Major season will come to an end after this week as the best players in the world head to Royal St. George's Golf Club in Sandwich, England for the 149th OPEN Championship. With the event being canceled in 2020, it feels like ages since Shane Lowry hoisted the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush and I am pretty sure he has taken advantage of the extra year as defending champion. The OPEN Championship returns to Royal St. Georges Golf Club this week for the first time since 2011 when Darren Clarke beat Phil Michelson and Dustin Johnson by three strokes to hoist the hardware. It is a classic Links venue that will be heavily impacted by the wind which is clear when looking at the weekly forecast. On top of the weather, the course can also play very unpredictable due to the undulation throughout. Off the tee, golfers will see slightly wider fairways than in 2011 but won't provide much comfort as the rough/fescue is very tall and challenging and will force plenty of players to simply chip out and try and save par or even bogey. It doesn't get any easier on approach as the greens are undulated and protected by deep and very challenging bunkering that saw just a 34% save rate back in 2011. In my stats model, I am centering everything around Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, both long-term and short-term. Off the tee, I am focusing on Fairways Gained(via FNGC) as the course is not long and missing fairways will most definitely eliminate birdie and even put par in question. On approach, I am looking at from a broad perspective with overall Strokes Gained: Approach and also look at some Fairway Proximity to combine with those who are hitting lots of fairways. Next up, I am predicting around a 55-60% GIR field average...

The Cubs are basically a league-average team in terms of wOBA, but with the 4th highest K rate in the Majors they represent a lot of DFS upside for a starting pitcher. Peralta, meanwhile, has been outrageously good this season, with his electric stuff seamlessly translating from the bullpen to the starting rotation. With a 12.67 K/9, the sky is the limit for him here. Zack Greinke FD 8700 DK 9800 Opponent - BAL (Thomas Eshelman) Park - BAL FD - 38.37 DK - 20.12 If you want a steady option with nearly guaranteed win upside, consider Zack Greinke. The Ks are down this season, but Greinke is a -286 favorite against the Orioles, who are just .010 wOBA points away from dead last in the Majors. Greinke doesn't have huge upside, but you're picking him for his floor here. If you can afford to pay up for two pitchers, I strongly prefer Trevor Bauer over Lucas Giolito today. Catcher/First Base José Abreu FD 3500 DK 5100 Opponent - MIN (Kenta Maeda) Park - MIN FD - 11.13 DK - 8.42 It's been a rather slow start to the season for Abreu, but the peripherals seem to support him heading back on track soon. He's running .043 BABIP points below his career levels in spite of no discernable change in his hard-hit percentage, and our model believes that should correct by the end of the season. As for Maeda, it looks for all the world like last season was an aberration, as he's drifted back into being a league-average pitcher with a proclivity to give up the long ball. I like Abreu a lot on a day where first base is shallower than usual. Luke Voit FD - 1B 2600 DK - Opponent - LAA (Dylan Bundy) Park - NYY FD - 12.56 DK - 10.15 Voit has been seeing more reps in the deadly Yankees lineup, but the price has yet to catch up. Voit hasn't been able to produce at the stratospheric levels we've seen in the past, but this is still plenty of bat if he's batting sixth or better against Dylan Bundy today. Vegas loves the Yankees thanks to Bundy's inability...

Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – Travelers Championship

The Course TPC River Highlands Par 70 - 6,841 Yards Greens - Bent/Poa Previous Five Winners 2020 - Dustin Johnson(-19) 2019 - Chez Reavie(-17) 2018 - Bubba Watson(-17) 2017 - Jordan Spieth(-12) 2016 - Russell Knox(-14) After another incredible Major Championship that went right down to the wire, it was Jon Rahm taking home the hardware for his first Major win. Outside of Tiger who is just on his own level in terms of Torrey Pines, there is not another golfer with closer ties to the venue. Not only did Rahm pick up his first career win here back in 2015, but he also proposed to his wife here and now won a U.S. Open here. Adding to it is the karma surrounding Rahm after holding a six-stroke lead after round 3 at the Memorial but having to WD due to a Covid test. All in all, it was a spectacular week and we now move on and prepare for the upcoming and final major of the season, the OPEN Championship. Before we get ahead of ourselves, the PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship this week. Considering the event is following a major, we have a fairly strong field including five of the Top 10(DJ, Bryson, Cantlay, Brooks, Reed) and 24 of the Top 50 players in the world teeing it up this week. This week will most definitely be playing differently than the U.S. Open that played very tough with a winning score of -6 while the Travelers Championship winner has averaged -16 over the last five years. It shows in the stats as TPC River Highlands has seen an average driving accuracy close to 70% and the average GIR rate over 70% when looking at the last five years. When breaking down ball striking, which is always at the top of...

START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW!   Pitchers Yu Darvish FD - P 10000 DK - SP 10200 Opponent - LAD (Julio Urías) Park - SD FD - 37.88 DK - 20.96 It's a little odd to invest this much in a pitcher that's just a -116 favorite, but a tiny slate like this is going to bring us out of our comfort zone. Darvish's reputation is unimpeachable at this point. He's not quite the same pitcher he was in last year's abbreviated season, but honestly he had room to regress and still be dominant. He's still topping double-digit Ks/9 with excellent control, and going deep into games. The only issue here is the match-up, with the Dodgers ranking 2nd best in the Majors in wOBA. Still, if you want an ace today, Darvish is your guy. Tyler Mahle FD - P 8800 DK - SP 9800 Opponent - MIN (J.A. Happ) Park - MIN FD - 32.85 DK - 17.21 While no one would call Mahle a true-blue ace, he certainly has the upside of one. He's hit 45+ FanDuel points in each of his last three starts, including a 61 point outing in which he struck out 12 Brewers. Minnesota is no great match-up either, but they are "just" a top 10 offense, and if you want a little savings Mahle isn't an outrageous pivot from Darvish (or more realistically a pitcher 2 on DK). The rest: Kyle Gibson will get some attention today, but he hasn't been nearly as dominant as his ERA suggests. Urias is basically a poor man's Darvish at the same price, so I don't see myself playing him on FD (though you can make a case for playing both on DK). Catcher/First Base Willson Contreras FD - C 2600 DK - C 4100 Opponent - CLE (Aaron Civale) Park - CHC FD - 12.83 DK - 9.64 Anthony Rizzo FD - 1B 3000 DK - 1B 5000 Opponent - CLE (Aaron Civale) Park - CHC FD - 13.64 DK - 10.21 There's a theme running through today that will avail itself to you shortly, but I'll just give it away now: we're stacking this Cubs/Indians game. With a 10.5 run total, this game's number is a full run above every other game on the slate. And with good reason! These are two good offenses, and two sub-par pitchers. We'll start with Civale, who is in the Majors solely due to...

START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW!   Pitchers Joe Musgrove FD - P 8500 DK - SP 8900 Opponent - CIN (Wade Miley) Park - SD FD - 38.73 DK - 21.21 Musgrove looks fantastic on a slate where a lot of the other big name pitchers have question marks. His team is a -163 favorite in a game with just a 7 run total against the Cincinnati Reds. He's maintained a 12 K/9 after last year's breakout season, and he's posting a career best 1.75 BB/9. If there's one fly in the ointment it's relatively tough match-up with the Reds, but if Vegas isn't scared then I'm not either. Jose Urquidy FD - P 7500 DK - SP 7900 Opponent - CHW (Dylan Cease) Park - HOU FD - 32.66 DK - 16.99 Urquidy is not a conventional cash game play, but he does have a lot going for him here. His excellent 1.6 BB/9 walkrate helps him go deep into games, finishing 7 innings in three of his last six starts. His lack of big time strikeout stuff can get him chased on occasion, though, so there is certainly blowup potential. The White Sox are a tough match-up, but they are considerably better against left handed pitching, and I'm considering rolling the dice with Urquidy in my pitcher 2 slot on DraftKings. Also considered: Stroman and Ohtani. I don't trust Stroman's recent strikeout surge, though, and Ohtani hasn't been going super deep into games when coming off the mound. I prefer the above options as a result. Catcher/First Base Vladimir Guerrero Jr. FD - 1B 4400 DK - 1B 5900 Opponent - NYY (Michael King) Park - TOR FD - 12.84 DK - 9.74 It's amazing how young players can go from struggling to superstar in such a short period of time. I can't remember an explosion like this since Mike Trout went from zero to hero in a single year, but Guerrero seems to be up to the task. He's lapping the field in WAR, leads the league in homers, OBP, and SLG, and all of this at age 22. The bad news is that he'll be facing Michael King today. Just kidding. King is a journeyman type that projects as a long reliever, and Vlad should eat him for breakfast. Gary Sánchez FD - C 3000 DK - C 4800 Opponent - TOR (Undecided) Park - TOR FD - 11.16 DK - 9.12...

Major championship season continues as the PGA Tour heads to Torrey Pines South for the 121st United States Open Championship. Torrey Pines is one of two regular venues(Pebble Beach GL the other) on the PGA Tour schedule that falls in the U.S. Open rotation so the golfers are quite familiar with it, especially Patrick Reed who won the 2021 event. As it always is, the field is absolutely loaded with each of the Top 50 and 77 of the Top 100 players in the world including defending champion Bryson DeChambeau who took home the hardware at Winged Foot back in September. Don't expect similar scores to what we see annually at the Farmers Insurance Open as the USGA will surely have their special touches on the course. This starts with the rough that is reportedly anywhere between 3-5 inches and targeted to be thicker and more challenging around the greens. Speaking of those greens, they are some of the smallest on Tour and made up of Poa grass which is challenging in itself with all the bumps. To win the U.S. Open, or any major for that matter, it is going to take a complete game to get it done this week but for DFS we can start breaking down the key stats a little more. Off the tee, I am looking for more distance than accuracy but not discounting the accuracy at all with very thick rough. Beaking down SG: approach, I am looking at a combination of rough proximity and long iron proximity distances(175-200 and 200+ yards). With a combination of length, small greens, and thick rough, I am projecting the GIR % to be well below average which means a ton of scrambling so strokes gained: around the green is very high in my model, as well. Finally, I will be looking at golfers...
