Jordan Spieth entered the final round with a three stroke lead but had the #1 player in the world, Dustin Johnson, breathing down his neck. Through five holes on the opening nine, Spieth even extended his lead to five strokes with two early birdies but gave three strokes back before making the turn while DJ picked up a Birdie on hole nine. The back nine is where things got interesting as DJ made Birdies on hole #10, #13, and #15 while Spieth made Birdies on holes #13 and #14. They entered the 18th hole tied at -13 and when DJ missed the fairway and was forced to layup, it appeared that Spieth would go on to win. Not so fast! Spieth made his par while DJ was left with a fast 17-foot putt to force a playoff. He ended up draining it and on the first playoff hole, DJ made no mistake off the tee this time bombing a drive 340 yards followed by an on-point wedge shot that gave him a 3-foot birdie for the win. Words don't do it justice so check out the highlights from the final round before we dig into this week's event. This week the top 100(96 in the field) in the FedEx Cup standings move on to TPC Boston for the second leg of the Playoffs. We had no course history to go off last week and while the tournament name and sponsor has changed this week, the location has not. TPC Boston has been the host of this event since 2003 so we can get back to weighing the course...

The Northern Trust Never know what can happen in the #FedExCup Playoffs.@TheNTGolf kicks off the path to a championship. pic.twitter.com/t44UVXUy4V — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) August 22, 2017 Playoffs? That's right, the Major Championship season is over but things are just starting to heat up as the FedEx Cup Playoffs get underway this Thursday. The top 125 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings have qualified for The Northern Trust but we have just 120 in the field this week. The five golfers sitting out the first leg of the Playoffs are Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott, Brandt Snedeker(injury), Scott Piercy, and Dominic Bozzeli. While there have been some terrific storylines all season(first-time winners, rookie triumphs, Garcia's first major, etc..), one of my favorite came last week at the Wyndham Championship where Martin Flores stepped up to the tee on the Par 3 16th hole on the outside of the playoff bubble with just three holes to go. That was until this happened... This hole-in-one may just get Martin Flores into the FedEx Cup playoffs. pic.twitter.com/E9s88nbBbu — GOLFonCBS (@GOLFonCBS) August 20, 2017 He went on to Par the 17th hole and Birdie the 18th hole and enters the Playoffs as the 118th seed. What a story! For the first time, the Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury, New York will host a PGA Tour event. The course is a Par 70 that stretches out to 7,350 Yards and has Poa Annua grass on the green surfaces. While the course is new to hosting not just a PGA Tour event but the opening Playoff event, it will be setup and ready for the task as the club hired one of the best. Craig Currier was brought on back in 2010 and is not a stranger to big events as he was the superintendent at Bethpage and prepared the Black course for both...

Wyndham Championship No more Majors. No problem. The FedEx Cup Playoffs are now just a week away where one golfer will come out on top with the hardware and a cool 10 million dollars. Before the Playoffs begin we have one more tournament, the Wyndham Championship, where golfers outside the Top 125 will have one more shot to squeeze their way into the field for The Northern Trust next week. On the cheatsheet this week I added each golfers FedEx Cup Rank to make it easier to see where everyone fits in the grand scheme of things. I don't think it is wise to solely concentrate on the narrative of playing guys around the bubble but think it will definitely help make some key decisions between certain players who are playing for their season. Here is a peek at the five players below and above the cut line going into the week: Above - Blair(120), Hearn(121), Werenski(122), Power(123), Summerhays(124), Ogilvy(125) Below - Tringale(126), Saunders(127), Palmer(128), Hurley(129), Poston(130) The Wyndham Championship dates back to 1970 and started with Sedgefield CC being the host course up until 1977 when it shifted to Forest Oaks CC just down the road. The tournament remained at Forest Oaks until 2008 when it shifted back to Sedgefield. Another note about Sedgefield itself is that they made the switch from Bentgrass to Champion Bermuda on the greens back in 2012. This matches up perfectly for the past five years course history model that I use on my cheatsheet. The Donald Ross design challenges players off the tee on almost every hole with strategically placed bunkers, hazards, trees, and thick rough. This will force players to use less than driver on a lot of the Par 4's to ensure ball placement to have a shot at the green. I am not totally discounting distance as last year only one player inside the Top...

PGA Championship The final opportunity to capture a major in 2017 has arrived as the PGA Championship starts this Thursday. The tournament rotates courses each year and for the first time will be hosted by the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. While Quail Hollow has not hosted a major, it has hosted the Wells Fargo Championship annually since 2003(was Wachovia Champ from 2002-2008) and I have added the past five years results to the cheatsheet. I will be weighing that course history a little lower than usual as the team at Quail Hollow made some big changes to the course following the 2016 wells Fargo Championship. I wrote about some of the changes in my Early Thoughts Article over on my blog. The big takeaway is that the course is now playing longer and will now be a Par 71(previously Par 72). The other major player this week will be the rain as there is about a 50% chance or great of thunderstorms from Friday through Sunday. Stay tuned to my weather updates which I have now added to my cheatsheet. From a fantasy perspective, I won't be putting a ton of emphasis on the Milli Maker as I don't particularly like the payout structure, especially if you are not max entering like many will be doing this week. I did win a couple satellite tickets and with those, will be attempting to go a bit contrarian to form a unique lineup. To do this I will be using a combination of tools starting with the FanShare Sports Most Tagged List that I go over at the bottom of this article. I will also be using the ownership projections from Fantasy National Golf Club. The emphasis this week will be most definitely be hitting the fairways here at Quail Hollow and with the added length and high chances of wet...

RBC Canadian Open With the OPEN Championship behind us, the PGA Tour moves onto Canadian Soil for the RBC Canadian Open from Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario. Before jumping into my picks and breakdown, be sure to jump over to my blog and check out my Early Thoughts article. Glen Abbey Golf Club is a standard Par 72 setup with four Par 3's, four Par 5's and 11 Par 4 holes. It has narrow fairways and some challenging doglegs that will force players to have to get the ball in the right position to have a shot at the green. The first cut of rough is very manageable so we will likely see guys ripping it as far as they can to get wedges into their hands to attempt to hit the smallish greens. I was originally going to weight Strokes Gained Off the Tee with emphasis on Driving Accuracy but will now be looking more in the direction of Good Drive % to go with SG: OTT. With the greens being smaller than average, I will also be weighing Strokes Gained Around the Green and Scrambling. The last two stats that I will be leaning heavily on this week are Par 5 Scoring and Birdie or Better %. All four Par 5 holes should be reachable in two by the entire field as they all range between 524 and 558 yards on the scorecard. At least 50% of a players score will come from these holes. Don't believe me? Head over to FantasyNational.com and search RBC Canadian Open at the top and then sort by Par 5 for the years the tournament was held here. In 2016, 18 of the 22 players finishing Top 20 gained strokes on Par 5's and in 2015, 20 of the 21 players inside the Top 20 gained strokes on the Par 5's. ...

The Open Championship Good morning from Royal Birkdale, it is officially Open week! #TheOpen pic.twitter.com/Bcb76wpDMQ — The Open (@TheOpen) July 16, 2017 That's right folks. The season's third Major Championship has arrived and will return to the historic Royal Birkdale Golf Club for the tenth time in its history. The Birkdale Golf Club itself dates back to 1889 when it was formed. Royal Birkdale Golf Club hosted its first OPEN in 1954 with the winner, Peter Thomson, becoming a legend in these parts. He picked five OPEN titles in all, two of which came here. The first and the last. The most recent winner of the OPEN here at Royal Birkdale is Padraig Harrington who hoisted the Claret Jug back in 2008 with a winning score of +3. That is only the second time since 1999 the winning score has come in above par. The wind was the major factor in 2008 as it howled around 20-25 mph all week with some huge gusts. The course is a links setup and the wind itself can affect scoring by multiple shots and is the number one defense. The second defense system is something we don't often see on links courses with narrow flat fairways. The extremely penal rough is also present which is going to put a huge amount of weight not only on Strokes Gained Off the Tee but with emphasis on Driving Accuracy. There are some risk/reward holes(Hole # 5 comes to mind) where longer hitters can cut some of the doglegs but the penalty is huge for missing so we can expect a ton of "placement" drives this week. Proof of this is the news that Phil Mickelson will not be using a driver this week, rather turning to his trusty 3-wood that he used to win the 2013 OPEN at Muirfield. He has instead opted...
