Quarterbacks There isn’t much in the way of injury news on the quarterback front. Marcus Mariota is out for the Raiders which is only notable because he came in an played a RPO package in the first game. But that was one snap he was injured. Otherwise, the situations across the league remain relatively similar. Running Backs Josh Jacobs FD 6500 DK 6000 Opponent PITProj Points FD - 8.79 DK - 9.7 Friday will determine a lot about Jacobs’ availability for Sunday. He hasn’t practiced all week after being questionable leading into last Monday’s game. That was for an illness and this is for a myriad of other injuries so we will have to see. He and Kenyan Drake basically split snaps in Week 1 (Jacobs - 45, Drake - 41) and would do so again if both were active. But if Jacobs sat we would have to give Drake a significant boost. With Jalen Richard on IR it would be Peyton Barber likely spelling Drake in this scenario. This is a situation we will have to monitor. Update: Jacobs has been ruled out. Drake could see a lot of the workload here. Elijah Mitchell FD 5800 DK 5000 Opponent PHIProj Points FD - 11.85 DK - 11.89 Elijah Mitchell isn’t injured, but Raheem Mostert is with the latter having been lost for the season. The latter made it all of two carries before leaving the Week 1 game and then having season-ending knee surgery this week. What a blow. Mitchell picked up 19 carries and 69% of the offensive snaps with Mostert out though remember that Trey Sermon has been inactive going into the game. The 49ers have shown a willingness to RBBC this bad boy so I am only lukewarm on Mitchell going into this game. The 49ers also picked up Trenton Cannon during the week. Zack Moss FD 5200 DK 4500 Opponent MIAProj Points FD - 0 DK - 0 Zack Moss was a surprise inactive for Week 1, leaving the backfield duties to Devin Singletary and Matt Breida. Singletary took 75% of the team’s offensive snaps with a 19% usage rate (carries + targets). He should be in line for something similar with Moss looking likely to sit this one again. Miami isn’t a great matchup because of the pace, but the Bills still have a...

Quarterbacks Carson Wentz FD 6500 DK 5600 Opponent SEA Proj Points FD - 16.33 DK - 17 This has been known, but it is worth clarifying before starting the season. Wentz will be under center for the Colts in his first regular-season snaps for the new team. After dealing with off-season injuries and some Covid concerns as well, he is a full-go for Week 1. That is a boost to the pass catchers (who we will get to in a second). Against the Seahawks, I like Wentz as a flyer play here especially if he can return to any semblance of the better version of himself. Remember, this was a guy in 2018 who had a 69% completion percentage and over 3,000 passing yards in just 11 games. Running Backs Austin Ekeler FD 6900 DK 7000 Opponent WAS Proj Points FD - 14.74 DK - 17.06 This is one of the biggest situations to monitor heading into Sunday. He didn’t practice on Thursday and though there is some “optimism” that he is cleared by Sunday he might not be 100%. It is an inauspicious start for a guy who was one of the very best per-touch fantasy running backs when healthy. But the “when healthy” piece has been the operative wording we’ve had to incorporate with Ekeler. Projected to be a three-down fantasy stud, that is in jeopardy here. If he were to sit we would probably see some kind of committee between Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley. Gus Edwards FD 6500 DK 5600 Opponent LV Proj Points FD - 0 DK - 0 With torn ACL Gus Edwards capped off one of the unluckiest team injury runs in recent memory for the Baltimore Ravens. In the span of just a few weeks, the team lost J.K. Dobbins, Justice Hill, and now Edwards for the entire season. It’s left their running back situation in major flux. Heading into Week 1 the Ravens' backfield is pretty much a mess. For a team that almost wants to solely run the ball, they now have all kinds of question marks. Ty'Son Williams actually got reps in the preseason so he is a likely candidate to start. But Baltimore also just signed Latavius Murray and added Le’Veon Bell to the practice squad. It likely means something of a committee once again with Lamar...
Daily Fantasy Football Game by Game Breakdowns Sunday’s FanDuel and DraftKings Slates
Daily Fantasy Football Game by Game Breakdowns Sunday's FanDuel and DraftKings Slates After a wild wildcard round, the NFL barrels forward into the divisional round this week. The competition picks up this week with the return of the new #1 seeds, but it doesn't necessarily mean we're only in for close games. Sunday's slate brings us the two biggest totals of the weekend, so we should have enough interesting plays to make a solid squad. Let's dive in. Plus, check out our picks for Saturday's Divisional Round Plays for FanDuel and DraftKings. Want access to the projections that power these picks? Cleveland Browns (+10) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-10) Our Sunday slate kicks off with the game with the largest spread on the slate, with the defending Superbowl Champs taking on the "surprise team" of round one. The Browns rode good play and good fortune past the big-brother Steelers, and the football world is left wondering if last week was their Superbowl, or if they'll get up to take down the Chiefs this week. The Chiefs, meanwhile, haven't played a meaningful game in weeks, and have one significant piece of injury news we'll need to keep an eye on. Regardless, Vegas sees this as a game with a huge total, so there should be plenty of fantasy production to go around. Let's have a look. Cleveland Browns On a two-game slate, we're not going to be able to fully ignore any team. While we aren't often excited to run guys as a ten-point under-dog, the Browns have shown enough in the passing game that I think we can take a stab here. We will largely be ignoring Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt for cash games, though it's worth pointing out that there are game-scripts where the Browns get out ahead early and Chubb winds up being a solid big tournament option. Let's have a look at our cash options. Jarvis Landry FD 6900 DK 5600 Opponent KC Proj Points FD - 13.25 DK - 16.22 Rashard Higgins FD 5300 DK 4100 Opponent KC Proj Points FD - 11.5 DK - 13.81 Landry and Higgins exemplify the types of questions we have to ask ourselves every single week in DFS. On one hand, we have Landry, whose targets and production have been more consistent throughout the year. He's coming off a great game against the Steelers and has topped 13.9 FanDuel points in 5 of his last...

Daily Fantasy Football Game by Game Breakdowns Sunday's FanDuel and DraftKings Slates The NFL managed to make it through all 256 games of the regular season, and now we get to sit and pray that Covid doesn't ruin the playoffs. With the Saints apparently narrowly avoiding losing their running backs to the plague, it looks like we might get a normal week of football after all. Let's go game by game and see where we can find a little DFS value. Plus, check out our picks for Saturday's Divisional Round Plays for FanDuel and DraftKings. Tennessee Titans (3.5) vs. Baltimore Ravens (-3.5) Things kick off on Sunday with a rematch of one of the best games of the regular season, a game that saw the Titans win on a 29-yard touchdown run from Derrick Henry in overtime. Blessedly, this was a week where both teams were mostly healthy, and there's a lot we can learn from how each team game-planned against the other. Let's take a look at the DFS relevant plays on both sides. Tennessee Titans Derrick Henry FD 10200 DK 9200 Opponent BAL Proj Points FD - 22.44 DK - 23.48 One thing that was clear when these two teams met in November was that the Titans were prepared to live and die with Derrick Henry. In spite of falling behind by 11 points in the second quarter, Henry touched the ball 30 times for 132 yards. Baltimore was tough against the run this season, but the playoffs are a time where we are going to have to recalibrate our expectations about match-ups. We're looking at short slates with good teams, and you just aren't going to get to run Henry against teams like the Texans. Now price might wind up making Henry miss the cut, but don't fret this spot based on match-up or opportunity. Ryan Tannehill FD 8200 DK 6600 Opponent BAL Proj Points FD - 18.77 DK - 19.45 Our system recommends Lamar Jackson as the top overall cash game play on both sites, but Tannehill is the next man up. While Jackson is obviously the superior DFS QB, Tannehill brings an interesting skill set to the table in his own right. The Titans have been using Tannehill's rushing ability in the red zone far more often toward the end of the season, with RT going for 5 rushing touchdowns in the Titans'...

There are a lot of interesting questions for cash games this week, starting at quarterback. Can we start Jalen Hurts after two good weeks, or should we be concerned about the low completion percentage? Would Deshaun Watson just be a safer play at similar prices? Is it insane to go super-cheap at QB on DK and play Trubisky? The guys weigh the pros and cons of each. Running back features two easy plays in David Montgomery and Le'Veon Bell, but after that, there are a number of situations to keep an eye on. You've got the potential absence of Ezekiel Elliott, a bizarre QB situation in WAS (which impacts JD McKissic), and more. You'll want to tune in tomorrow for an in-depth look at the position on a game by game basis. Wide receiver has good plays at every price point, as usual, with headliners like Calvin Ridley and Tyreek Hill, mid-range options like Brandin Cooks and Jarvis Landry, and even some punt plays lurking in LA if Keenan Allen sits. Tight end requires us to think about whether Travis Kelce has become too expensive, or if we can tolerate a mid-range option like Logan Thomas, Hunter Henry, or Noah Fant. All in all it's another interesting week. Enjoy! Love the DFSR podcast? Go ahead and subscribe and listen wherever you get your daily podcasts. Quarterback Drew Brees FD 7500 DK 5900 Opponent KC Proj Points FD - 20.06 DK - 20.69 The Saints announced that Brees would be back under center for Sunday's tilt with the Chiefs, and there are a number of DFS implications. Both the receivers and Alvin Kamara rate to be much better with Brees than they were with Hill. Kamara in particular should return from target purgatory to his lofty levels of the early season, which should make him something like a must-play in cash games this week. In a back and forth affair, it's not unreasonable to run multiple Saints in cash games this week. We'll get to which receivers when we discuss Michael Thomas. Matthew Stafford FD 7300 DK 5800 Opponent TEN Proj Points FD - 0.5 DK - 0.52 Stafford could theoretically play against Tennessee this week, but it's not looking great. He missed practice all week before finally practicing in a limited fashion on Friday. Either way, his extremely questionable status and potential absence make the already tenuous Detroit passing game a stay-away for me. If Stafford does suit up I could consider either Jones Jr. or Hockenson, but likely only for big tournaments. Alex Smith FD 6500 DK 5000 Opponent SEA Proj Points FD - 0 DK - 0 Alex Smith has been ruled out for this weekend's game, leaving the quarterbacking duties on Dwayne Haskins. While Smith wasn't an especially relevant DFS option, his absence this week certainly has ramifications for DFS. JD McKissic far riskier, for instance, since he was a favorite check down option of Smith. Terry McLaurin probably gets a bump since Haskins is more suited to hit McLaurin on the routes he really wants to run. Running Back Chris Carson FD 7600 DK 6800 Opponent WAS Proj Points FD - 13.83 DK - 14.94 Carson heads into this week without an injury designation, and he is sizing up to be a pretty interesting running back option this week. While his workload has been aggressively managed over the last four weeks, it looked like he was going to break out for greater usage last week before the game got out of hand. Carson was on the field for 71% of snaps in the first half, but with the game out of hand, got a lot of rest in the second half. This should be...
