Sony Open After Dustin Johnson walked away with a commanding win at the Tournament of Champions last week, we move on to the first full-field event of 2018, the Sony Open. There will be 144 golfers(140 for fantasy) traveling to Waialae Country Club to tee it up this week, with the Top 70 and ties heading into the weekend in search of the giant cheque, trophy, and Hawaiian Lei. Justin Thomas returns as the defending champ and with his caddie, Jimmie Johnson, down and out with injury, he has pulled Jim "Bones" McKay out of his TV job to carry his bag and help him try and repeat. He hasn't caddied here at Waialae CC in quite a while(1992 I believe) but the experience can't hurt. This week when looking at the course, we have a Par 70 that works out to be 7,044 yards and is quite a bit different from the mile-wide fairways at Kapalua. Looking at last year's data, the average fairways hit was around 56% which is going to put more emphasis on Strokes Gained: Off the Tee. Each one of the Top 5 golfers(Thomas, Rose, Spieth, Kisner, Lovemark) last year finished the tournament gaining more than two strokes off the tee. With Greens in Regulation still averaging over 70% for the tournament, I will also be factoring Good Drive % which looks at the % of fairways hit + the % of greens/fringe in regulation from off the fairway. As always, Strokes Gained: Approach will be relevant as only one player inside the Top 10 and three players inside the Top 20 lost strokes with their approach last season. With the course being a par 70, we also have 12 Par 4's this week with 10 of them falling between 400 and 500 yards so when looking at Par 4 Scoring be sure to factor...

Sentry Tournament of Champions Happy New Year fantasy golf fans. The 2018 portion of the season kicks off this week with the Sentry Tournament of Champions and while it's a small field/no cut event, GOLF IS BACK!! There will be 34 golfers, all winners in 2017, traveling to Kapalua to take on the Plantation Course which is a unique Par 73 setup that stretches out to 7,452 yards. It consists of just three Par 3's with 11 Par 4's and four Par 5's and has seen an average score of -21 over the last five years so Birdie's will most definitely be at a premium. As you can see with the hole composition below(via Fantasy National Golf Club), five of the Par 4's fall between 350 and 400 yards so I will be looking closely at the players who excelled from that range in 2017, especially down the stretch and into the fall season. The fairways are very wide and forgiving which will take a bit away from the Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Accuracy element and although the greens are also larger than average, I am using Strokes Gained: Approach with an emphasis on Proximity. The greens are very undulated and slow so players who can get the ball closer to the pin consistently will have a way better shot at making Birdies. I will also be looking at players who are consistently better putters overall(Strokes Gained: Putting) and combining that with three-putt avoidance. Course History is another key this week and right behind the stats model this week. There are 14 players who have never played in this tournament and only three players(Spieth, DJ, Dufner) who have played here more than twice in the last five years. Current form is last up in the overall model but one thing I will be looking at is how active...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel – RSM Classic
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel - RSM Classic DFSR is proud to bring you, Chris Durell. Chris is also providing his DFS PGA Weekly cheatsheet where he provides stats, course history, current form, fantasy points, and much more. Grab your copy today and edge out the competition. RSM Classic Welcome back golf fans. This week the PGA Tour heads to Sea Island, Georgia for the RSM Classic. Since changing names three years ago(formerly the McGladrey Classic), the event has been played at two different venues here at Sea Island Resort for the first two days of the event. Golfers will get a crack at both the Seaside and Plantation courses on Thursday and Friday and those who make the cut will then play their final two rounds of golf on the Seaside course on Saturday and Sunday. Both courses are on the short side so I when weighing Strokes gained: Off the Tee this week, I will putting emphasis on accuracy once again. This is, even more, key on the Seaside course where a majority of the holes have water and/or bunkers and marsh just outside the primary rough area. The Seaside course is also a Par 70 and has 12 par 4's and looking at the hole composition below, you will notice that nine of those Par 4's fall between 400 and 450 yards so that will something I will be looking at closely as well. The average winning score here over the past five years has been -16 and even saw a tournament low -22 two years when Kevin Kisner took home the hardware. The other factor to pay attention to this week will be the weather as the course is a Links-Style setup being on the coast. Looking at the weather update at the bottom of the article, the wind looks to be worse on Friday but not too terribly bad at the moment. I won't be putting too much emphasis on it besides maybe targeting a few more players playing on the Plantation course on Friday as it is more inland than the Seaside course. Tee times are not yet listed so be sure to...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel – OHL Classic at Mayakoba
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel - OHL Classic at Mayakoba DFSR is proud to bring you, Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. As every week in DFS PGA changes with the course setup, field of players and weather, Chris will be providing a range of different picks for cash games as well as upside plays for tournaments. You can also grab a copy of Chris's free DFS PGA Weekly cheatsheet which includes course history, current form, stats, and much more. OHL Classic at Mayakoba Welcome back golf fans. This week the PGA Tour heads to Mexico for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba which is hosted the El Camaleon Golf Club. This week's field is a little beefier than last week as we the 10th ranked player in the world, Rickie Fowler, teeing it up with eight other Top 50 players including former winners of this event, Charlie Hoffman(24th in the OWGR) and defending champ Pat Perez(18th in the OWGR). From a statistical perspective, I will be weighing Off the Tee a little higher than Approach this week with an emphasis on Accuracy as the course has some tight landing areas combined with many hazards including trees in the fairway, large bunkers, mangrove wetlands and more. Those who spray the ball off the tee will have a ton of trouble saving par and finding their way up the leaderboard that has seen an average winning score of -18 over the past five years. With low projected scores like that, you will also see Birdie or Better % weighed high in my model. Below, you will also see a hole by hole breakdown which shows five of the 11 Par 4's fall in between 450 and 500 yards so I will be looking closely at that on Fantasy National this week. I will also be weighing Par 5 Scoring quite high this week as looking at the hole by hole stats tab on my cheatsheet, you will see that at least 34% of all birdies at El Camaleon come have come from those three holes(5th, 7th, 13th) over the past five years. Let's now take a look at the course snapshot, some top trends, and then jump into the course history, current form and top stats picks for the week. Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel – Shriners Hospitals for Children Open
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel - Shriners Hospitals for Children Open DFSR is proud to bring you, Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. Leave your question/comment below in the comments section, find him in the DFSR Chat room or hit him up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9). Also, be sure to grab your copy of Chris's DFS PGA Weekly cheatsheet. Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Welcome back for another week of daily fantasy golf. Not counting the Sanderson Farms Championship, we are back to a full field event for the first time since the Safeway Open at the start of October. That also means we get back to regular viewing times but that makes me somewhat sad as I really enjoyed the late night golf we got at the CIMB Classic(Malaysia), CJ Cup(Korea), and WGC-HSBC Champions(China) events. This week the Tour heads back to Las Vegas and TPC Summerlin for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. It's a weaker field with none of the Top 10 players and only five of the Top 50 players(Hoffman, Chappell, Simpson, Finau, Woodland) in the world golf rankings. Regardless of the field strength, there are some excellent storylines including A.J. McInerney's first career PGA Tour start in his hometown of Las Vegas. Not only did he grow up in Vegas and go to UNLV, he was also a survivor of the tragic shootings a month ago. I won't be on him for DFS this week as I feel the emotions of his first start in this setting will be a lot to overcome to play some top golf but it will be impossible not to pull for him. The course this week is a Par 71 setup that stretches out to 7,255 yards. There are three average Par 3 holes under 200 yards and one longer one that comes in at 239 yards. As a Par 71, there are three Par 5's, two of which are of average length with the third coming in over 600 yards and will be only reachable in two by the longest of hitters. With just three Par 5's, there is one extra Par 4 this week(11 total) which is the reason you will see the Par 4 Scoring weighted a bit higher than Par 5 Scoring this week but both will be vital to...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel – WGC HSBC Champions
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel - WGC HSBC Champions DFSR is proud to bring you, Chris Durell. Chris is also providing his DFS PGA Weekly cheatsheet and Season-Long Trends Sheet at absolutely no cost. WGC HSBC Champions Welcome back golf fans. I hope you are enjoying the start of the new PGA Tour season and if you have paid close enough attention you might notice it has a similar feel as a year ago as the first three tournament winners(Brendan Steele, Pat Perez, Justin Thomas) were all winners in the fall portion of the 2016-17 season. The players now travel to Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, China for the seasons first WGC event, the HSBC Champions. Hideki Matsuyama returns as the defending champion in a stacked 78-player field that includes five of the Top 10 and 33 of the Top 50 players in the world. The course is designed in a forest-like setting with a ton of trees combined with elevation changes, rolling landscape and water hazards that are present on 11 of the 18 holes. Over the past four years, we have seen a mix of long hitters and accuracy players succeed here and it has to do with the varying hole lengths and options off the tee. There will be a handful of holes where players can choose to go less-than-driver off the tee to get a better position for their approach shots and for those pulling out driver, they will need to be somewhat accurate with all the hazards present which will greatly reduce their chances of hitting a green in regulation. Speaking of approach shots, I will be looking closer at Proximity this week with the rolling multi-tiered greens. The winning score over the past four years has exceeded -20 three times which elevates the importance of Birdie or Better % which correlates very closely to Draftkings scoring. I will also be splitting Par 4 and 5 scoring as the players who have had the most success here have done well on both(Ross Fisher, Marc Leishman, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Henrik Stenson). Below is a look at the Strokes Gained leaders...
