Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 8/29/14 DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. Gone is the salary finagling, mixing and matching, and hair-pulling that goes into setting lineups. ScoreStreak simplifies the process in an easy-to-use interface. Employing a prop-pick style, ScoresStreak leagues are specific outcome dependent with three categories: Total Bases, Hits, and for pitchers, Strikeouts. New users who deposit through DFSR will get an extra $10 to play with. We are putting in picks every night and giving you some of our top plays each day. Two are on us, the third is all you. Or go your own way. As always, if you are new to daily fantasy baseball, make sure read our Free Baseball e-book. It contains one mistake that basically everyone in the daily fantasy baseball industry is making! Also be sure to sign up for a free 3-day trial to access the MLB system and spreadsheets that help produce our picks. And give ScoreStreak a try. You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Edwin Encarnacion It's easy to forget about guys who have missed a portion of the season, because their year to date counting stats don't look all too impressive, but don't make that mistake with Encarnacion. 27 homers in 422 PA is nothing to shrug off, and neither is the .394 wOBA. But E5's raw talent isn't all that's driving this ranking. There's also Chris Capuano. The 36 year old Yankee's lefty is getting by this season, but he shouldn't be able to fool a hitter of Encarnacion's caliber. Could be a huge game. Miguel Cabrera I've been known to get Miggy with it on more than one occasion, so it shouldn't surprise you that our projection system loves him against Scott Carroll and his 50 Ks and 38 walks in 100 innings pitched this year. Those peripherals are arguably the very worst in all of baseball. Combine that with a great hitter's park, and Carroll's opportunities against Cabrera have "Sportscenter Highlight" written all over them.   Hits Melky Cabrera With his .325 BABIP, Cabrera is just terrific at turning balls near the zone into base hits. Capuano will have to stay in the zone against Cabrera with the huge right handed bats lurking behind him, and the Melk-man could put together a pretty solid outing. Ryan Braun Another case of a high BABIP guy against a pitch to contact guy. Vogelsong has barely more Ks+BBs than IP this year, which puts Braun and his max-effort swing in great position to rap out a hit or two.   Strikeouts Felix Hernandez King Felix pulls what amounts to being a pretty solid match-up today. The Nats are the 7th easiest team in...

Arrieta paid off huge when we recommended him last time (unless his joke of a bullpen punted away the win), and not a lot changes for him here. He's still got great K stuff, and he's facing a middle of the road Cinci offense. The big sell, here, is guy who'll take the mound for the Reds. Dylan Axelrod has had something akin to no success at any level, and I think even the Cubs will be able to hit him. Time shall tell If you feel like you want to go against the Arrieta grain, our projection system likes Kuroda against a guy whose literal last name is "Lobstein," but Detroit always spooks me, personally. Late games Sonny Gray - FD 8700 DK 8700 DD 19550 DFSTR 6900 Your safest bet at investing a decent chunk of salary at a solid multiplier today is one Sonny Gray. It's going to seem a little counter-intuitive. I mean, the Angels do have a good offense, and CJ Wilson isn't exactly a pushover. But the main things pushing me in this direction are: 1) A great park in which to pick and 2) the fact that there are no true aces today. It's important not to underestimate the impact of allocating a large portion of salary at a good multiplier, and on sites where pitchers simply outscore similarly priced hitters, I like Gray a decent amount. Mike Minor - FD 6900 DK 7500 DD 14850 DFSTR 4900 The value play of the day sure seems to be Mike Minor. He's been decidedly unlucky this year: his 4.90 ERA is way ahead of his 3.73 xFIP. His peripherals look good, and the Braves...

For their price, I'm not recommending either Clayton Kershaw OR David Price today (cue scary music). Nope. I won't do it. Going to give you some killer value plays instead. Enjoy! Julio Teheran - FD 7200 DK 8100 DD 15050 DFSTR 7900 Gallardo has actually put up some decent peripherals this year, and while's not the strikeout machine he once was, he still rates fine in that category. The big sell here, though, is the match-up. In case this is the first baseball game you are aware of in the 2014 season, the Padres are an historically bad offense - posting a .276(!) wOBA while striking out nearly 22% of the time. Just as our projection system guessed, the luster has been coming off of Despaigne for some time now, and I expect that to continue with a Gallardo W in this one. Also considered: If you must spend, I like Corey Kluber. I also could consider taking a risk of Mat Latos.   Catchers Buster Posey - FD 3500 DK 4400 DD 10000 DFSTR 9300 Posey's been short of his historic self this season, but he's still posting an .849 OPS against left handed pitching. And that's all left handed pitching. Tonight, he gets to face Franklin Morales. And I get it, Morales is a major league pitcher, which means he's one of the best 200 pitchers in the world or whatever. But he might be solidly ranked exactly #200. His 80 Ks and 54 BBs in 118 IP are atrocious, and Posey and the Giants should make quick work of him. Devin Mesoraco - FD 3100 DK 3800 DD 7150 DFSTR 3000 The price has dipped from Mesoraco's in-season peak, but it's not totally clear why. The guy has been an animal against right handed pitching this year, posting a .384 wOBA and hitting for serious power - with 16 homers in 264 plate appearances. And I might have been quick to call Morales the worst starter in the bigs - Turner's peripherals are equally grizzly, and he's pitched...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Nelson Cruz Adam Jones Admittedly a few ways you can go with total bases today, but me? I'm grabbing the Os sluggers against the lefty Smyly. Smyly and his 36% ground ball rate will have a tough time keeping the likes of Cruz and Jones in the ball park, much less off the bases altogether. If anyone can be considered to be a favorite to get an extra base hit tonight, it's these two.   Hits Jose Altuve It always feels dirty when Altuve is off the top of the hits chart, so it's a welcome sign to see him there today. Not a lot to see here - Altuve and his 13.4% total Ks + BBs against Pomeranz's less than wipe out stuff. What you may not know is that most of Altuve's stellar year is coming from lefties - he's got a ridiculous .425 batting average against them this year. I'll call you craz if you consider anyone else for the top slot. Joe Mauer Not a banner year for Mauer, but he can still put hits together in bunches (and has done so recently), and Liam Hendriks is a failed reliever who has never proven a single thing as a starter. Assuming he doesn't just get walked, Mauer feels like a pretty easy play here.   Strikeouts Clayton Kershaw The Diamondbacks aren't the easiest team to strike out in the world, but they have a pretty bad offense, and if Kershaw gets to working through them, I could definitely see him getting up in that 7 K range. For the record - I'm not thinking it's likely that any pitcher crests 9 Ks today. Zack Wheeler The...

The abnormally low ERA has his price inflated a tad though it's in an acceptable range considering the Cubs are about as bad as it gets against righty pitching. They rank only above the Padres in team wOBA and San Diego is catching them. Cueto will most likely be a big cash game play because the rest of the field has its question marks. Alex Wood - FD 7900 DK 8200 DD 15750 DFSTR 8600 Another guy with a great matchup. The good news on Wood is he's coming with very similar peripherals as Cueto against an equally crappy team, but at significantly lower prices. Wood is striking out more than 8.5 batters per nine and walking less than three. The xFIP is in the low 3's over an extended run this season. The Mets are brutal against lefty pitching, coming in at 28th in the league against lefties. I see Wood as much better for the dollars on a day when pitching is weaker across the board. Madison Bumgarner - FD 9600 DK 10000 DD 20600 DFSTR 11600 He's a little lower on the list, but I think he makes a real solid play today. The Rockies are a totally different team away from Coors. On the road they rank in the bottom third of the league in team wOBA. After a brutal game against the Pirates, Bumgarner's last four starts have been tight and his last game against the Cubs was a GPP delight. James Paxton - FD 5500 The Rangers hit lefties well, but he's coming so cheap on FanDuel that the risk is completely acceptable. He has solid strikeout and walk rates to go with a low threes xFIP. Cheap enough with the other factors. Jason Hammel - FD 6600 DK...
