Rocket Mortgage Classic This week the PGA Tour will visit Detroit, Michigan for the first time for a brand new event, the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The host will be the Detroit Golf Club which was founded in 1899 and started out as a six-hole course that has evolved over 100 years into a 36-hole club including the Donald Ross-designed North and South courses. This is where we will be concentrating our time this week as the team at Detroit Golf Club has meshed the two together to feature a new 18-hole layout that will be played by the Tour players this week. Like most Donald Ross course's, it is unique as he used the land available to him to create the course rather than moving dirt to fit his design. Looking at some Google Earth images and watching some videos on the course here is my breakdown. It is a tree-lined course with some very tight driving holes and bunkers in key landing zones off the tee. That combined with rough that is projected to be around 3.5" long(higher than Tour average) puts emphasis on the Off the Tee game, especially accuracy. My guess would be that the field will average about 55-60% fairways hit for the week. With four of the 10 Par 4's coming under 400 yards, we will also likely see some "Less than Driver" strategies off the tee as well to ensure position for the second shot. The next challenge is the approach shot which, at times, will come from some uneven lies with the undulation throughout the course. The greens also present a challenge as they are slightly smaller than Tour average and also very undulated and expected to be around 12-12.5 on the stimpmeter. When breaking down Strokes Gained: Approach I will be looking closely at Proximity and with the projected lower fairways hit #, I will...

Travelers Championship This week the PGA Tour heads to Cromwell, Connecticut for the 2019 Travelers Championship. Despite the grueling summer schedule and the U.S. Open just wrapping up, the field is loaded with five of the Top 10(Koepka, Molinari, Thomas, Cantlay, DeChambeau) and 22 of the Top 50 players in the world teeing it up this week. Also of note when looking at the field are the sponsor exemptions starting with Victor Hovland making his pro debut this week after a T12 at the U.S. Open. Matthew Wolff, who was ranked #2 in the World Amateur rankings behind Hovland will also be making his pro debut this week. Collin Morikawa and Justin Suh also got exemptions, both of which turned pro earlier in the summer after outstanding college careers. TPC River Highlands is a Pete Dye-designed Par 70 and at just 6,841 yards it is one of the shortest courses on Tour. While that immediately steers me to driving accuracy and fairways gained when starting my model, we see that hasn't been the case here. Two bombers in Bubba and J.B. Holmes finished 1st/2nd here last year and both lost over three strokes to the field in fairways gained. In 2017, three of the Top 4 on the leaderboard lost strokes gaining fairways and in 2016 three of the Top 5 lost strokes in that area. While it can give you an advantage hitting the fairway, it is not crucial this week but one thing all of those players mentioned above had in common are that they gained strokes when looking at Good Drives Gained. So from that, I will be weighing Strokes Gained: Ball Striking as a whole this week. The other key stat for me will be Par 4 Scoring as there are 12 on this course and if you are using Fantast National, make sure to key in on the 400-450...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – 119th U.S. Open

Grab your copy today and edge out the competition. 119th U.S. Open After a Rory McIlroy thumping at the RBC Canadian Open, the Tour heads to the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links for the 119th U.S. Open. It is the sixth time that Pebble Beach has hosted the United States Open and first since 2010 when Graeme McDowell hoisted the trophy with a winning score of Even Par. The field is led by back to back U.S. Open Champion and #1 player in the World, Brooks Koepka and he is accompanied by each of the other Top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings. With the rotation in the course played each year, I have added the last five years results but have a very low weight(5%) on that. Just enough to see who consistently performs well on these very tough US Open setups. I have also added the results of the 2010 U.S. Open, the last time it was played here at Pebble Beach. There really isn't any merit in looking at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am results as it has a three-course rotation using Pebble once pre-cut for each player and then again on the final round. What you can do is check out the Fantasy National tools and use the filter to get performance solely on Pebble Beach Golf Links. I will be adding this to my custom model this week as well. While "looking" at the Pebble Beach course history is fine, modeling around it just doesn't work. Golfers are going to see a slightly different course this week, specifically off the tee as the fairways have been narrowed with length added to many holes with some new tee boxes added. Tiger Woods also talked about the course "playing" very long when he practiced here at the end May. One of the biggest differences is the conversion of the second hole from a Par 5 to one of...

RBC Canadian Open "Oh Canada, our home and native land!" That's right folks! Some people call the PLAYERS the fifth major but as a Canadian, this is my fifth major and one of my favorite events of the year. The history goes way back as the first Canadian Open was held in 1904 and is the third longest running annual tournament on the PGA Tour(Open Championship, U.S. Open are 1st/2nd longest running). This year is a bit different for a couple of reasons starting with the date change to early June. It is now a week before the U.S. Open which will and has drawn a stronger field than when it was sandwiched between the Open Championship and either the WGC Bridgestone or PGA championship. Speaking of that field, while it is not strong overall, it is absolutely loaded at the top with four of the Top 5(Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas) players in the world teeing it up North of the border. The field also includes 20 Canadians looking to win their own National event for the first time since Pat Fletcher did it way back in 1954. Leading the Canadian contingent are Adam Hadwin(#79) and Corey Conners(#83) who the only two inside the Top 100 at the moment and they are currently 23rd and 55th in the FedEx Cup standings this season. Hamilton Golf & Country Club is a shorter Par 70 coming in just under 7,000 yards. It has tree-lined fairways that are very narrow and generated under 60% driving accuracy back in 2012. This combined with some thick, punitive rough, and there will be a ton of emphasis on hitting the fairways to have a shot at hitting these smaller than average greens. This will, in turn, make it tougher to hit the greens overall which will bring scrambling into play as well. Let's now take...
Daily Fantasy PGA Picks and Betting Guide for DraftKings & FanDuel – the Memorial

Grab your copy today and edge out the competition. the Memorial We are right in the middle of a busy stretch of golf and this week the PGA Tour will stop in at Jack's Place(Muirfield Village) for the Memorial Tournament. This is in an invitation-only event with a smaller 120-player field and a cut of Top 70 & ties after round two. With one of the biggest purses outside of the Majors, the Memorial annually draws one a very strong field. This year is no different as seven of the Top 10(Rose, McIlroy, Woods, JT, Bryson, Xander, Fowler) and 32 of the World's Top 50 golfers will be teeing it up. The course is a Par 72 that falls just shy of 7,400 yards and has bunkers(73), water(13 hazards) and tree-lined fairways for defense. While the fairways are wider than average and generate an average driving accuracy around 70% golfers should not get too comfortable with the driver as the rough is very penal here. There is a ton of emphasis on hitting those fairways so I will be looking at the Fairways Gained trend using the FNGC tools. After hitting the fairway comes the most important stat this week, the approach shot. This is where players have separated themselves from the field looking back at previous leaderboards and stats rankings. If you want to break it down further, it is best to concentrate on the approach shots from 150-175 and 175-200 yards(see chart below). Charles Schwab Challenge It was a dominating performance from Brooks Koepka at Bethpage where he won back to back PGA Championships and his fourth major in his last eight attempts(US Open-2, PGA Champ-2). We now shift our focus on the U.S. Open which takes place in a month at the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links. Before we get there, we have a three-event run at some tremendous courses so let's get started. This week the PGA Tour heads to the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge. You may not recognize the name as it has had many before it including the Fort WorthInvitational, Dean & Deluca Invitational, and the Crowne Plaza Invitational. One thing that hasn't changed is the course as Colonial Country Club has hosted this event since 1946. Despite the event coming a week after the new PGA Championship date in May, the field is strong headlined by five of the Top 10(Rose, Molinari, DeChambeau, Schauffele, Fowler) and 18 of the Top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings. From a stats standpoint, we completely switch directions from the bombers mentality at Bethpage as accuracy and precision off the tee is key here at Colonial. The most important stat to focus on the is week is Strokes Gained: Approach as it has proven to be the area where players separate themselves from the field year after year(pic below courtesy of FantasyNational.com). When breaking down those approach stats I will be looking at Proximity from 150-175 yards as that is where the highest number of approaches come from at Colonial. On average, 60% of all birdies at this event come from the 12 par 4 holes and no more than five of these holes have played under par for the week. This combined with the approach shots mentioned above is where players will separate so I...
