RBC Heritage Harbour Town Golf Links - Hilton Head, South Carolina Par 71, 7,101 Yards Well the Masters is now over and Jordan Spieth is now #2 in the world. Now comes the test of catching Rory. As for the Masters test, Spieth looked like he cheated off someone else's sheet(Tiger). He led the tournament wire to wire and if it wasn't for a missed putt on the 18th Sunday he would have broke the Masters scoring record. I don't remember such a dominating Masters performance since Woods himself. Ok, ok Spieth is amazing, time to move on. Didn't win the Million like I had planned this weekend but cashed 4/7 of my lineups. Time to get ready for the US Open in June and the next Millionaire Maker. I will be playing a lot more satellites each weekend leading up to the tournament to get more tickets at a cheaper cost. I will be aiming for about 20-40 tickets into the next Millionaire Maker this time and will get started this weekend at the RBC Heritage. The players leave Augusta and head to South Carolina and Harbour Town Golf Links for the RBC Heritage. The tournament has been played here since 1969. The course was designed by Pete Dye with help from Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. The course requires an accurate drive and approach as the fairways are narrow and the greens are small. With the small greens and lower than average GIR, I will also be targeting scrambling as a key stat. A look at the key stats I am targeting this week: Strokes Gained:Tee to Green Strokes Gained:Putting Driving Accuracy Greens in Regulation Scrambling Tier 1 Targets (DK Price $9,500-Max) Well, I actually thought Spieth would be a little more expensive this week. He is still $1,500 more than the next guy so I will be avoiding him for the most part. I just can't see how he will be able to concentrate on this tournament after winning the Masters, especially with all the media obligations and everyone wanting a piece of him. I will pivot off in Tier 1 to the following guys. Zach Johnson - $10,900 (Vegas Odds – 17/1) Johnson is the 3rd most expensive golfer this week. He comes into this week after a T9 at Augusta, T20 at Valero, and a T9 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has done fairly well here...
Draftkings Daily Fantasy PGA Picks – Shell Houston Open
PGA Daily Fantasy Picks Shell Houston Open DFSR is proud to bring you our newest contributor Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings. Shell Houston Open Golf Club of Houston - Humble, Texas Par 72, 7,441 Yards Well, here we are one week closer to the Masters and I don't know about you but I am getting very excited. The first ever Daily Fantasy Golf Millionaire Maker over at Draftkings only boosts the level of excitement for me. A chance to win a million bucks for a $20 entry? Ummm, yes please! If you haven't reserved your seat yet be sure to get into some satellites this week for as low as $.25 to win a ticket. You can even enter satellites in other sports to try and win your way in. Oh, and if you are looking for some analysis on a few golfers to help you get your way to the million be sure to check out my article next week where I will highlight a few extra golfers to target for the Masters. Before we get ahead of ourselves with all the Masters talk we have to get through this weekend and the Shell Houston Open. The players travel to Humble, Texas this week for the Shell Houston Open, the last tournament before the Masters. This tournament hosts 15 of the top 30 golfers in the world. The course, a Rees Jones design, has been used in the Houston Open since 2006 and proves to be a great warm up to Masters as it closely replicates Augusta National. In researching past tournaments I am noticing that the best players in the field are consistently rising to the top of the leaderboard. Much like the Masters, the golfers with the best all around game have the greatest chance at winning this week. Most of the golfers with good track records here are long hitters who hit lots of greens. Not to say that accuracy guys don't do well here, as they have in the past, but I will be concentrating on the longer guys. To select the cream of crop this week I will be focusing on Course History(back to 2006), Current Form, and of course these statistical categories. Strokes Gained:Tee to Green Strokes Gained: Putting Greens in Regulation Driving Distance Scoring Average Tier 1 Targets (DK Price $9000-Max) Matt Kuchar - $11,400 (Vegas Odds – 19/1) So here we are with my first pick of the week. I had Henrik Stenson plugged into this slot until he withdrew today so...
Draftkings Daily Fantasy PGA Picks – Valero Texas Open
PGA Daily Fantasy Picks Valero Texas Open DFSR is proud to bring you our newest contributor Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings. If you are new to DraftKings PGA DFS be sure to click on the banner below. Valero Texas Open JW Marriott TPC San Antonio(Oaks Course) - San Antonio, Texas Par 72, 7435 Yards This week the players make a stop in San Antonio, Texas for the Valero Texas Open. The TPC San Antonio Oaks Course was designed by Greg Norman and player consultant Sergio Garcia. It has been host to the Texas Open since 2010 so I will only be looking at the most recent 5 years history. The course has tree lined fairways with plenty of sand, thick rough, and natural environments which can get a player into some unplayable lies(Check out Kevin Na's worst day ever!). Scrambling will be a key stat I will look at this week as wind can keep the players from being as accurate as usual off the tee. I am really going to target good ball strikers that excel in Accuracy and GIR more than distance. Here are all the stats I am looking at this week: Ball Striking Driving Accuracy Greens in Regulation Strokes Gained:Tee to Green Strokes Gained: Putting Scrambling Tier 1 Targets (DK Price $8500-Max) Jordan Spieth - $14,000 (Vegas Odds – 10/1) When deciding between the two favorites I flip-flopped between Spieth and Johnson as I like them both this week. It ultimately came down to course history and some key stats for Spieth. Dustin hasn't played this course since it has been here at TPC San Antonio and Spieth has played here 3 times(2014-10th, 2013-cut, 2012-T41). Current form for both top dogs is appealing but Spieth has only missed 1 cut this 2015 portion of the season(1st,17th,4th,7th,cut,7th). Four top 10's and a win so far. While his ball striking, driving accuracy and GIR aren't anything to write home about there are a few stats he is great in. SG: Tee to Green - 2014(38) 2015(11) SG:Putting - 2014(20) 2015(23) Scrambling - 2014(13) 2015(39) Matt Kuchar - $10,300 (Vegas Odds – 23/1) Don't you just want to pick him because all he does is smile and finish near the top every time out? He has't missed a cut this season (33rd,23rd,30th,2nd,3rd), and has a great course history here playing it three times (T4, T22, T13). Kuchar's stats were more consistent across as a whole in 2014 but in 2015 you will see his SG stats are still high as well as scrambling. A strong pick as he prepares for the Masters. Ball Striking - 2014(42) 2015(127)...
Draftkings Daily Fantasy PGA Picks – Arnold Palmer Invitational
PGA Daily Fantasy Picks Arnold Palmer Invitational DFSR is proud to bring you our newest contributor Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings. If you are new to DraftKings PGA DFS be sure to click on the banner below. Arnold Palmer Invitational Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Florida Par 72, 7381 Yards This week the PGA Tour heads to Orlando for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. The field is smaller but still a solid 120 golfers. Tiger, who is not in the field this week, has dominated this course winning 8 times in his career. Bay Hill is another typical Florida course with sand, water and wind to protect itself. Matt Every took down last year's tournament with a -13, narrowly beating Keegan Bradley's -12. A score of -13 has won the tournament 3 years in a row and before that Martin Laird won with a -8 in 2011. The fairways and greens are tough to hit so accuracy will be important off the tee. Distance does't seem to be at a premium so I will use Total Driving this week which is a combination of Distance and Accuracy. Also, when you look at the Par 5's the longest is a 525 yards so I will be using Par 5 performance as a key stat as well. With the rough usually pretty tough here and with the amount of bunkers in play I will also consider scrambling as well. Here is a list of the stats I am looking at this week. Total Driving Scrambling Strokes Gained:Tee to Green Par 5 Performance Tier 1 Targets (DK Price $9000-Max) Henrik Stenson - $12,500 (Vegas Odds – 12/1) First on my list this week comes before Draftkings pricing is released. I am picking Henrik no matter the price this week and I don't think he will be the most expensive(Rory, bubba). Henrik has made 6/6 cuts here in his career with some nice recent finishes(2014-T5, 2013-T8, 2012-T15). His current form is also where #3 in the world should be with a solo 4th at the Valspar and a T4 at WGC. He doesn't have enough rounds in 2015 to compile stats but his 2014 stats back up his World Rank and current form. Total Driving - 2014(2nd) Scrambling - 2014(171) SG:Tee to Green - 2014(11) Par 5 Perf - 2014(91) Hideki Matsyuma - $9,600 (Vegas Odds – 29/1) As a stats guy, Hideki Matsyuma always seems to fall under the radar for me. He is one of the most consistent golfers on Tour and it doesn't ever seem to matter what course he plays. He has only missed...
Draftkings Daily PGA Fantasy Picks – WGC Cadillac Championship
PGA Daily Fantasy Picks WGC Cadillic Championship DFSR is proud to bring you our newest contributor Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings. If you are new to DraftKings PGA DFS be sure to click on the banner below. WGC Cadillic Championship Trump National Doral Par 72, 7481 Yards This week’s tournament is a World Golf Championship event which features no cut. This event has been played at Trump National Doral since 2007 and up until last year’s tournament the average score was around -17. Following Tiger Woods win in 2013 the course was re designed by Gil Hanse, who is designing the course for the 2016 Olympics. The course was lengthened, especially the Par 5 1st hole, which was one of the tour’s easiest Par 5’s. The other big change made to the course was the addition of strategic water placement. The old design seen water come into play on 6 holes where as the new design sees water on 10 holes. The wind at Doral is no longer the only defense for the course. The course has four Par 5’s, Four Par 3’s, and 10 Par 4’s. The early weather forecast is showing some wind, but not like this past week. There is chance of rain for Saturday but for the most part it looks to be nice weather for the event. For this week’s picks I have split all the golfers into 3 tiers. I will provide analysis on three Tier 1 golfers, three Tier 2 Golfers and two Tier 3 golfers. I will be looking closely at current form this week as this will be a tough test for struggling players to turn it around. Due to the course re design I will be looking mostly at 2014 results for course history but will also look back to 2007 to see who plays well at Doral. The stats I am crunching this week are: Driving Distance Strokes Gained:Tee to Green Strokes Gained:Putting Greens in Regulation Par 4 Scoring Average Par 5 Scoring Average Tier 1 Targets (DK Price $8000-MAX) Bubba Watson - $12,400 (Vegas Odds – 15/1) Both years Bubba Watson won the Masters at Augusta he finished 2nd at this tournament. He also sandwiched a T18 in between in 2013. Bubba has started this year very strong with three top 15’s(Northern Trust-T14, Phoenix Open-T2, Tournament of Champions-10). When you combine his course history, current form and the following stats, Bubba becomes a top pick for this week and should have a chance to win. Driving Distance - 2014(1) 2015(14) SG:Tee to Green - 2014(7) 2015(9) SG:Putting - 2014(110) 2015(26) Greens in Reg - 2014(24)...
PGA Daily Fantasy Picks – Northern Trust Open
PGA Daily Fantasy Picks Northern Trust Open DFSR is proud to bring you our newest contributor Chris Durell. He'll be bringing weekly PGA picks, analysis and breakdowns to help you cash on DraftKings. If you are new to DraftKings PGA DFS be sure to click on the banner below. In looking back at last week, I've made some adjustments to my projections going forward that will incorporate some larger sample sizes. I have added a variety of additional stat rankings to my spreadsheet this week to help find the best players for this course. I am thrilled to see the multi-course events and pro-am events come to a close. Let the best part of the PGA season begin and like Bill Belichick would say “We are on to the Northern Trust.” Northern Trust Open Course Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades, California – 7349 Yards, Par 71 This week the PGA makes its last stop on the West Coast before heading to Florida. Riviera Country Club has been a part of the PGA tour since 1926 when it was the LA Open. The course is a challenging one with smaller greens and some longer par 5’s. When analyzing past leaderboards of this tournament you will notice long hitters who hit greens frequent the leaderboard. Those players who aren’t the longest drivers are good scramblers and putters. To select my targets for this week I will be looking at Recent Form, Course History, and these key stats: Driving Distance GIR Proximity to Hole Par 5 Performance Strokes Gained: Tee to Green Strokes Gained: Putting Tier 1 Targets (DK Price $9000-Max) Tier 1 is my favorite tier for this tournament. I like the bombers at the top in DJ and Bubba but both have been inconsistent here so I will reserve them for GPP’s. I also like Garcia and Schwartzel in their first trips to the USA this season. The two guys I decided to write about this week both have good track records here, bomb their drivers, hit greens and can putt. Jimmy Walker - $12300 (Vegas Odds – 17/1) I had other guys pegged as my top pick this week but in seeing Walker’s price drop over $5000 from the previous week has me slotting him as my #1. Jimmy is about as consistent as you can get on tour. He finished 21st last week at Pebble, which was his worst finish so far this year after posting 3 straight top 10’s to start the year. Jimmy has a nice course history here as well (20th-2014, 16th-2013, and a pair of 4th place finishes in 2012 and 2011). As for Walker’s stats, he is top 50...
