Sony Open The first tournament of 2019 was an exciting one as Xander Schauffele edged out Gary Woodland by one stroke with an incredible 11 under par 62 in the final round. Rounding out the Top 5 were Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Marc Leishman, and Rory McIlroy. This week the PGA Tour remains in Hawaii but travels to Waialae Country Club in Honolulu for the Sony Open. The field is never elite here but this season we do have two of the Top 5 (Justin Thomas & Bryson DeChambeau) and 20 of the Top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings so we should be in for another exciting week of golf. The course is much different from last week as Waialae is a Par 70 setup that reaches just over 7,000 yards. It is somewhat of an old-school setup where golfers can't just go out and bomb as far as possible and wedge it on the green. The fairways are narrow and the rough can be very penal in areas which not only puts emphasis on hitting the fairways but also on placement to have a shot at hitting the greens. Because of this, we can expect the less accurate and/or longer hitters in the field to implement a "less than driver" approach off the tee. After getting the ball in play off the tee, golfers will need to be on point with their mid to long iron approaches to these fast Bermuda greens. The Strokes Gained: Approach metric is where players have most separated themselves from the pack over the past few years. One thing that is similar to the Plantation Course is the low scoring as the average winning score over the last five years is -20 so as with most weeks, Birdie or Better % will be heavily weighed. Let's now take a look at the course overview...

Sentry Tournament of Champions Christmas and New Years have come and gone and that means it is time to get back to the DFS PGA grind. The fall season was an exciting stretch of golf that closed with two golfers ending long winless streaks as Matt Kuchar won the Mayakoba Classic and his first tourney since 2014 and Charles Howell III won the RSM Classic which was his first win since 2007. We also saw two first time winners in Kevin Tway(Safeway Open) and Cameron Champ(Sanderson Farms Championship) while Brooks Koepka(CJ Cup) and Bryson DeChambeau(Shriners Open) continued their dominance after seasons with two and three wins respectively. The 2019 portion of the PGA Tour season kicks off, as always, with somewhat of an All-Star game as each player who hoisted a trophy last season is invited to the Plantation Course in Kapalua for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. There is not much difficulty at this course as demonstrated by the winning scores which average -23 over the last five years. The fairways are huge and the greens are very easy to hit so, for the most part, this turns into a second shot and birdie fest. Because of this, I will be looking heavily at Strokes Gained: Approach and Birdie or Better % for my stats model. The other thing I noticed when breaking down the last few years leaderboards is that the winner has separated himself in Par 4 Scoring in a big way so that will also be near the top of my stats this week. This event is also a no-cut event with just 36 players so upside is key not only when constructing GPP lineups but cash games as well. Separating yourself in GPP's is a lot harder with a small field but one of the best ways to do this is by leaving some salary on the...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Mayakoba Golf Classic
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Mayakoba Golf Classic Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. Mayakoba Golf Classic This week the PGA Tour heads back outside the US for a trip to the El Camaleon Golf Course in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The field isn't great but is headlined with Rickie Fowler(9th in OWGR), Jordan Spieth(14th in OWGR), and Tony Finau(15th in OWGR) as three of the Top 10 players in the Official World Golf Rankings teeing it up this week. The course is a shorter Par 71 that stretches out just under 7,900 yards and with that lack of distance and emphasis hitting the fairways, we will likely see a lot of golfers clubbing down to 3-woods or irons. This would be the reason why the average fairways hit (62-65%) is higher than you would expect with smaller landing areas. Looking at the hole breakdowns, there is a very short Par 3 and two average length Par 3's and where the course gets difficult is on the Par 4's as five of 11 of them are between 450 and 500 yards and have played as the hardest holes on the course over the last five years, by far. I will be looking closely at performance from this range using the Fantasy National Golf Club tools as the players can separate themselves from the field on these holes. The other thing I will be weighing along with Birdie or Better %(low winning scores) is Par 5 scoring as around 35% of all birdies will come on these three holes. Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. Shriners Hospitals for Children Open After a three week stop in Asia, the PGA Tour returns to the United States this week for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the first time in a month(not counting the Sanderson Farms), we are also back to a full field event with a cut which will send the Top 70 players and ties to the weekend. The field has a couple of big names with two of the Top 10(Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler) and four more(Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau, Webb Simpson, Patrick Cantlay) inside the Top 25 in the Official World Golf Rankings. The course is an average length(7,243 yards) Par 71 with four Par 3's, 11 Par 4's, and three Par 5's. Looking at the Par 4 holes, there are seven of them that fall between 400 and 450 yards so I will be looking closely at performance on approach shots from around 125-150 yards for the most part. Proximity will be the key when breaking down Strokes Gained: Approach as well as the greens here are larger than average with some undulation on most of them so placement is key. Looking at the winning scores from previous years, it is clear this should turn into a birdie-fest so Birdie or Better % will also be weighed very heavily in my model. Don't worry too much about last year as it was cool and very windy throughout the week and looking at the forecast(see bottom of article), this year's event looks like terrific weather with high's in the mid 70's. Let's now take a look at the course and some of the top picks in each price range. Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – WGC HSBC Champions
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – WGC HSBC Champions Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. WGC HSBC Champions Welcome back golf fans. This week the PGA Tour is split into two events with the Sanderson Farms Championship from the Country Club of Jackson and the WGC HSBC Champions from Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, China. Both tournaments are listed on DraftKings but FanDuel just has the WGC event so that is the one I will be concentrating on this week in my article. As with any World Golf Championship event, the field is very strong and includes last weeks winner and new World #1 Brooks Koepka along with seven of the Top 10 and 35 of the World's Top 50 golfers. For the third straight week, this is a shortened field, no-cut event with 78 players battling for the title. From a fantasy strategy standpoint, it is much more viable to go with a stars and scrubs approach as al six of your players will play all four rounds. Since this WGC event moved to China, the Sheshan International GC has hosted it each year. We have seen the winning scores vary a bit over the five years with Justin Rose winning at -14 and Bubba Watson winning at -11 but the in each of the other three years it has been a birdie fest with a winning score south of -20. The one thing that remains constant over those five years are the hard to hit fairways as the field has averaged just over 50% driving accuracy in that time. What has separated the players at the top of leaderboard here has been that accuracy as the average fairways hit for the Top 10 in those five years is right around 59% which in turn has helped those players hit 67% of the greens vs. the overall field average of 58%. Not only will I be concentrating on Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges Chris will be bringing you weekly PGA picks, analysis, and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings and FanDuel. The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges This week the PGA Tour travels to JeJu Island in Korea for the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges, the second tournament of the three-event Asian swing. This event was added to the schedule last season so course history is at a minimum, especially considering the windy conditions during that event. The field is very strong once again this year with two of the World's Top 5 golfers teeing it up including Player of the Year Brooks Koepka and defending champion at this event, Justin Thomas. Joining them are 22 other players who rank inside the Top 50 in Official World Golf Rankings most notably Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama, and last weeks winner Marc Leishman. Like last week, the event is a short field of 78 players and will once again have no cut. The course is listed on the scorecard as just shy of 7,200 yards and is a Par 72 setup with the standard four Par 3's, four Par 5's, and 10 Par 4 holes. Despite the windy conditions a year ago, the fairways were hit at 72.5% clip which goes to show the level of difficulty off the tee. If the wind is down this year like it shows in the forecast that number is likely going to exceed 75%. For me, this takes some emphasis off Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and adds a ton of emphasis on Strokes Gained: Approach which will be my top stat this week. Looking at some quotes from players last year(via Future of Fantasy Golfanac), the greens are big and can be tricky with undulation meaning Proximity is a place I will concentrate on heavily as well. Looking at the 10 Par 4 holes, eight of them are under 450 yards and produced 43% of all birdies on the week. When looking at Par...
