After some near-flawless execution by Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele in the Zurich Classic team event, the PGA Tour has a week off travels to Mexico for a new event on the schedule, the Mexico Open. With an early withdrawal from Daniel Berger, this may go down as one of the worst fields in recent memory. It is, however, led by World #2 Jon Rahm but consists of just 14 of the Top 100! I won't deep into the course as we don't really have a ton of data. I did watch a preview show from "Tap it In" on YouTube and pulled these notes: Par 73 Resort course converted to a Par 71 for this event Long on the scorecard and plays at sea level so will play long as well Lots of room off the tee so should cater a bit to the bombers Outside the fairways is water(in play 13 holes) and waste areas 55 bunks throughout(below average) Coastal course so weather will big in the final score playing out(tournament director in video predicted -18 winning score) With that, I am keeping things simple and as always, looking for players who are trending in ball striking both in the short-term and long-term and will also add in some distance off the tee and long iron proximity into my model. The good news for the field this week is that he has already withdrawn and for good reason as he has top form with the Masters coming up next week. Rory Mcilroy(#9) headlines the field as the only player in the field currently ranked Top 10 and joining him at the top are Bryson DeChambeau(#14) coming off an early exit at the match play and Hideki Matsuyama who has skipped the last two events with an injury as he prepares to defend his Masters' title. That's right, we are only one week away from the greatest golf tournament on the planet, and leading into it the talk of Tiger Woods possible return might actually overshadow the event in Texas.  While I will be closely tracking that like my crypto portfolio in a bull market, I will also be playing a ton of DFS this week to help boost the bankroll and more importantly grab a few more Milli Maker tickets for the big dance! The field, this week, will take on TPC San Antonio which has proved to be a tough test and worthy event leading up to a major and reason we see some top players still in the field. This week is another two-event week but for this article, we will be focusing on WGC Dell Technologies Match Play from Austin Country Club. While the event dates back to 1999, it has only been held here at Austin CC since 2016 so that is the data we will be using in terms of course history and the stats model. Speaking of that stats model, I am keeping it pretty simple this week and looking for players who are trending in terms of ball striking, especially with the irons, par 4 scoring, putting on Bermuda greens, and making birdies. More importantly this week, in terms of strategy, is optimizing your lineups based on the complete bracket and possible outcomes. The Course Innisbrook Resort Par 71 - 7,340 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2021 - Sam Burns(-17) 2019 - Paul Casey(-8) 2018 - Paul Casey(-10) 2017 - Adam Hadwin(-14) 2016 - Charl Schwartzel(-7) It was a wild Players Championship that was extended into Monday but the good news for the players is that Tour stays in Florida this week for the Valspar Championship. The is obviously much weaker this week but still strong at the top led by Collin Morikawa(#2), Viktor Hovland(#3), Justin Thomas(#8), Xander Schauffele(#9), and Duston Johnson(#10) all of whom rank inside the Top 10 in the World. The 144-man field will tee it up on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort which is a Par 71 that is listed at 7,340 yards on the scorecard. It is another tough test of golf for the field as the course has ranked 14th, 3rd, 4th, 12th, and 3rd hardest courses on Tour(scoring average) of the non-majors/Players Championship. Aiding in that difficulty is the weather and specifically, the wind so make sure to pay close attention to the forecast as lock approaches. The first thing that stands out with this Par 71 setup is the hole distribution as there are five par 3's with four of them stretching over 200 yards and the fifth at 195 yards. The next thing to note is that even with a Par 71, there are still four Par 5's and some of the most difficult on Tour. With all that said, I am still very high on Par 4 Scoring as it has shown the highest correlation of the three in terms of success and finishing position in this event. With this very much being a position course off the tee, I am also high on Strokes...

The Course TPC Sawgrass Par 72 - 7,256 Yards Greens - Bermuda **Click the image above to see a hole by hole breakdown from PGATour.com** Previous Five Winners 2021 - Juston Thomas(-14) 2019 - Rory McIlroy(-16) 2018 - Webb Simpson(-18) 2017 - Si Woo Kim(-10) 2016 - Jason Day(-15) This week the "strongest field in golf" heads to TPC Sawgrass for the (all caps)PLAYERS Championship. Last year, it was Justin Thomas hoisting the hardware with a spectacular tee to green effort where he gained 13 strokes on the field. The only reason Lee Westwood, Bryson, and others had a chance was the JT's average putter(+1.6 or 52nd in the field). When looking at the strokes gained data, it was an almost identical win for Rory in 2019 as he gained 13 strokes tee to green en route to winning while finishing 56th in SG: Putting. While we do have a very strong field, it is not categorized as the "toughest" in terms of scoring as it has only ranked inside the Top 15 hardest courses once(2017) in the last five trips to TPC Sawgrass. The field is even stronger than last year as all of the Top 10 and 48 of the Top 50 players in the World will be teeing it up at TPC Sawgrass this week. The course is a Pete Dye gem that, like almost all of his designs, comes with tight fairways, lots of doglegs and hazards forcing accuracy and with TPC Sawgrass in Florida, that means a ton of water(in play on 17 holes). Overall, it is going to take a strong all-around game to beat the best players in the world but below I will go over a few of my key stats in the model this week.
