Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 84 – 2/27/16
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 84 – 2/27/16 Editor's Note: Welcome MMA contributor Shaun Ihasz. Give him a follow on Twitter @ShaunEyeHas We go across the pond to London, England for UFC Fight Night 84 and I can’t wait for this main event – Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping. We’re on a bit of a roll lately so let’s try and churn out some more winners. On a side note, the one thing we were wrong about last week was projecting a boring card. UFC Fight Night 83 was filled with brutal, highlight reel finishes and leaves UFC Fight Night 84 with a lot to live up to. Vegas Favorites ($10,500+) Anderson Silva (10,800) Full disclosure – I’m not an Anderson Silva fan. But Fantasy MMA is about your head, not your heart. We know Spider’s last two losses in basically forever came against Chris Weidman. One of those was the result of a gruesome broken leg, an image that has left serious mental scars on me. But Silva bounced back with a five-round dismantling of Nick Diaz, which was overturned to a No Contest after both guys failed drug tests. Silva is probably the greatest MMA fighter of all-time (as of now, calm down Jon Jones fans) and I expect his defense and striking accuracy to be too much for Bisping. Rustam Khabilov ($10,700) The stats are deceiving in this fight as Khabilov has lost two straight, but those came against competition much tougher than Norman Parke. Kkabilov is a versatile fighter who can pick up a KO or submission and it’s hard to imagine Parke sending him to a third straight loss. Parke is 1-2 in his last three contests and seems to stumble every time he takes a step up in class. I’m staying with that trend and leaning on Khabilov. Mid-Range Targets ($9,500-$10,400) Makwan Amirkhani ($10,200) Two UFC fights with two first round finishes vaults “Mr. Finland” to the top of my play list this week. In his first UFC fight, Amirkhani delivered a flying knee that earned him a KO just eight seconds into the fight. Next time out it took him all of 1:41 to choke out Masio Fullen. Amirkhani takes on Mike Wilkinson, who scored a first round KO in his last outing against Niklas Backstrom, the recipient of a UFC pink slip in January of last year. But with that said, the red hot Finn is all over my lineups and offers a great chance for a stoppage bonus at his salary. Jarjis Danho ($9,800) The “Man Mountain” has to cut weight to make the 265 lbs limit at heavyweight. Read that again. I tend to stay away...
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 83 – 2/20/16
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 83 - 2/20/16 Editor's Note: Welcome MMA contributor Shaun Ihasz. Give him a follow on Twitter @ShaunEyeHas We’re back after a huge 5-1 outing two weeks ago, including four wins by stoppage. Now we are staring at the barrel of three straight weeks of Fantasy MMA. What could be better!? Let the excitement fade because the start of this stretch could be a complete snooze fest. UFC Fight Night 83 is tricky up and down the lineup with something, in terms of fantasy, that bothers me about most of the favorites. With that said, I changed the format of the picks this week…let’s try and duplicate our last showing and make some more money. Playing other daily fantasy sports like NBA or NHL. Click here to sign up Vegas Favorites Chris Camozzi ($10,500) Tons of experience in this one as Camozzi and Joe Riggs have combined for 89 professional MMA fights. Camozzi’s 22 wins are 19 less than Riggs, but he’s simply the better fighter. Camozzi is a UFC veteran, 3-1 in his last four fights with two opening round stoppages. Riggs has bounced around the other promotions throughout his career and is lucky to still be in the UFC. He’s 1-2 since joining the promotion in December of 2014 but that win came via DQ thanks to an illegal upkick. Camozzi should dispatch Riggs and send him out of the UFC - roster him in all formats. Cody Garbrandt ($11,000) I have a huge amount of love for Cody “No Love” Garbrandt, the undefeated 24-year old is 7-0 with six career finishes. Garbrandt is 2-0 in the UFC and this could be the fight where he gets his first early stoppage in the big time. The young bantamweight draws UFC newbie and BJJ specialist Augusto Mendes. Menden can be dangerous and holds a 5-0 record with four submission victories. I don’t think he’ll have that success with Garbrandt and “No Love” gives you a great chance at the 100 point first-round win bonus. Marion Reneau ($10,300) Reneau had a five fight win streak snapped in her last outing, but that came against the newly crowned queen of MMA, Holly Holm. “The Bruiser” has four wins by stoppage in her last six fights and is 2-1 in her UFC career. Her experience should come in handy in this fight and the 38 year old needs to make something happen now if she ever hopes to get into the title picture. This pick...
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC on Fox 18 – 1/30/2016
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC on Fox 18 - 1/30/2016 Editor's Note: Welcome MMA contributor Shaun Ihasz. Give him a follow on Twitter @ShaunEyeHas The card for UFC on FOX 18 at the Prudential Center is not filled with flashy names or a title bout (the main event is expected to produce a #1 contender), so we'll have to dig a little deeper. Usually Fantasy MMA is all about finding the underdogs who will put up points along with the one or two favorites you expect to take care of business. But on this card, there is a surplus of value plays and a real struggle to find your dominant fighter. Playing other daily fantasy sports like NBA or NHL. Go ahead and get access to the exclusive projection system that produces all of our picks. Sign up now and get our lineup construction tool for FanDuel & DraftKings. Click here to sign up I know, I know this card has the incredibly talented and future face of the UFC in 19-year old Sage Northcutt. He was my top pick heading into the week until he got a new, more experienced, opponent on eight days notice AND stopped his weight cut as his bout will now be at welterweight rather than lightweight. Northcutt will probably win but an $11,000 price tag is just too high for someone I'm not all-in with. I won't consider using him, hopefully I don't regret that. Oh...and for those clamoring for an Anthony "Rumble" Johnson pick. I can't do it. Ryan Bader is too good and (trust me) too underrated. I expect Rumble to be heavily owned and for a lot of people to pay dearly with his $10,900 salary. Vegas Favorites ($10,500+) Randy Brown ($10,500) There's a reason this kid is a big-time favorite in his UFC debut: six fights, six finishes, and no one has gotten to the third round with him. He matches up with Matt Dwyer, 1-2 in the UFC and aside from William Macario, has beat a bunch of guys who bag groceries in their spare time. This is the opening bout of the event and Brown is also a relative unknown...for now. No big wins on his resume either, but he has a reputation as an aggressive fighter and it's hard to argue with all those finishes. Brown is probably better suited for GPP play but I'll have him in a few cash game lineups as well. Tarec Saffiedine ($10,600) I told you this card was light on favorites. Saffiedine is vanilla as vanilla gets. "The Sponge" has five wins in his last six fights, all by decision. This is a stronger play if you think the...
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin On Saturday, October 24th, there will be some MMA action over in Ireland as UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin is set to go off. The big news right now is that Joseph Duffy has pulled out of the main event against Dustin Poirier and that the fight has been cancelled, but that doesn’t mean that there will not be other fights this date. Here, we’re going to take a look at some of the most important fights to consider for your daily fantasy roster. If you haven’t drafted one yet, or you just want to get a second opinion, this guide should prove to be a valuable resource as we break down the fights for you. Nicolas Dalby v. Darren Till This fight has a bit of an oddity associated with it when you start looking at DraftKings salary in comparison to fantasy point averages. Dalby it the more expensive player at $10,100, but he has only averaged 58.5 fantasy points. Till is priced at only $9,300, but is averaging 83.5 points. This indicates that Dalby is the favorite for this fight, but that Till has been more lucrative as a fantasy fighter in the past. If Dalby is the favorite for this fight, this looks like it will not be Till that scores the most points, but this fight is a bit too close on paper to tell for certain. When a fight is that close on paper, the cheaper fighter is almost always the correct choice, so Till is a very attractive choice here. Louis Smolka v. Paddy Holohan Smolka, “Da Last Samurai,” is the favorite for this fight, but only barely. He’s priced at $9,800, compared to Holohan’s $9,600. Both fighters have won three of their last four fights, and both are pretty close in expected fantasy point value. Smolka ranks in at 63.3 while Holohan is at 59.8. Because Smolka is a favorite at less than $10,000, he’s a strong pick, but because these two fighters are so close in projected talent, either could be a good choice if your own analysis sways you toward Holohan. It’s for this reason that the Smolka-Holohan fight looks like it will be the most exciting matchup of the night now that the Duffy-Poirier fight is off the list of events. Stevie Ray v. Mickael Lebout Ray is a huge favorite for this fight, and his steep price tag is a reflection of this. Ray is priced at $11,000 right now, but has averaged 101.5 fantasy points per fight. He’s 18-5, and won his last two fights in either the first or second round by KO/TKO. He’s...
Daily Fantasy MMA Picks for UFC 192 – 10/3/15
Daily Fantasy UFC Picks for UFC 192 - 10/3/15 Houston, Texas, will play host to UFC 192 this weekend. There are some big fights scheduled for Saturday, and a lot of smaller ones, too. If you are a fantasy MMA fan, there are some good opportunities to take advantage of when you are drafting your daily fantasy MMA rosters. Here, we will look at a few of the main fights that you should be considering for your roster, and let you know what you should be looking at before you make any sort of decision. Here is our daily fantasy analysis of three of the top fights on the card, plus your best value pick of the night. Daniel Cormier v. Alexander Gustafsson This is the headline fight of the night for sure, but the favorite isn’t quite as clear as it might seem. Daniel Cormier seems to be the consensus, and DraftKings agrees with this. They’ve priced him at $11,000, and Gustafsson is just $8,400. The main reason for this is that Gustafsson lost his most recent fight in the first round by KO/TKO. That was back in January against Anthony Johnson. A few months later, in May, Cormier also fought Johnson, but won in a third round submission. Cormier definitely has the edge here because of this, but Cormier isn’t scoring as many fantasy points each fight as Gustafsson is. However, even if this is a lower scoring match, Cormier is the favorite and going with Gustafsson isn’t the right choice even if he has more points per match historically. Whether or not Cormier will approach his average of 71.5 points per match will remain to be seen, but he’s the favorite for a reason here. Ruslan Magomedov v. Shawn Jordan These types of fights are great on your roster because both fighters are below the $10,000 average that DraftKings uses as the cutoff for a favorite. Because both are below this number, the fighters are very close in talent and there’s no clear favorite, but this doesn’t need to work against you. The opportunity is worthwhile because even if you’re wrong in who you think will win, you are still getting a good value from the fighter. Jordan is the fighter with the highest fantasy point average per past fight at 67.4 according to certain fantasy sites. Compare this to Magomedov’s 55.0 and Jordan is the clear choice. Jordan is slightly cheaper at $9,500, but even if Magomedov is slightly favored at $9,900, Jordan is still the better choice as the dollar values are close enough that the extra point potential far outweighs the $400 difference. Julianna Pena v. Jessica Eye Women’s MMA is a popular...
Big Fight on the UFC Schedule
The upcoming UFC Fight Night is not one of the main UFC events, but it still promises excitement. There are a few good fights scheduled for the night, and of course, the daily fantasy sports action that it creates will be a lot of fun, too. Having a good approach to drafting your roster is a must, so we have broken down a few of the bigger fights for you. We’ve also included some things to think about as you create your rosters. Without further delay, here are our top 3 daily fantasy MMA picks for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night. Josh Barnett v. Roy Nelson This might be the biggest fight of the night, but underdog Nelson has a very real chance of winning this one. The last time Barnett fought in a UFC match was back in 2013, and he lost. Nelson fought just a few months ago and also lost, but has much more recent experience than his competition. Barnett is priced at $10,800 on DraftKings, while Nelson is a steal at only $8,600. The Vegas odds have Barnett as the overwhelming favorite, too, which does tend to detract from his actual chances of winning, but in this case, going with Nelson seems like the mathematically correct choice. If you do believe that Barnett is the clear victor here, though, your best choice is to just not include this fight on your roster. Gegard Mousasi v. Uriah Hall This is another fight where there is an overwhelming favorite. Mousasi is valued at $11,300 while Hall is just $8,100. In this case, the favorite is the better choice. While you won’t be getting much value out of Mousasi at such a huge price, he is a much stronger fighter. His fight record is historically stronger, and he has more than double the recorded fights that Hall has. The only downside to Mousasi is that he’s been scoring fewer fantasy points per fight lately. This is mostly because of Hall’s last fight, where he won by KO/TKO in the first round. This type of win always brings in big points, and it has boosted Hall’s points in a big way. Mousasi is a more experienced fighter by far, and that makes him much more attractive. He has little fantasy value here, but that’s okay because of the big points he will bring in. Shinsho Anzai v. Roger Zapata This is one of the small card fights, but you need to include it on your roster because both fighters are below $10,000. Even if you are wrong in who you think will win, this is a good value play. They are both at $9,700, which indicates that DraftKings really isn’t...
