WGC Bridgestone Invitational Welcome back golf fans. It was World #1, Dustin Johnson, bouncing back in a big way after missing the cut at the OPEN as he went into Glen Abbey and took down the RBC Canadian Open with a winning score -23, three strokes ahead of Byeong Hun An and Whee Kim. It extended his lead in the FedEx Cup standings by over 500 points over Justin Thomas as the Tour heads into the final three events before the Playoffs. This week the best players in the World will meet at Firestone Country Club for its final run as a WGC venue for the Bridgestone Invitational. It is an absolutely loaded field as every player in the Top 50 World Golf Rankings is teeing it up at Firestone this week including Tiger Woods who has won here eight times and won a WGC event 18 times. The tournament also has just a 73-man field which means there will be no cut this week and all players will get a full four rounds of golf. The course is a monstrous 7,400 yards long, especially considering it is only a Par 70. The added distance on the Par 5, 16th hole(667 yards) doesn't aid the bombers as it will still be a three-shot hole for almost everyone in the field. We have seen both bombers and shorter, course management players do well here over the years and a lot of that has to do with the tree-lined fairways which are very narrow putting a ton of emphasis on not just hitting them but also in the right areas. The greens will be firm and fast and while they are bigger than average, they have run offs around the green which makes them play smaller and puts emphasis on Proximity when looking at Strokes Gained: Approach. The other thing to...

Last week was another perfect example of how the weather can change on a dime on a links course, especially in Scotland. We saw a baked out and super fast opening round, a rainy and wet second round, a low-scoring third round, and a very windy final round. After the first two days, we saw three(Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas) of the World's Top 5 golfers miss the cut along with some other notables in Brandon Grace(#35), Sergio Garcia(#19), Hideki Matsuyama(#16), and Bubba Watson(#13) to name a few. One of the hottest players on the planet, Francesco Molinari, came out on top grabbing his first career Major Championship with an incredible finish posting a 65, 69 on the weekend to win by two strokes. This week the PGA Tour heads to Canada and the Glen Abbey Golf Club for the 109th RBC Canadian Open. It will be the 30th time Glen Abbey has hosted the National Open and if you are looking at more recent course history be sure to look at only 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2008, and 2009 as the course has rotated in those other years. It is a Par 72 setup that stretches just over 7,200 yards which is on the shorter end of things for a Par 72 but has plenty of defenses. The Jack Nicklaus design has narrow, tree-lined fairways with 80+ bunkers scattered around the course with water coming into play on just less than half the holes. Wind and rain, as always, will play large as well and looking at the winning scores this is clear. The course played soft last year and Vegas won with a -21 winning score while the year before it was more firm and fast and he won with a score of -12. The early forecast is showing...

The time has come for the third Major Championship of the season and this time coming to you from Carnoustie Golf Links, the host of the 147th OPEN Championship. Carnoustie has been a venue for the OPEN since 1931 and this marks the eighth time it has been hosted here with Padraig Harrington the most recent winner here back in 2007. The course is often referred to as "Carnastie" and for good reason, as it is widely considered the toughest test of all OPEN venues. Most of you might remember the 1999 event when Jean Van De Velde went into the final hole three clear of second place and needing only a double-bogey to hoist the Claret Jug. Well, he ended up making a triple forcing a three-way playoff that saw Paul Lawrie hoist the hardware with a winning score of +6. From reports early in the week as players get in practice rounds at Carnoustie, it appears we are going to see a baked-out course, at least on the fairways. Check out some of these tweets. Just hit one 427 on 18 @TheOpen .. Guys would be hitting it in the burn in front of green 450+.. Carnoustie is baked out but greens are pure.. Never seen an Open this firm.. Will be an awesome week if it stays like this.. pic.twitter.com/AUXyPGF4iu — Brandt Snedeker (@BrandtSnedeker) July 14, 2018 This is @DJohnsonPGA on the 513 yard par five 14th at Carnoustie. He hit driver-wedge to the green. Yesterday he hit a drive into the burn on 18 which is 473 yds from the tee. The course is brown, baked out and fast for @TheOpen. pic.twitter.com/O4PfmKg88l — Todd Lewis (@ToddLewisGC) July 15, 2018 Whoa! Driver, wedge into a Par 5 is pretty crazy. On this long course, the conditions definitely...

John Deere Classic Welcome back golf fans. This week the PGA Tour travels to Silvis, Illinois and the TPC Deere Run for the 2018 John Deere Classic. Things are heating up as the season's third major championship is just one week away. Other than the cash and the trophy, up for grabs this week is the final spot for the OPEN at Carnoustie which will go to the highest finisher not already qualified. TPC Deere Run is a Par 71 setup that stretches over 7,200 yards and is pretty spread out when looking at the 11 Par 4's with three coming in under 400 yards, four between 400 and 450 yards, three more between 450 and 500 yards and one just over 500 yards. The Par 5's will be the biggest scoring holes this week as the three of them are all under 600 yards and play as three of the four easiest holes on the course. Hole #2 really stands out as there have been 14 or more Eagles made there in each of the last five years. This puts emphasis on not only Par5 Scoring but also on Par 5 Birdie or Better %. The fairways here at TPC Deere Run are some of the easiest to hit on Tour(71% average via Future of Fantasy Golfanac) which will turn the event into a wedge and birdie fest and the average winning score of -20 backs that up. With the OPEN coming up next week, the field is one of the weakest we have seen all season with none of the Top 10, one of the Top 20, and just four of the World's Top 50 golfers teeing it up. Let's now take a look at the course trends, previous winners, top stats and of course the picks. The Course TPC Deere Run - Silvis, IL Par 71...

A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Welcome back golf fans. This week the PGA Tour travels to West Virginia for the newly named A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier. It's another weak field event as none of the Top 10 and only eight of the World's Top 50 golfers are teeing up this week at the Old White TPC. The course as you may or may not remember was under water two years ago as a result of flooding which ended up canceling the event. The crew worked very hard after the water washed away and they were able to rebuild all the greens and get the course running for last years event where Xander Schauffele hoisted the hardware with a winning score of -14. The Par 70 setup plays just under 7,300 yards but with elevation close to 2,000 feet, it plays much shorter and can turn into a birdie fest as six of the Par 4's fall between 400 and 450 yards. The two Par 5's also play as the easiest holes on the course so gaining birdie or better on those is crucial to climb up the leaderboard. From a fantasy perspective, I am going pretty simple with my main model this week looking at Strokes Gained: Approach, Par 4 & 5 Scoring, and Birdie or Better %. Let's jump in and take a look at some of the top players when looking at course history, current form, and the stats model.
