushover, but Bautista’s profile and career numbers, along with projected out stats make him a top play in our system.   Hits Ian Kinsler Mentioned Capuano just two paragraphs before if you are the kind of guy/girl who likes to skip around. The Tigers, in general, are a great squad to target today in the hitter's park in the Bronx. What I like about Kinsler in this format is that in addition to being a better hitter over his career against righties (not as good this season) he's nearly impossible to walk. His 2%...
