Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 With just seven race to go in the regular season, the race to the Monster Energy Cup Series Playoffs is really starting to heat up. The gap from 14th to 18th in the standings(Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, Erik Jones, Ryan Newman, and Daniel Suarez) is just 12 points which means every single playoff point from here on out will be a battle. This is where I feel NASCAR really hit it out of the park is with the points system. In the old days, you would see drivers all the time let a faster car by in the hopes of getting that position back later in the race but now with the importance of points at the end of stages, no position is cakewalk anymore creating excellent racing throughout the pack and through the entire race. Buckle up as the final stretch before the playoffs is going to get intense! It all starts with a trip to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 on Sunday afternoon. For the first time in a while, we are back to "normal" race weekend with opening practice and qualifying on Friday with two final practices on Saturday. This week the series will also go back to the 750 hp package used on all road courses and ovals less than 1.25 miles. The racing won't be much different than previous races here so we can definitely look closer at track history this week. The only change is the PJ1 compound which is being put on the bottom groove and in lane 3 all the way up to the wall(similar last year but not all the way up to the wall). From a track-type standpoint, I have always looked at the other one-mile intermediates but Dover is a different animal with banking so I have also added flat track(short) rankings over the last two years as well. Despite there being no driver to lead 100 or more laps in last...

The 148th OPEN Championship The final major of the 2018-19 season has finally arrived as the top players in the world head to Royal Portrush Golf Club for the 148th OPEN Championship, and for the first time since 1951. While we have no course history at this event to pull from, the European Tour did play the Irish Open at Portrush in 2012. There won't be much to draw from that when breaking down stats as there are two brand new holes(#7, #8) which replace the old 17th and 18th holes. Those are not the only changes to the course as there are five new greens, eight new tee boxes(to help add some length and strategy), and 10 new bunkers. Even with the those added bunkers it is still the lowest bunker count(58) of any OPEN venue but don't think it will be out of the player's heads. From looking at images and hearing what players are saying, the difficulty level will be elevated if you find yourself in one of these bunkers. Like any "true" Links course, the biggest defense is always the weather and no tournament is more important to pay attention to this narrative right up to(or close to) lock. The fairways are slightly wider than PGA Tour average taking away the need for accuracy a bit the other factor besides wind that can change that is the thicker than normal rough we see at the OPEN. Early reports are showing players using a "less than driver" strategy to ensure fairway hit and shot at the greens. As of now, I am simply looking at Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, especially in the short-term coming into this week. Looking at the projected approach shot distances, it looks like golfers will see plenty of mid-iron approach with six of the Par 4's falling between 400 and 450 yards mixed with...

First time with MLB? Be sure to read our free MLB Ebooks on building lineups, general strategy and more. We've got you completely covered. Quaker State 400 After a wild Daytona race last week, things have really started to heat up when looking at the standings with eight races to go until the Playoffs. Ryan Newman is currently sitting in the final Playoff position with notables in Daniel Suarez, Erik Jones, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, and Paul Menard on the wrong side of the bubble. It is going to be a crazy ride down the stretch which is going to create some exciting racing for fans. Buckle up folks! This week the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400 on Saturday night. It's the seventh mile and half track this season and sixth using the 2019 Rules Package. I have once again, added this data to the cheatsheet and also added it to the model as well. I will talk about some of these trends in the Track Type section below. One thing we have seen here since the Cup Series came to Kentucky back in 2011 is that starting up front is very important. The winner has come from the front row in three straight races and in five of the eight races here overall. Each of those five front row starters also led 75 or more laps in their win with four of them leading 150 or more laps. In an attempt to increase the passing with this new package, NASCAR and Kentucky Speedway will be laying down some PH1 "track bite". PJ1 will not only be used the next two weekends at Kentucky and New Hampshire but in hopes of improving the ability to pass, the traction compound will be used (along with the tire dragon) in all three turns in the upper groove at Pocono in a few weeks. #nascar — Bob Pockrass (@bobpockrass) July 8, 2019 Kentucky Speedway - Sparta, KY Track - 1.5 Mile D-Shaped Oval Intermediate 14° of Banking Last Six Winners at Kentucky 2018 - Martin Truex Jr.(started 1st, led 174 laps) 2017 -...

John Deere Classic With the OPEN Championship at Royal Portrush just a week away we have a very interesting week for daily fantasy golf. A lot of players have already made their way across the pond to play the Irish Open last week, including Jon Rahm who won the event, and this week another group of top players heads over to play in the Scottish Open. That leaves us with another weak-field John Deere Classic that contains no players inside the Top 50 and just 12 who rank inside the Top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings. While the field lacks the top talent in the World, it more than makes up for it with a ton of young, talented, and exciting players. In a better field last week at TPC Twin Cities we saw Matthew Wolff, a shot behind Bryson DeChambeau already in the clubhouse, make a 26-foot Eagle putt for the win on the 18th hole. TPC Deere Run is a Par 71 that has a posted distance of 7,268 yards. It is one of the easiest courses on Tour routinely ranking around 40th(of about 50 courses) in difficulty annually and -22 has been the average winning score over the last five years here. One of the things that drives the lack of difficulty(for Tour Pros) are the wider than average fairways that produce an average driving accuracy over 70%. While the Bentgrass greens are slightly smaller than average(5,500 sq ft), they are soft and slow(11.5 on stimpmeter) and very receptive making them play bigger while generating a GIR above 70% on average. This puts a ton of emphasis on Strokes Gained: Approach and I will also be looking at Proximity from the mid yardages ranges(125-175 yards). Looking at previous leaderboards(via Fantasy National), I also noticed a much higher correlation from Par 4 Scoring to finish position than par 5...

Coke Zero Sugar 400 Daytona International Speedway - Daytona Beach, FL Track - 2.5 Mile Tri-Oval Superspeedway 31° of Banking This week the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series heads back to Daytona International Speedway for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 under the lights on Saturday night. It will be a very special race for some as it marks the final time the Daytona Summer race weekend will fall in or around Independence Day, a tradition that has been around since Fireball Roberts won the first summer race here back in 1959. The race will now host the regular season finale which, in my opinion, adds a ton of intrigue for not just the fans but the teams as well knowing it would essentially be a wildcard race with the Playoffs starting the final week and we know almost anyone can win here. When it comes to fantasy, qualifying is going to paint the picture as place differential points are King this week. There have been 10 or more drivers to pick up double-digit place differential in five straight races here and five or more drivers to start outside the Top 20 and finish Top 10 in two straight and four of the last five. The other element of superspeedway racing is working with teammates and/or like manufacturers in the draft leading to a stacking lineup construction. Grab your copy today and edge out the competition. 3M Open This week the PGA Tour travels to Blaine, Minnesota for the 3M Open, a new event on Tour. It will be played at TPC Twin Cities which had hosted a PGA Champions Tour event(3M Championship) from 2001 until last season. It regularly produced low scores and while it has been lengthened around 250-300 yards, I still think we see a birdie fest this week. The field is led by World #1 Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau(#8) joins him as the only other player inside the Top 10 World Golf Rankings. Overall, there are just nine of the Top 50 and 28 of the Top 100 players teeing it up this week. TPC Twin Cities plays as a Par 72 for it's members but will play as a Par 71 this week and comes in at over 7,400 yards. While water comes into play on 15 of the 18 holes, the fairways are very generous and should produce a higher than average driving accuracy. When breaking down Ball Striking, which I feel is the most important every week, I will be weighing Strokes Gained: Approach quite a bit more than Off the Tee. The greens at TPC Twin Cities are larger than average(average 6,500 sq ft) so I will also be weighing Proximity to the Hole. My overall thought on the event is that we have a good weather forecast on a course that should produce a winning score around -18 to -22. I will be focusing a lot of my time on players form, especially in the key stats over the last 12 and 24 round sample sizes(via Fantasy National). Let's jump into the picks.
