We are coming off an exhilarating finish to the Farmers Insurance Open where Max Homa, the King of Cali, came from five strokes back going into the final round to eventually win by 2 strokes. It was his sixth career victory and fourth in the state of California. With that success, it's surprising he is taking a week off. This week the PGA Tour heads to San Diego, California for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The quality of the field is on the weaker side with three players(Spieth, Hovland, Fitzpatrick) ranked inside the Top 15 and just seven ranked inside the Top 50 in Official World Golf Rankings. The reason, in my opinion, is one of two things. The pace of play here with celebrities at the pro-am is about two to three gears below a regular event and the other reason could be the three-course rotation. This marks the final multi-course rotation event of the season so there are multiple things to note. First of all, the cut this week will be Top 60 & ties due to time and will come after the third round on Saturday. Each player will get one round at Pebble Beach GL, Spyglass Hill, and Monterey Peninsula with those making the cut playing the final round on...

This week the PGA Tour stays in Cali and heads to Torrey Pines Golf Course for the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open. Like last week, we have another multi-course rotation with players playing one round on the South and North courses on Thursday and Friday before the Top 65 & ties move on to play the South Course on Saturday and Sunday. Another similarity to last week is the elite field led by five of the Top 10 and nine of the Top 25 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are teeing it up this week. One quick note before moving into the course, stats, and picks. To not interfere with the NFL Playoffs, this week's event will be played from Wednesday to Saturday. With three of the four rounds(for those who make the cut) played on the South course, this is where I will concentrate my research and base my stats model around this week. With the North course playing much easier(at least a stroke easier in each of the last five years and over 3.5 strokes easier last year), it will be important to focus there when constructing showdown lineups for the first two rounds. Both courses are Par 72 setups with the biggest difference being distance as the North Course is listed at 7,258 yards while the South Course is listed at a whopping 7,765 yards. This immediately brings two things to the forefront when building models and it starts with Driving Distance which is huge in navigating the seven Par 4's that are over 450 yards and two Par 5's that stretch over...

That's right, the PGA Tour heads to La Quinta, California for The American Express this week where there will be three courses used to accommodate the pro-ams in the field. Each player in the field will play one round on each course from Thursday through Saturday with the cut of Top 65 and ties happening after round 3 is complete. Those players will then play the final round on the Stadium Course on Sunday. The field for the American Express is stacked this year with five of the Top 7 and 10 of the Top 20 players in the OWGR teeing it up in Cali. Making that even more interesting is the fact almost every one of those players has good event history here. Looking at the courses, all three are Par 72's that come in under 7,200 yards and have been on the easier side in terms of average scoring which makes sense with the presence of amateurs. That means a lot of birdies for the pros and the reason we have seen a winning score in the -20's each year going back to 2016 when these three courses became the staple here. When researching and looking at stats, keep in mind that there is only Shotlink data on the Stadium Course. This makes it somewhat challenging when trying to put together a model so for these types of events...

This week the PGA Tour stays in Hawaii and heads from the Plantation Course at Kapalua over to Waialae Country Club in Honolulu for the 2023 Sony Open. The quality of the field drops significantly from last week but still includes seven of the Top 25 players in the world including defending champion Hideki Matsuyama. While the views are similar, the course is much different from last week's wide-open fairways and large greens. Waialae CC is a much smaller Par 70 setup that is 7,044 yards on the scorecard. Wide open is also not on the menu this week as the course is much more of a positional course, especially off the tee. This has accuracy much higher in my off-the-tee model than distance. Strokes Gained: Approach and Par 4 Scoring are going to be 1A/1B in my stats model this week. On the approach side, I will look at mid-iron Proximity ranges(125-150, 150-175) and with the need for accuracy, I will also look at Fairway Proximity. With the field accuracy below average at this event and word the rough has been grown out to around 3" the average GIR should remain low which is also going put more emphasis on Strokes Gained: Around the Green and as always, a hot putter can help solve deficiencies in any of those areas. Hideki is a great example as he ranked 26th in SG: Approach last year but gained a whopping 7.3 strokes putting to lead the field in that area. Outside of the very windy 2020 Sony Open,...

Things start with a bit of a vacation event as all the winners from 2022 and those who qualified for the Tour Championship will tee it up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. The field of 39 players(Rory the only WD) will all play four rounds of golf as this is a no-cut event. While the event name has changed several times, the Plantation Course has hosted the previous year's champions since 1999 and the course has played as one of the easiest on tour with its wide fairways and very large greens. The length of the course definitely affects my model this week as I will be looking at guys who are long off the tee. I will combine that with golfers who have been strong with their irons during the fall season and for those who are a little shorter off the tee, I will be looking at a strong long iron game in their profile. I say this, as it is hard to eliminate anyone from your multi-entry player pool this week with the quality of the field and fact it's a no-cut event. The biggest factor in the winning score and reason for the variance over the years is the weather. Last year it was relatively calm throughout which led to the massive -34 winning score. Looking at the early forecast below, it appears we could see similar weather and another winning score in the mid -20's to low -30's....

We have reached the conclusion of the fall season as the PGA Tour heads to Sea Island Golf Club for the RSM Classic. This event has also used a multi-course rotation since 2015 where golfers play one round at both the Plantation and Seaside courses with the Top 65(and ties) playing the final two rounds on just the Seaside course. Both courses are on the short side at just over 7,000 yards with the Seaside a par 70 and Plantation a Par 72 setup. Both courses have also played fairly easy in terms of field average scoring ranking no worse than 25th hardest over the last five years. In my stats model this week, Strokes Gained: Approach combined with mid-range iron proximity(125-150 & 150-175 yards) leads the way. This is a course where the field hits a lot of greens but with the undulation, it will be very important to hit the right quadrant to have a shot at birdie or even par. When looking at Strokes Gained: Off the Tee the is week, I am focusing on driving accuracy/fairways gained. With the high amount of greens hit here, it is only going to give you a better shot to get closer than your opponent if you are in a scoring position on the fairway. Outside of those two main stats, I am also mixing in Par 4 scoring, especially from 400-450 yards, Opportunities Gained, and Strokes Gained: Putting on Bermuda grass. Mix...
