Pitchers Brandon Woodruff FD - P 9500 DK - SP 9500 Opponent - WSH (Patrick Corbin) Park - MILFD - 40.12 DK - 21.65 Don’t let the 5.35 ERA fool you, he’s been much better than this for the season and has run bad in a few key areas. He’s actually still striking out batters at a 29% clip for the season and the 3.39 xFIP is almost two full runs lower than the ERA. He has a BABIP against that’s 50 points higher than his career average and the 61% LOB is well below his career average as well. That’s a lot of bad luck in there and going to keep some folks away. But don’t worry about it. He’s been a solid pitcher this season and the matchup works for cash games as well. The Nationals have been terrible this season. Nestor Cortes FD 10200 DK 10600 Opponent - CHW (Dallas Keuchel) Park - CHWFD - 39.95 DK - 21.84 Well, this guy has been a little piece of awesome this season. Cortes comes into the game with a 1.35 ERA (2.78 xFIP) and has had about as good a 40IP stretch as you’ll see in the majors. The K’s have spiked to over 11 per nine thanks in part to throwing a cutter much more than he ever has in the past. He’s a -214 home favorite against the White Sox, the best money line odds on the day and he’ll almost definitely be one of the chalkier plays for this slate. It makes sense considering what he’s doing on the mound so far this season. Justin Verlander (FD $10800 DK $10300) is looking like a strong option for the evening slate. Catcher/First Base Ji-Man Choi FD 2600 DK 3800 Opponent - BAL (Kyle Bradish) Park - BALFD - 11.08 DK - 8.27 We have to try and find some cheaper options at the plate because there are some superstars we are going to want to pay for later. Choi helps with some of the salary concerns, especially on FanDuel where he’s coming at only $2600. He’s striking out a lot this season (33%) but the 14% walk rate plays and he still has an OPS in the mid-700s. Kyle Bradish does have some K stuff in his bag, which is a bit of a concern, but Choi is significantly better for his career against...

Pitchers Early Jordan Montgomery FD 8100 DK 7800 Opponent - BAL (Bruce Zimmermann) Park - BAL FD - 34.07 DK - 18.16 We have options on this early slate but with some of the top pitchers in tougher matchups, I am going to lean on Jordan Montgomery as the Yankees are heavy favourites here. He hasn't popped off for one of those slate-breaking performances this season but he has been very consistent holding opponents to two or fewer earned runs in six straight starts while averaging 13.8 DK/25.3 FD points per game. The matchup is what really stands out however, as he faces an Orioles team that is 27th in wOBA and 28th in wRC+ against left-handed pitching while striking out at an ugly 28% rate in the split. All things considered, Monty is my top play on the mound on this early slate. Main Zac Gallen FD 10600 DK 10300 Opponent - CHC (Marcus Stroman) Park - CHC FD - 34.75 DK - 18.19 Gallen is arbitration-eligible after this season and is about to get paid based on his early start to the season. He has been elite with five plus pitches and comes in tied with Pablo Lopez with a league-leading 1.05 ERA and has seen an uptick in K's recently with 16 over his last two starts(27% K rate on the season). He gets a matchup against a below-average Cubs offense that strikes out over 25% of the time against right-handed pitching. Even with the high price, I am on board in all formats. Catcher/First Base Early Hunter Dozier FD 2700 DK 4400 Opponent - CHW (Vince Velasquez) Park - CHW FD - 9.54 DK - 7.25 The early slate picks are going to be heavily tilted towards this White Sox/Royals game as both offences get favourable matchups. At first, I like taking the value with Hunter Dozier who was moved up the lineup at the start of May after a solid start to the season and comes in having got on base in eight of his last nine games. He has been better against lefties but still above-average against righties(108 wRC+) and faces Velasquez who has reverse splits and has given up a .458 wOBA to righties. Dozier is my top PTS/$ option at first on the early slate. Main Ty France FD 3200 DK 3800 Opponent - BOS (Rich Hill) Park - BOS FD - 11.64...
DFS NBA Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 5/17/22 Western Conference Finals

Western Conference Mavericks (5.5) vs. Warriors (-5.5) The Warriors enter the series as -5.5 favorites in Game 1 and -230 to take the series. It’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. Golden State played a weird series against a mostly Ja Morant-less Memphis squad and it still went to six games. Heck, they got blown out by 39 points in Game 5 before clinching it at home last Friday. They, of course, have championship upside with their current personnel, but it’s not anything like a lock as we saw in some other peak-Steph years. And then there is Dallas who is coming off one of the most improbable series and Game 7’s we’ve ever seen. They walked into Phoenix for a closeout game and promptly embarrassed the Western Conference’s one-seed. They are a superstar and role players team all the way down and do have some ways to make things tough on the Warriors. These two teams are very different and it’s going to be very interesting to see how it all plays out. Luka Doncic FD - $11500 DK - $11400Opponent - GSProj Pts FD - 57.7 DK - 63.92 It will be fascinating to see how the Warriors try to defend Luka. They don’t have anything close to the kind of defenders that the Suns had, at least on the wing and there’s a chance that Doncic could really feast here. He might see really just about every defensive look here and the Warriors will likely have to try and double, though that risks leaving shooters open. Such is the issues with Donci who is coming off a series averaging 33 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists while only playing 36 minutes a game because of how each individual game shook out. Klay Thompson FD - $6800 DK - $7200Opponent - DALProj Pts FD - 35.02 DK - 38.85 The Warriors are going to need a ton out of Klay in this series because not only is he going to need to knock down shots, but he will also get cracks at Luka on defense. We saw the minutes ramp up to over 40...

Eastern Conference Celtics (2) vs. Heat (-2) This series could very much be a rock fight throughout with both teams bringing in some of the best defensive schemes and personnel in the business. There’s a reason this game’s 204 total is a full 10 points lower than the Dallas Mavericks - Golden State Warriors first game. Regardless, Boston is -175 to win the series though they don’t have home-court advantage here. Also, Miami has an extra few days of rest, not having played since they closed things out last Thursday against the 76ers. Meanwhile, Boston had to bang it out all the way through seven games which only just wrapped up on Sunday. I like Boston in this series, but not by a ton and not by as much as the odds would suggest either. Let’s take a look at some key plays from these two teams. Jimmy Butler FD - $10500 DK - $9600Opponent - BOSProj Pts FD - 53.7 DK - 55.48 With Kyle Lowry still out, the offense will have to continue running primarily through Butler for this series and he’s going to have an uphill battle. This matchup isn’t like the first two rounds against the Hawks and 76ers with the Celtics able to throw a lot more size and defensive capability his way. But he’s also going to have to play almost all of these games simply because of how much Miami needs him. Even though those matchups were easier, Butler still averaged 28 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists last round against the 76ers and is coming off a 29-shot closeout game in which he put up 32 points. I really like the DraftKings’ price. Jayson Tatum FD - $10200 DK - $10000Opponent - MIAProj Pts FD - 53.61 DK - 58.17 Meanwhile, Tatum had a significantly more difficult matchup against the Bucks last series and still found a way to put up 28 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while throwing in some defensive stats as well. It’s tough to pick between Tatum and Butler in this tier and remember Tatum will see a lot of PJ Tucker in this series, making his life...

Pitchers Jameson Taillon FD 8300 DK 9100 Opponent - BAL (Spenser Watkins) Park - BALFD - 32.78 DK - 17.15 Pitching on the main slate is a bit rough for Tuesday so we are going to need to make the best of what we are given. Taillon comes in as the biggest money line favorite for the evening with the Yankees at -230 on the road against the Orioles. Baltimore strikes out the 7th most in the league and they rank 22nd in team wOBA. They are a below-average squad all the way around. Meanwhile, Taillon’s 2.93 ERA masks the 3.65 xFIP, but both are pretty good all things considered. He doesn’t strike out a ton of batters, but he really doesn’t walk anyone either. For this slate, he seems like the safest play, which might not be saying all that much. Dylan Bundy FD 7000 DK 8500 Opponent - OAK (James Kaprielian) Park - OAKFD - 33.46 DK - 17.01 Bundy is coming off an IL stint so it will be interesting to see just how far he goes in this game. That, in and of itself, makes him a riskier proposition for this main slate of games. But again, the options aren’t all that great and even some of the other decent arms are up against tough opponents. The Oakland A’s aren’t that. For the season, they rank dead last in team wOBA and it really isn’t all that close seeing as how they are 14 whole points behind the next closest team. Plus they strike out the fifth-most in the league. So Bundy has the best matchup on the board. It’s just a matter of how long he can last in the game. Catcher/First Base Brandon Belt FD 3800 DK 4500 Opponent - COL (Chad Kuhl) Park - COLFD - 16.45 DK - 12.25 The Giants could be popular plays once again facing off against the Rockies in the thin air of Colorado. Their 6.5 implied run line is easily the highest of the slate and really one of the higher ones you will ever see in the majors. It speaks to Chad Kuhl on the mound against them and their ability to hit pretty well around the top of the order especially. Belt should be in the cleanup slot on Tuesday against the righty and is coming off a 29-home run season. He has four already this...

Point Guard / Shooting Guard Luka Doncic FD - $11600 DK - $11600Opponent - PHOProj Pts FD - 61.62 DK - 65.83 It’s all on the line in Phoenix on Sunday (as it is in Boston) and we are likely to see max minutes out of all the major players. Luka is sure tough to fade at this point considering he does literally everything for the Mavericks and has really all season long. For the series, Doncic is averaging 32 points, 10 assists, and 7.5 rebounds in about 37 minutes per game. The funny thing is that the overall minute total is low because so many of these games have been blowouts one way or the other. The reality (if things stay close) is that he’s playing 42+ minutes in this one and should be able to beat those averages. Jrue Holiday FD - $9000 DK - $8200Opponent - BOSProj Pts FD - 48.64 DK - 49.28 We could see Jrue play nearly the whole game here for the Bucks and considering how important he is for their chances to win, they will be hard-pressed to take him off the court at all. Holiday struggled in Game 6, going only 7-17 from the field while failing to get much going in terms of rebounds or assists either. But for the series, he’s still putting up a 21/6/6 line even with that relative stinker. The DraftKings price is still a place to go especially if you don’t think you can fit the two superstars in Luka and Giannis. Derrick White FD - $5000 DK - $4600Opponent - MILProj Pts FD - 27.26 DK - 27.36 White offers one of the few ways to save on this slate even though he’s not strictly a punt play option. But sitting in the lower middle tier is a way to start saving some dollars and he’s been playing real minutes off the bench for the Celtics. White has played 30 or more minutes in each of the last three games, putting up 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists in that stretch. That’s good enough to play on these tight slates when you need to prioritize the...
