The Course Congaree Golf Club - Ridgeland, SC Par 71 - 7,655 Yards Greens - Champion Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Welcome back golf fans. First of all, my apologies for no article for the Memorial. Looking back, I believe it was the first or maybe only the second article for a regular PGA Tour event I have missed in my 5.5 years with DFSR. I won't let it happen again! With the cancelation of the RBC Canadian Open, there is a new event and course this season as the Tour heads to Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina for the Palmetto Championship. Despite hosting World #1 Dustin Johnson and #8 Brooks Koepka, this is by far one of the worst fields we have seen since probably the Puerto Rico Open. It makes sense, however, as next week is the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines so tons of players are already in La Jolla tuning up their games on site. The course is a unique Tom Fazio design that is surrounded by trees but also has an Australian feel with sand absolutely everywhere. Rather than rough outside the fairways, you see not only sand but waste areas and there is also water in play on 10 holes. It is set up as a Par 71 that stretches over 7600 yards and plays firm and fast. I will keep my stats model fairly simple looking at ball striking, long iron proximity distances, and extra emphasis on strokes gained: around the green/sand saves. With all that said, let's get into some picks. Top Tier Targets Brooks Koepka World Golf Ranking (#8) Vegas Odds (8/1) Draftkings ($11,100) FanDuel ($12,100) While this feels like a possible Koepka letdown before an insane performance at a major, I think we have to take one of...

It was another incredible major championship capped off with Phil Mickelson picking up his 2nd PGA Championship, 6th major, and became the oldest player ever to win a major. To say it was a surprise victory would be an understatement going into the week as Lefty hasn't won on the PGA Tour since 2013 and hadn't tallied a Top 10 since the St. Jude Invitational last August. It won't be long before we see Phil again as he is in the field for this week's Charles Schwab Challenge which hosts a strong field led by three Top 10 players in the World in Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Patrick Reed. The event name has changed many a time over the years(Fort Worth Inv, Dean & Deluca Inv, Crowne Plaza Inv) but the course has remained the same as Colonial Country Club has hosted the event going back to the first edition in 1970. Let's take a look at the scorecard, course notes, previous winners, and then look at some ket stats in my model. Strokes Gained: Ball Striking Ball striking is always going to be a top stat for me but I want to do in this section moving forward is really dig into what I am targeting in terms of narrowing down the Off the Tee and Approach stats. Let's start with SG: Off the Tee where I am...

With a rotating course schedule, this year's PGA returns to the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island for the first time since 2012 when Rory McIlroy roared to a -13 winning score and eight-stroke victory. His winning score did the course no justice as he made it look much easier than it was with only 20 players shooting under par with Rory the only one reaching double-digits. The course is a Pete Dye masterpiece and one of the toughest tests there is in golf. It is a classic Pete Dye design that forces players to be creative and really think out every single shot. Unlike other Pete Dye tracks, however, it adds a ton of distance and listed at over 7,800 yards, is the longest major championship venue in history. The course is somewhat of a Links-style course as all 18 holes are in view of the ocean and the winds unpredictable, inconsistent, and can wreak havoc on a golf round. The big difference with Kiawah Island and other Links courses is that several of the greens here are raised up taking away the traditional bump and run approach shots that we see at other Links venues. This adds a whole other level of difficulty if the winds play a factor. Instead of me trying to describe the course, have a look for yourself in this...

The Course TPC Craig Ranch Par 72 - 7,468 Yards Greens - Bentgrass **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** This week the PGA Tour heads to Texas and TPC Craig Ranch for the 2021 AT&T Byron Nelson. Compared to previous years, it has a fairly strong field led by Jon Rahm(#3) and Bryson DeChambeau(#4). The event also moves to a new location and you may not have heard of the course(I know I haven't) as its previous PGA exposure was the now Korn Ferry Tour(Web.com then) finals in 2012 and 2008. One thing is clear when looking at the scorecard. This course is a beast listed at over 7,400 yards and features another set of tough Par 4's with six over 450 yards and three over 480 yards. The Par 3's are no walk in park either as three of the four are over 215 yards. In going through the flyover of TPC Craig ranch, we can see the very forgiving fairways that the players have mentioned in interviews and also the large green complexes. This would suggest we may see a birdie fest for the bombers or those who are spot on with their long irons but there is still one defense we haven't talked about. The wind! Thursday looks great and very consistent 5-8 mph winds all day but Friday is where it gets a bit interesting. The early tee times(Friday) may have an advantage here as winds pick up around the time the second wave heads out for their rounds. It won't be something I use in a model, by any means, but will come more into play when deciding between player A and Player B. It will especially come into play for the Friday showdown so stay tuned for updates. For my model this week, with...

Holmes(-14) This week the PGA Tour heads back to Quail Hollow Club for the Wells Fargo Championship for the first time since 2019 after last years event was canceled due to the pandemic. A very strong field including seven of the Top 10 in the World will take on the beast that is Quail Hollow Club. It has ranked Top 10 hardest courses on Tour(including majors) in three straight and four of the last five times it has hosted this event. I say that because in 2017 it was Eagle Point hosting the event while Quail Hollow prepared for the PGA Championship. The first thing that jumps off the page when looking at the Par 71 setup is the 7,600 yards listed on the scorecard meaning you best be wearing your big boy pants this week if you seek to contend. Looking at the last two Wells Fargo Championships(2019, 2018) only two players who finished Top 10 averaged under 300 yards off the tee, and those who finished Top 5 averaged just over 312 yards off the tee. When breaking down Strokes Gained: Ball Striking, Driving Distance is right up there this week. Not only do you need to be long off the tee but you better be good with the long irons as well with three of the four Par 3's coming in over 200 yards including the monster 249 yard 6th hole. That leads into some of the hardest Par 4's on Tour with eight over 450 yards, five over 480 yards, and three over 500!! Strokes...

The Course Innisbrook Resort(Copperhead Course) Par 71 - 7,340 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2019 - Paul Casey(-8) 2018 - Paul Casey(-10) 2017 - Adam Hadwin(-14) 2016 - Charl Schwartzel(-7) 2015 - Jordan Spieth(-10) This week the PGA Tour returns to Florida and heads to Innisbrook Resort for the Valspar Championship. The event had been played annually at Innisbrook going back to the year 2000 until last year when it was canceled due to COVID-19. This year's field is loaded at the top led four of the Top 10 in the World Golf Rankings including #1 Dustin Johnson and #2 Justin Thomas. Back in the Florida Swing means another tough test as Innisbrook Resort has ranked as a Top 10 hardest course five times in six years from 2014 to 2019 and ranked #6 four times. To put that into perspective, those rankings also include the four majors. The difficulty comes with a combination of small tree-lined fairways, doglegs forcing landing zones off the tee, tougher rough than we have seen lately, and very small greens(5,800 avg sq ft). Looking at the last five trips here, the field has averaged under 60% in both fairways hit and greens in regulation. This puts a huge emphasis on Strokes Gained: Ball Striking and that is, by far, my top stat in my long-term and short-term models this week. With small greens and low GIR numbers, I will also be looking at Scrambling/Strokes Gained: Around the Green as those who can save par from off the green more often are going...
