The limb I'm going out on is holding just fine thank you. There's no debate about Kershaw's awesomeness. One only needs consider his price. Can you get away with it. Today I think you can. For such a righty-heavy lineup, the Brewers aren't great against lefty pitching and they strike out a ton, more than 22% of the time. Kershaw's last two outings have been ho-hum, but that's only by his ridiculous standards. He's a solid favorite for the win against Gallardo, and while I don't think he's a "must", in cash games I don't see a big reason to avoid him. (And I don't think I'm touching Price and King Felix facing each other) After Clayton the waters get a little muddier... Matt Shoemaker - FD 7200 DK 6600 DD 13550 DFSTR 8300 He's rather quietly has a real nice season posting a 3.16 xFIP that's outpacing his ERA by about three quarters of a run. His 8.67 K/9 rate and 5:1 K:BB shoe a guy getting it done. The Rangers come in around the bottom of the league against righties and have, for the most part, been really struggling lately. On a day of big ace arms taking the mound, Shoemaker could quietly have a profitable game and it especially attractive on two SP site where he can be paired with Kershaw. Gio Gonzalez - FD 8800 DK 9300 DD 15900 DFSTR 6500 Is super frustrating as you really never know what you're going to get with him. He has flashes of awesome combined with walking the ballpark and getting bombed. He could go seven innings strong or be at 85 pitches in the third. It's a crapshoot. Today he gets the Pirates who rank in the bottom of third of the league against lefties. Gio can strike out almost ten batters per nine. But the walks. Oh the walks. Consider Wade...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Jose Bautista Bautista obliterates lefty pitching. Just destroys it and John Danks is the kind of lefty who's often happy to oblige. Against lefties this season Joey Bats has a ridiculous 1.140 OPS and .483 wOBA. Those numbers are out of this world and while luck has a little do with it, his career numbers tell a similar tale. Bautista is playing in U.S. Cellular, one of the best hitter's parks in baseball and facing Danks who owns a 4.74 xFIP. This is a great spot to take care of your three total bases slot in one swing. Justin Morneau What Morneau does to righties in Coors Field makes me think he's enjoyed his first season in the new digs. He has a .408 wOBA in that split at home to go along with a .939 OPS. And today he gets a chance to improve it against Dylan Axelrod who owns a career 4.77 xFIP. Axelrod is bad against everyone, but particularly righties to whom he allows an .850 OPS. It should be a good time in Coors tonight with everyone getting a chance to pad their stats.   Hits Kole Calhoun Erick Aybar I went with both of these guys yesterday against Nick Martinez and I'm looking to roll it back again today. Calhoun did me solid, Aybar not so much though he did have the ball in play every time which was the main reason I had him going in the hits spot. Today's a little different in that Colby Lewis doesn't allow as much contact as Nick Martinez, but Lewis is still below average with a high 4's xFIP. Lewis walks and strikes out a few more...

Kluber's been nothing short of a Cy Young candidate with a 2.98 xFIP while striking out close to ten batters per nine. The group of AL stud starting pitchers is kind of long, but Kluber is right there in the mix. He faces the Orioles who've been fine enough against righty pitching while striking out more than 20% of the time. I'm buying here almost primarily on Kluber and it seems his price is completely reasonable across the board. Madison Bumgarner - FD 9200 DK 8600 DD 19400 DFSTR 8800 He's in a tougher matchup against Hamels which does decrease his win expectation some. I'm not in love with that and don't love spending top tier-ish prices on a guy who could end up in a pitcher's duel. But Bumgarner's been his usual model of consistency self and not much should change in this one. AT&T park is solid for pitchers and the Phillies rank 21st in the league in wOBA against lefty pitching. I just with Philly was chucking a bum out there. Lance Lynn - FD 8300 DK 8800 DD 17200 DFSTR 9200 The Padres are still a bad offense. I know they've strung together some hits lately getting their Babip back up into the range of normal. But you don't end up as a basement-dwelling offense just because the ball didn't bounce your way a few times. They still stink. I wish Lynn didn't walk as many guys and his xFIP runs about a run worse than his ERA. So he isn't a lock solid play. But the matchup still works and Lynn does strike out about a batter per nine. Zack Wheeler - FD 7600 DK 8500 DD 14250 DFSTR 9000 The Cubs are downright bad against righties, ranking 28th in team wOBA against RHP with a strikeout rate north of 22%. Those numbers are good enough for a bullish outlook on Wheeler...

And it isn’t like Scherzer’s been some stiff or anything. He strikes out more than ten per nine and has a 3.11 xFIP. The problem is more that the Pirates rate out so high against righties, coming in at third in team wOBA. But there are plenty of cheap plays that make Scherzer easy to fit and I don’t see much else to like here in the way of arms. Consider Edwin Jackson coming super cheap if you want a little K upside. But this is GPP only and even then it’s not great. Late Stephen Strasburg - FD 9400 DK 9600 DD 19600 DFSTR 8400 And once again I fall down the rabbit hole, but how can we fade him on the late slate? The easy answer is we don’t. I’m one of the biggest Strasburg apologists around. His numbers this season remain ridiculous in every way except the ERA. His xFIP is in the mid 2’s and he’s striking out more than ten batters nine. The Mets rank 24th in the league in team wOBA against righties. Stras would be my top play even in a full slate of games. One a short night? It’s a no-brainer. John Lackey - FD 7600 DK 8400 DD 13100 DFSTR 5500 Padres have come around a bit over the last couple of weeks, no longer just rolling over and giving up before the start of every game. Lackey’s a solid if unspectacular cash game play pairing with Strasburg on two pitcher sites. Again, I’m all over Stras and am prepared to catch some heat for it. It’s fine. I’m a man of conviction. (Whatever that means) Lackey’s price and opponent combined with a decent peripherals make him in play. Consider Jake Odorizzi   Catchers Early Evan Gattis - FD 2800 DK 3400...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Todd Frazier Devon Mesoraco Welcome back to Coors Field everyone. Been missing you something fierce. What with you cool, crisp air that creates a launching pad effect the likes of which we could only hope to recreate in some sort of zero gravity chamber. It's great. And hail to the visiting team walking in for a four game series. You'll be seeing these names quite a bit over the next few days I'm sure. Facing off today against Jorge de la Rosa, both Frazier and Mesoraco (the latter especially) are hitting lefties quite well and stand to have some big power upside going today. In terms of total bases, I suspect they'll get more than a few chances to rack 'em up. Time for another visit in the Rocky Mountain air.   Hits Jose Altuve The sample size is for sure small, but Allen Webster has been nothing short of an abomination since hitting the bit leagues. It's only fifteen innings, but he's walked more than he's struck out and has just basically been tattooed. Altuve on the other hand keeps his good times rolling right along. He is such a favorite for hits at this point it's kind of crazy. The LD% is solid, he never walks, never K's and has the ball in play early and often. Should be more of the same today. Scooter Gennett Scooter hates taking walks. I love that about the guy in this format. And his strike out rate of 12.8% is more than adequate in what we're looking for to profile hits on a given day. I don't love the matchup with Edwin...
